Chapter 34
Mu Yunting washed the dishes after dinner.
As he was draining the water, Su Qiong came out after changing. She'd just compared the pants Mu Yunting had given her in the room; the waistband was far too loose. She was afraid they'd fall off, but since her pants weren't as uncomfortable, she decided to just wear the slightly damp ones. Su Qiong had a small frame, and Mu Yunting's T-shirt was too long for her, practically reaching the height of her gym shorts.
Mu Yunting turned his head and the most eye-catching thing was the two slender white legs. Before he looked away, he found that he had an impression of this dress.
There are four big words on the front of the clothes: Ah yes, yes, yes.
Su Qiong noticed Mu Yunting looking at the big words on her chest. She pinched the hem of her clothes and looked down. She couldn't help but say, "Your clothes are really special."
When Mu Yunting heard Su Qiong's teasing, he explained with a smile: "This dress was bought by my mother. She said that I always gave her a perfunctory answer when she urged me to get married, so she bought this dress to complain about me." Mu Yunting laughed a lot during the time he was at home, and Su Qiong also smiled often.
Su Qiong heard this and imagined Mu Yunting saying "Yeah, right, right" when his mother urged him to get married, and she couldn't help laughing. She didn't expect the boss would be urged to get married. But speaking of which, the boss seems to be approaching 30 too?
When Su Qiong saw the bowl in Mu Yunting's hand, her thoughts immediately went to washing the dishes: "Didn't you say I would wash the dishes? Sorry to bother you again." She stood there and waved her hands, rubbing her slippers on the floor, thinking about what to do, and finally ran to the cupboard to get coffee beans to make coffee.
Mu Yunting replied, "It's not a big deal, just something I can do." Su Qiong had her back to him, and only now did he dare to follow her with his eyes. Staring directly at Su Qiong's legs had been impolite and rather rude. He examined her gently, then suddenly remembered a term he'd seen before—"boyfriend shirt"—before dismissing it. Feeling a bit rude, Mu Yunting cleared his mind and looked away.
Su Qiong was wearing a T-shirt and thinking about all sorts of things.
Mu Yunting took off his apron, carefully wiped the water off his hands with a towel, went to the living room, turned on the TV, and tuned in to the morning news. He sat upright on the sofa, his hands resting on his thighs, as if he was doing something important.
The aroma of coffee filled the air. Su Qiong placed her full cup on the coffee table in the living room and sat down not far from Mu Yunting. Her posture was much more casual, her back leaning against the sofa, a pillow hugged to her chest. Initially, influenced by Mu Yunting, she sat upright, but as time went on, she gradually became less relaxed. Her posture gradually relaxed, the only difference from her home position being that she didn't cross her legs.
The news just happened to show the number of new cases in various places. Usually, Mu Yunting watched the news, while Su Qiong played on her phone in the living room with the news as background music. But because of Tang Yixi, she paid special attention to the news about the epidemic and read it very carefully.
After watching for a while, Mu Yunting's cell phone started vibrating on the coffee table.
The screen lights up: Chen Baichuan
"I'll take a call." Mu Yunting said as he picked up the phone, nodded at Su Qiong, and walked towards the study.
"Mu, Yun, Ting! You asked your mother to ask my mother to urge me to get married?" Chen Baichuan shouted at the top of his voice as soon as he answered the phone.
Mu Yunting moved the phone slightly away, pressed the volume down button a few times with his thumb, and then put the phone back to his ear. "Talk nicely, what do you want me to do?"
Chen Baichuan spoke incoherently before straightening his words: "A few days ago, for some reason, my mom was frantically trying to arrange a blind date for me. After I kept nagging her, she finally relented, saying Aunt Liu's son was already looking for a partner and living together. She said, 'How come you're a year older than Mu Yunting and still don't have a partner?' So she arranged a blind date for me!" He repeatedly declined, citing the severity of the pandemic as inappropriate for offline gatherings, but Luo's mother simply arranged an online video blind date for him. Chen Baichuan didn't dare disobey his mother, and these past few days, he'd been tormented by online meetings and blind dates, leaving his butt ache.
Chen Baichuan: "I said, weren't you sealed off with your colleague? Why did Aunt Liu say you were living with your partner?"
After listening to Chen Baichuan's long speech, Mu Yunting said slowly, "Who told you to spread ambiguous words to your mother in order to divert the attention of those urging you to get married? Aunt Luo simply misunderstood and exaggerated things with my mother."
"My mom called me and I was shocked. When did he get a girlfriend?"
"She felt like you played her a fool, and she's so angry that she probably lied and said I'm in a relationship, and asked Aunt Luo to urge you to get married."
Chen Baichuan: “…”
There was silence on the phone for a moment, and then Chen Baichuan wailed, "I was wrong. I shouldn't have spread gossip to divert attention. Hurry up and call my mom to clarify."
Mu Yunting refused: "Then I would have slapped my mother in the face. Good luck to you."
Before Chen Baichuan started to beg, Mu Yunting spoke again: "But..."
"But what?"
Mu Yunting suddenly remembered that the "Fate" invitation campaign seemed to still be going on. He suddenly recalled Su Qiong's regretful and heartbroken expression when he gave him the invitation code that night because he didn't get the gift that followed. He also thought about the deadline. He slowly said, "Download a game called "Fate Game."
"If you promise to reach level 35 or above within a month, I'll call Aunt Luo right now."
Chen Baichuan didn't know what game this was, but he immediately agreed: "Okay, play now!" and then hung up the phone.
Mu Yunting first clicked on Su Qiong's chat history, scrolled up, saw Su Qiong's invitation code, long-pressed it to copy it, and then clicked on Chen Baichuan's chat box.
Mu Yunting: [KLJRJIANLAJICHIDYX]
Mu Yunting: [Don’t forget to fill in the invitation code, otherwise it won’t count.]
Chen Baichuan: […Received]
After exiting the chat history, Mu Yunting opened the contact and pondered how to resolve the issue. He was already 29, and Chen Baichuan was already 30, yet they were both single. It was no wonder their mothers were anxious. Mu Yunting recalled Liu Yu's concern for him earlier.
"Are you dating Chen Baichuan? Don't worry, Mom and Dad don't disapprove..."
