Chapter 40
"Maybe around the 20th?" Su Qiong thought for a moment. Because of her tiring work schedule and her occasional irregular meals, her menstrual period wasn't very regular.
What day is today? Mu Yunting clicked on the status bar on his phone—June 7th.
"How about we drink Erguotou the day after tomorrow? I'll take care of some work these days and free up the afternoon and evening." Mu Yunting said.
Su Qiong nodded briskly: "Okay." She naturally had no objection, after all, she was free all day.
After chatting for a few minutes, Mu Yunting said goodbye and returned to his study. "I'm going to work."
The ordinary time flies by, and it is almost time for drinking the day after tomorrow.
After the meeting, Mu Yunting raised his hand to touch the Bluetooth headset, ready to hang up the voice: "Okay, if there are no other tasks today, let's go home. Thank you all for your hard work." He deliberately moved some tasks a few days ago, so he could get off work a few hours earlier today.
Seeing no one to report, Mu Yunting hung up the phone and cut off the live broadcast of the meeting. He raised his hand to loosen his tie, unscrewed the top button of his suit and shirt, leaned back in his office chair, and turned slightly on the wheels.
Mu Yunting was in a daze, his eyes falling on the hands of the clock on the wall.
Wait a little longer and you can go drink.
Mu Yunting's chair swayed slightly, his mind clearing. It seemed he had never had a drink with Su Qiong before... He meant, non-office drinking.
No, there are still some...
Su Qiong dragged a small glass table to the balcony, picked up a bottle of warmed Erguotou, placed two teacups on the table, and finally dragged out two chairs. She stood in front of the table with her arms crossed, admiring her outfit.
It was she who bought this glass table with Mu Yunting... It was right after they bought this apartment. Mu Yunting didn't explain why he bought this small table, but simply stood in the furniture store, frowning and choosing for a long time. Su Qiong remembered that she had a very important meeting shortly after buying the furniture, and she couldn't let Mu Yunting worry about it any longer, so she simply pointed to a table at random. It was only after they moved in together that she realized that this table, seemingly out of place in Mu Yunting's life, was actually placed in the projection room.
All the balcony windows were closed, and air conditioning was blasting in to cool the temperature. Almost ready, Su Qiong set aside her nostalgic thoughts and sat in a chair, browsing her phone. The setting sun's rays cast a rainbow shadow across Su Qiong's skin. The cool air from the air-conditioned room evaporated from her skin, leaving her warm and squinting slightly.
"I'm here." Mu Yunting appeared at the balcony door with snacks.
Su Qiong quickly replied to Tang Yixi: "Don't worry, I won't get drunk or act crazy." Then she turned her phone upside down on the glass table.
Mu Yunting bent down to put the snacks.
Su Qiong sat up slightly, staring at the rolled-up cuffs of his white shirt, and said, "Thank you for your hard work." She thought to herself: There is another meeting today, and I am wearing a suit.
Before she could think carefully about any recent company meetings, Mu Yunting's voice brought her back to her senses.
"Have you been waiting for a long time?"
"No. Besides, I have nothing to do right now, so it doesn't matter if I wait a little longer." Su Qiong deleted her thoughts about the company, feeling that she couldn't do this. She had already resigned, so she might as well stop thinking about it. "They're all just playing with their phones, what's the difference?"
Mu Yunting sat down next to Su Qiong, casually rolling up his sleeves. He leaned over and turned the lid of his Erguotou bottle, applying a little pressure before gently placing it on the table and filling both of their cups.
The cup is a small wine glass, not enough for one sip when it is full.
"What a beautiful day today." Mu Yunting took his glass and took a sip. The warm, rich aroma of the wine blossomed on his taste buds. He looked out the window. Before him was a fiery red sunset and bold clouds. The city was as silent as ever.
Su Qiong responded and picked up the glass. After she put it down, she felt the taste brought by her taste buds and couldn't help but sigh in her heart - good wine.
"By the way, when do you think it will be unblocked?" Su Qiong asked.
The cup made a crisp clinking sound when it was gently placed on the glass table. Mu Yunting tore open a pack of lemon-flavored Lay's. "It's hard to say... I guess it will be soon, at most a month." The number of infections has remained relatively stable recently, so it looks like it will be soon.
The potato chips were handed to Su Qiong. She was just raising her hand to pick a large, round potato chip when she heard Mu Yunting's teasing voice.
"Why, are you in a hurry to leave now that I've finished my snacks and Coke?"
Su Qiong was stunned, then chuckled, "How could that be?" She hadn't expected Mu Yunting to joke. She took a closer look at Mu Yunting today. Despite his suit, he didn't look tired and cautious, as if he had just finished work. Instead, he had a sense of relaxation that Su Qiong didn't understand.
Su Qiong grabbed a bag of dried fruits and vegetables and ripped it open with a click. She reached out and pinched out a dried potato, saying with emotion, "Isn't this just thinking about the epidemic ending soon so I can go out and do my own thing?"
"Your own business?" Mu Yunting leaned over and searched in the bag of dried fruits and vegetables, and finally fished out a piece of jackfruit.
"Yeah, I'm thinking of getting a tour guide license after the pandemic is over, and then becoming one." Su Qiong's eyes lit up, and she had a lot to say about this. "Oh, but I haven't decided where to get the license yet, so I plan to go out of Shanghai first."
"Didn't I say before that I would go to Tang Yixi's place in Shenzhen first..." Su Qiong shook the wine glass slightly, and the transparent wine swayed inside, cutting a beam of sunlight into pieces.
Mu Yunting's eyes were drawn to the fragmented light, and he didn't listen carefully to Su Qiong's subsequent words. The light and shadow in the small wine glass danced in his eyes, and Mu Yunting unconsciously fell into memories, memories that he had just recalled before drinking.
Memories are like wiping a dusty album; the more you wipe, the clearer they become. Mu Yunting suddenly remembered some trivial things that he hadn't thought of just now.
After Su Qiong finished speaking, she became somewhat aware of her own incessant chatter and gave Mu Yunting an apologetic smile. Her chin rested on her hand, holding a half-full glass of wine, and she turned to look at the fiery red sun outside the window.
Mu Yunting was stunned, and a soft voice came to his ears: "Look." He turned his head in the direction of Su Qiong's gaze, and what caught his eye was a clear yellow half of the sun and the clouds surrounding it that made it look black.
"Sunset in Shanghai."
The glass balcony is covered with warm colors everywhere.
This was the first time Mu Yunting looked at the sunset like this. He came to his senses and turned his head.
Su Qiong supported her chin, her hair hanging down beside her ears, her almond eyes full of leisure, the light left a silhouette on her face, making her look like a person in a dream.
