Chapter 5

Chapter 5

Mu Yunting was 24 when he took over the company from his parents. Three months later, he hired Su Qiong, a 22-year-old who had failed the postgraduate entrance exam, as his assistant. Six years later, the company has risen to the forefront of the industry, its transformation from a run-down entity to a revitalized one, a feat unmatched by the combined efforts of the two and their employees. Now Mu Yunting is approaching 30, and Su Qiong has already celebrated her 28th birthday. As she approaches 30, it feels as if Su Qiong has become a part of his life.

Mu Yunting had never thought that Su Qiong would resign. Looking at the resignation report in front of him, he had a lot of guesses in his mind. He asked, "Can I ask the reason for resignation?"

Was it the work that was too tiring? The salary wasn't enough? Someone poached her? Or was it some unavoidable factor, like health problems?

The official language in the reason section of the report is a bunch of bullshit:

Dear Chairman, hello! Due to numerous personal reasons, after careful and sober consideration, I solemnly submit my resignation from your company. Your confidence in my abilities allowed me to join your company and organized training to enhance my abilities. Over the past six years, I have learned a great deal and gained considerable experience. I am deeply grateful for this! I thank the company for providing me with a platform for development and the opportunity to work alongside an outstanding team of employees. Thank you for your support and encouragement during our time together. I am very satisfied with your work environment, but due to personal reasons, I must submit my resignation, which has yet to be approved.

Su Qiong laughed dryly and said, "I just want to do something else."

Should I say I don't like working at all, that I'm forced to do so by life? Now that I've made enough money, am I going to give up my life, not get married or have kids, just live a life of idleness and wait for death? And then give my boss a lecture on my outlook on life, values, and relationships?

Su Qiong collected his thoughts, straightened his back, rubbed the floor with the tip of his right toe, and said helplessly: "Boss, just think of me being kicked in the head by a donkey. There's no need for so many reasons."

Mu Yunting was even more confused. He thought for a moment and said to Su Qiong seriously, "If you are not satisfied with the salary, vacation time, and work, these can be discussed. The company is no longer as short of staff as it was back then. We can coordinate."

Seeing that Su Qiong was determined, Mu Yunting had no right to reject his employee's resignation.

"It just so happens that you don't have any major projects on hand right now..." After saying that, Mu Yunting suddenly had an idea: Could it be that she chose this opportunity specifically to resign?

Mu Yunting paused and continued, "But when you leave, you still have to go through a work handover. I have to wait until I select a suitable director. It will probably take about a week at the earliest. Are you anxious?"

Su Qiong breathed a sigh of relief, waved his hand and said, "Don't worry."

"I'll handle your transition within fifteen days, and I'll have the person appointed the day after tomorrow. During this time, you might need to mentor the new hires and hand over some of the work."

The event went smoothly. Su Qiong said goodbye to Mu Yunting, who had to work overtime to transfer people because of her sudden resignation, and hummed a song as she left work with her commuter bag.

Back at her small apartment near the office, Su Qiong swung her bag onto the hook by the door. She kicked off her shoes and sank into the soft lazy sofa, burying her face in it and rubbing it, letting out a comfortable sigh.

Su Qiong, still in that position, began to scroll through her phone. Seeing the new episode update sign, she excitedly sat up and rushed into the kitchen. Pots and pans clattered in her hands as she grabbed a few scallions, two tomatoes, and an egg from the refrigerator and quickly cooked a bowl of clear noodle soup.

The warm mist with the aroma of noodle soup soothed her nerves. Su Qiong took the insulated bowl to the living room carpet and sat down on the sofa. She happily turned on the giant projection screen and sipped noodles to watch the funny new show.
