Chapter 30
Su Qiong answered the phone: "What's wrong?" She leaned against the railing on the balcony, breathing slowly, her eyes filled with the twinkling stars of the city's tall buildings.
Tang Yixi's voice came through the phone unclearly: "Woo woo woo woo, I'm impotent."
Su Qiong was startled and quickly said, "What's the matter? How do you feel now?" Su Qiong only knew that Tang Yixi had been sent to provide support in an area with a severe epidemic not long ago. She was too busy and rarely chatted with Su Qiong.
After briefly explaining that she had gone to support the all-night work, Tang Yixi's voice was a little hoarse, "Is everything okay now? I have a fever and I'm waiting for the results of the lung X-ray." She fainted at her post and found out she was positive when she woke up. After a while, she didn't know how to tell her parents, so she called Su Qiong first.
Su Qiong was about to speak when she heard a rapid cough from the other side. Her brows unconsciously knitted together: "How long will it take to heal?"
"It's hard to say... We haven't figured out the direction of the virus mutation here yet."
Before hanging up the phone, Tang Yixi sobbed and spoke out her bank password, saying that if anything happened to her, she must make Su Qiong burn a man's stand for her.
Su Qiong blocked her from typing the passwords to the next bunch of social media accounts. "Delete your browsing history yourself! Get well soon. Get more rest and eat more fruit."
After hanging up the phone, Su Qiong fell silent. Although she and Mu Yunting were under lockdown, their residential complex was upscale, with fresh and plentiful vegetables and food every day. Aside from the travel restrictions, their lives were quite comfortable. Her good friend's death had made her feel the dire situation elsewhere.
After standing on the balcony for a while, Su Qiong threw the crushed leaves in her palm into the trash can, and walked to the projection room with a heavy heart.
Mu Yunting had just finished reading the strategy guide and was resting his eyes. He heard the door open, opened his eyes, and saw Su Qiong's expression was not good. He immediately forgot the game operation he had just planned and asked, "What's wrong?"
Su Qiong said with a stunned expression: "My friend is a doctor. He went to support the areas with severe epidemic and died."
The room was quiet for a while. Mu Yunting looked at Su Qiong's face in the dim light and said softly, "It will be fine." Su Qiong didn't seem to be interested in playing games anymore. He looked at his watch carefully and said, "It's almost ten o'clock now. Let's pack up and go to bed."
Su Qiong responded, disconnecting the Bluetooth controller. She squatted and swept the snack bags into the trash can, then stood up, took the other bag from Mu Yunting, and headed for the stairwell. The two of them had cleaned up many times before, and they quickly cleaned the screening room again. Mu Yunting decided it was too late, so he left the carpet on the balcony, planning to wash it tomorrow morning.
Su Qiong passed by the balcony and wanted to wash the blanket, but Mu Yunting forced her to lie on her side.
"Go back and rest, don't worry too much." Mu Yunting smiled at her and gently put a cup of warm milk in her hand.
The aroma of milk filled her nose, and warmth spread across her hands. Su Qiong returned to her room with the milk and silently took a sip. It was truly warm.
The next day, Su Qiong called Tang Yixi, but no one answered. Worried, she just did something to pass the time.
On the balcony, Su Qiong inserted the scissors into the stem of the shortest leaf in the middle of the vigorously growing mung bean sprouts, cut it neatly, and picked up the broken part with her left hand and threw it into the trash can.
While she was in a daze, Mu Yun passed by the balcony.
Mu Yunting saw Su Qiong in the living room and stopped walking towards the study. He turned and walked towards the balcony. Mu Yunting asked, "Are you still worried? How is your friend?"
Su Qiong turned around and saw Mu Yunting standing beside her. The man in front of her was wearing loose clothes and holding a half-full water cup in his hand, obviously coming out to get some water.
Su Qiong said: "Yes, it's a bit white lung, there may be sequelae..."
Seeing Mu Yunting listening intently, Su Qiong couldn't help but continue, "The situation in Wuhan is really serious. There aren't enough people or supplies. It's really difficult." Su Qiong took out his phone from his pocket and clicked on the picture: "Look, this is the funding table. They don't even have enough alcohol masks right now. I'm really worried..."
After talking for a while, Su Qiong stopped talking. Realizing that Mu Yunting still had to work, she apologized, "Well, that's about it. Go ahead and do your work. I won't disturb you."
Mu Yunting nodded and said, "I'll go to work first." Before leaving, he turned back, as if he wanted to say something.
Su Qiong looked at him: "Hmm?"
Mu Yunting said: "Talking to you is not a disturbance." Then he took the cup of water and left.
