Chapter 43
Su Qiong was so indifferent that she didn't notice anything was wrong with Mu Yunting today. Since Mu Yunting had cooked the meal that morning, she decided to make him a big meal at noon as a reward. It just so happened that there were a lot of dishes delivered that morning, and there was a lot of leftovers.
Su Qiong was preparing dishes in the kitchen wearing a Bluetooth headset. Mu Yunting was sitting on the sofa in the living room, watching the news, but the news had already ended long ago and he seemed to be in a daze.
Su Qiong swayed to the rhythm of the song, turned around to wash her hands, and noticed Mu Yunting, who was in a daze. Mu Yunting looked back and was startled. "I'm going back to my room to work."
"Okay."
Su Qiong turned her head, shook off the water droplets on her hands, and picked up the kitchen knife.
The consequence of pulling an all-nighter was that Mu Yunting wasn't as energetic when he handled company matters in the afternoon. But he wasn't incapable of adapting to this level of intensity; the biggest obstacle to his work was his frequent distractions.
Mu Yunting felt a mixture of bewilderment and panic. He couldn't quite recall having breakfast together that morning. He had no idea how to spend lunch, and the afternoon drifted by in a daze. Sitting at his desk, the company's schedule quietly unfolded on the screen, Mu Yunting's eyes blank. Then he came to his senses, closed the document, and picked up his phone.
"She's capable at work, very pretty, has a nice voice... and cooks delicious food," Mu Yunting said thoughtfully, rocking his office chair. The phone on the table flashed a call icon.
Chen Baichuan: "Really? Is she a good cook?" He had been to Mu Yunting's company before, so he naturally knew what Su Qiong looked like and her work ability. Because he knew her, his image of Su Qiong was so ingrained that he couldn't imagine her cooking again.
Chen Baichuan was sunbathing by his family's swimming pool that afternoon when he unexpectedly received a call from his childhood friend. Unexpectedly, this guy was so kind that he kept chatting for a while. Mu Yunting said, "I think I have someone I like." He was so startled that he almost fell off the lounge chair.
"I'm not surprised that a man and a woman cooped up in a small apartment could develop feelings for each other... but you, I'm a little... well, very surprised." Chen Baichuan used a skewer to insert a slice of watermelon. "While I can't guarantee you're as capable as Su Qiong at work, there are plenty of people who are pretty, have a nice voice, and can cook. Think carefully about whether this short period of lockdown and the close proximity to her are the only reasons you've developed feelings for her."
Chen Baichuan was able to play with Mu Yunting, so he was naturally not a bad person. Their love was unexpectedly pure. Thinking of the blind date that his family urged him to go on, he felt a headache again. The lunch box made by the Zhu family's youngest daughter was really unpalatable...
"And Su Qiong resigned, right? I remember you said she didn't want to do this job anymore. By the time the lockdown is over, you two won't have much in common, to be honest. Will you still feel the same way you do now?"
Mu Yunting fell silent. Honestly, he didn't know. Growing up, his life had been relatively uneventful. He'd developed few emotions and only had a few true friends. He had no female friends to begin with, and Chen Baichuan's words had confused him. He wasn't sure if this was a romantic relationship or just a friendship between opposite sexes.
The two chatted about some random things. Then Chen Baichuan received a call from his mother and hung up the phone, wailing.
Mu Yunting rubbed his fingers, regained his composure and continued working.
Su Qiong lay in bed, checking in on the game's new event. Thanks to Mu Yunting's tireless efforts to reach level 30, she'd gotten the event's most satisfying card costume. And Mu Yunting's recommended friend had also reached level 30, giving her the ultimate gift package: a rare voice line! She quickly clicked on all the rewards, listened to them twice, and then, feeling a sense of leisure, clicked on Mu Yunting and the unknown newbie's accounts.
Oh my god... the account display cabinet is full of event cards from the latest event, and they are all fully advanced and the highest level! Su Qiong admired them back and forth and sighed in his heart: They are all rich people.
I've been toiling away on quests and leveling up, spending as little as possible, and I've only gotten three cards. The increased card pool odds haven't affected Su Qiong at all. If it doesn't come out on the last day, I'll get a guaranteed 648!
After the entertainment, Su Qiong opened the PDF of Subject Three "Basic Knowledge of National Tour Guides", planning to take advantage of the lockdown to finish reading the examination materials, and then go to Tang Yixi to be a volunteer after the lockdown is lifted.
Speaking of plans, once the lockdown is lifted, I guess I won't have much to do with Mu Yunting anymore...
One is a busy president waiting to take over, and the other is a reserve tour guide running around everywhere.
Su Qiong was distracted for a while, then picked up her phone and continued reading.
That evening, Mu Yunting hadn't finished his work, and Su Qiong was alone in the kitchen, cooking. She was wearing headphones, her tablet resting beside the cutting board, paused on the screen where she was mixing the sauce. She tiptoed to grab the electronic scale and mixed the ingredients according to the instructions in the video.
In the glass bowl beside her was a bowl of boneless chicken wings. Su Qiong was planning to make chicken wings and potatoes. She also had some mung bean flour at home, so she could make some garlic vermicelli.
The kelp soup simmered nearby. Su Qiong washed her hands and continued the tutorial. The blogger's chicken wings and potato wraps were so delicious she was drooling. The chicken wings had bones replaced with potato strips, then braised and sprinkled with sesame seeds. She couldn't believe how delicious they were. She poured the sauce into a glass bowl and, using plastic wrap instead of disposable gloves, gently kneaded the wings to incorporate the sauce. Humming, she smugly said, "There are always more solutions than problems."
Su Qiong marinated the chicken wings, peeled off the plastic wrap and threw it into the kitchen waste bin, then continued playing the paused tutorial video. She was so focused on watching it, with the volume on her headphones turned up, that she didn't notice Mu Yunting gently opening the study door.
Seeing Su Qiong watching the video seriously, Mu Yunting tiptoed to her side and watched it together.
Su Qiong noticed Mu Yunting approaching. After another step finished playing, Su Qiong double-clicked to pause. "This is making braised chicken wings wrapped in potatoes."
"Work is done, do you want to come make dinner?"
Mu Yunting nodded, walked to the sink, noticed the water droplets on the water spinach, and silently began to pick the vegetables. He thought about what Chen Baichuan had said, pondered why he liked Su Qiong, and occasionally thought about how Su Qiong felt about him. Before he knew it, the whole basket of washed vegetables had been picked clean.
Su Qiong took the bowl from Mu Yunting and started cooking. She held the spatula in one hand and the wok handle in the other. While she was adding oil and stirring the wok, she tucked her hair behind her ear and smiled. "Are you hungry?"
Mu Yunting could smell the aroma of frying oil and replied, "A little." He had no taste for the food at lunch, as if he had not eaten much at all. In the afternoon, he was working and thinking. When he finally finished his work, he was actually starving.
Su Qiong responded, "Okay." She shoveled the food out of the pot and said, "I'm starving. I'm craving chicken wings so much." She gestured to Mu Yunting to take the food out of the pot. Su Qiong quickly picked up the chicken wings that had been marinated for a while, put them in the seasoning according to the instruction and stir-fried them in the pot.
Mu Yunting washed the dishes and sat at the dining table waiting. The open kitchen allowed him to easily see Su Qiong not far away.
Before the food is even out of the pot, the aroma of the stew wafts out from the not-so-airtight lid.
Su Qiong leaned on the kitchen counter, sniffed the food, and said regretfully, "It would be better if there were sesame seeds. It would look more fragrant if sprinkled on it."
She lowered her head to look at the pot, and Mu Yunting looked at her.
It seems that there is no need for any specific reason to like someone.
Like a simple T-shirt, a familiar voice, and a simple "It would be better if there were sesame seeds."
