Chapter 3
That night, the two of them toiled until 4:30 a.m., spending the night in the rest room next to the office. After six or seven hours of intense brainpower, they had only managed to make a rough outline of the project. While progress might seem slow, it was already a significant achievement.
Su Qiong took out her black silk pajamas from the lounge closet, changed into slippers, removed her jewelry, and went into the bathroom to shower. Once inside, Su Qiong let out a low sigh, her straight back hunched, and she slouched under the shower, throwing her clothes carelessly onto the dry floor, her mind still mulling over the progress of the discussion.
After quickly taking a quick shower, she picked up the clothes scattered on the floor and folded them under her arms. She straightened her back, opened the bathroom door, and put the clothes into her own dirty clothes basket.
Mu Yunting stood up, tore his eyes away from the documents, and walked towards the closet.
This wasn't the latest night they had ever stayed up.
Someone asked, "Have you ever seen a city at five in the morning?" Su Qiong nodded with tears in her eyes, more than once.
Three years ago, when the company was facing a funding crisis, she and Mu Yunting went to bed at five in the morning for almost two consecutive months, sometimes even staying up all night. Several floors of the company were lit up, like shining stars.
Therefore, the lounge had an original king-size bed and a folding single bed. Mu Yunting had wanted to dismantle the luxurious king-size bed and replace it with two single beds, but Su Qiong refused. "Please, wouldn't this make it more convenient to work overtime?" Su Qiong thought to herself. "I'd rather go home and sleep."
Mu Yunting took a long time to shower. Su Qiong sat on her single bed and waited for him to come out. While showering, she thought of a solution to the problem that had troubled them for two hours.
The single bed was against the wall, perfect for Su Qiong to sit against. The muscle relaxation brought by the hot bath helped her relax.
How do I tell my boss that I'm quitting?
Su Qiong thought about it and fell asleep unknowingly.
Mu Yunting opened the bathroom door under the steam and noticed Su Qiong sitting with her head down against the single bed. He walked in slowly, wiping her half-dried black hair. The woman in front of him didn't react at all. He guessed that Su Qiong fell asleep while sitting.
Her long black hair was tied into a low ponytail, the hair on her head was neat and smooth, and her shoulders were straight and her waist was slightly bent.
Mu Yunting looked at Su Qiong sleeping in front of him and sighed. He could hardly remember what Su Qiong looked like when she first became his assistant. It seemed that she had always been so capable and upright.
To the surprise of most of the younger generations in the company, Su Qiong's undergraduate major had nothing to do with her current job, and she did not gradually become the general manager and then Mu Yunting's personal assistant.
At the time, Mu Yunting had just taken over the Mu Group, and there were many hidden problems within the group. Mu Yunting was undergoing a comprehensive overhaul and was overwhelmed by the challenges, both large and small. So, he wanted to hire a personal assistant. He required a high level of education, regardless of major, but also a willingness to work hard and learn. He vaguely remembered that the interview process was long, and there were many other more capable candidates. He ultimately chose Su Qiong. His intuition told him that she was the best fit.
At that time, Su Qiong was wearing a well-fitting suit, with a firm gaze and a graceful demeanor. He said confidently, "I believe I can grow with the company."
Mu Yunting came back to his senses and gently woke Su Qiong up, "Lie down and sleep."
Su Qiong was a light sleeper, and she opened her eyes after Mu Yunting called her name twice. She was dazed for a moment, then remembered the solution she had thought of. Just as she was about to speak, she saw Mu Yunting make a gesture.
"Let's talk about it tomorrow. We won't need to sleep if we continue discussing it. The work is not that critical yet."
Su Qiong nodded, swallowed the words in her mouth, stood up, and said briskly, "Good night, boss."
Mu Yunting nodded and turned to go to the big bed on the other side.
Su Qiong huddled in her folding bed, not daring to sleep in the unruly position she did at home. She lay straight and square. She wasn't used to that sleeping position. She'd just taken a short nap, but now she wasn't sleepy. She mentally counted her assets again.
Su Qiong had to admit that she was a bit money-grubber and stingy, and always liked to calculate how much money she had.
Three cards: one for a company bonus of 3 million, one for a salary of 6 million, and one for a living allowance of 1 million; two cars: a black Mercedes and a white BMW; and an apartment, a 200-square-meter one-story apartment in a residential complex...
Su Qiong calculated her expenses. Cars were expensive to maintain, so she might as well sell her Mercedes if she quit. She didn't really care for cars anyway. This one was a gift from her boss to ferry him around occasionally, just to keep things simple. She fantasized about living off her savings and living a life of idleness, and a sense of drowsiness crept in.
