Chapter 7

Chapter 7

To everyone's surprise, the flu virus swept the world with incredible speed. The day after Su Qiong's conversation with her friend Tang Yixi, the number of UCI cases nationwide increased exponentially, and hospital wards were stretched thin. Masks, even at triple the price, were still in short supply.

On April 23rd, lockdowns were implemented across the country, strictly restricting movement within and outside the city. Daily nucleic acid testing was implemented nationwide, but Shenzhen, facing severe infection, remained silent.

The operations of many factories cooperating with branches of Mu's Group were affected. When the situation was reported to the headquarters, Su Qiong and everyone in the department worked overtime and were forced to postpone their resignation date.

While policy measures have reduced the mortality rate to a manageable level, the rate of infection continues to exceed everyone's expectations. To minimize the uncontrollable spread of the epidemic, personnel movement management has become increasingly stringent.

On April 31st, Su Qiong finally finished her last overtime job and her resignation letter would be approved by the Human Resources Department tomorrow.

This overtime work happened to be related to chip docking with a Shenzhen technology company. Su Qiong originally wanted to meet with Tang Yixi, but they were both so busy that they didn't even send a few WeChat messages before leaving, let alone meeting each other.

Fearing they would be locked down in Shenzhen due to the sudden outbreak, the two of them took a red-eye flight back overnight. Now she and Mu Yunting had just gotten off the plane at five in the morning, and the company gate was locked. They had no choice but to go to the residential complex where Mu Yunting usually stayed to make their final report. The community was not far from the company, making it convenient for them to rest.

After finishing the final work summary, Su Qiong breathed a sigh of relief, looked at his watch, and then turned to look out the floor-to-ceiling window in the living room.

It was half past six, the sky was blue and white, and it was a sunny day.

Mu Yunting rubbed his brows, feeling a little overwhelmed. With his gentlemanly demeanor, he said, "Go wash up first. After we have dinner, we can go to the company. Or you can rest in the guest room here before leaving."

"When you get to the company, you can go directly to the Human Resources Department to get the documents. They have already been taken care of. Have you got all the things from the company?" Thinking of Su Qiong's workstation where there were fewer and fewer things in the past few days, Mu Yunting felt a little lost for a moment.

Su Qiong responded. She had already cursed the epidemic countless times in her heart, but her face remained calm. "Okay, I'll go to the company with you later." Of course, the most comfortable way to rest is to go home and rest!

After washing with cold water, both of them felt much more awake.

Mu Yunting's hired nanny was away for the past few days. Her husband was hospitalized due to the flu, and she was so distressed that she went to take care of him. He was already starving and wanted to order takeout, but because of the epidemic, takeout in the community had to be quarantined for two hours before it could be picked up. He might as well cook for himself. The embarrassing thing was that he couldn't cook.

Su Qiong knew her boss was a complete slouch in terms of personal skills, so she volunteered to cook. She was also very hungry. She looked in the refrigerator, which was overflowing with items, but ignored the various vegetables and decided to simply cook two bowls of clear noodle soup. She cooked two bowls of noodles without a hitch, and then brought them to the table. Mu Yunting's bowl was deliberately without green onions.

Mu Yunting sipped a spoonful of noodle soup; it was light and flavorful. He hadn't expected Special Assistant Su to be so good at making noodles. It had been so long since he realized Su Qiong was such a good cook; he'd often seen her ordering takeout or making do with instant noodles at the office.

The hungry stomach warmed up and the cold official atmosphere was dissipated.

Knowing that Mu Yunting had hired a housekeeper who worked on a regular basis, the two of them finished their meal, put their bowls in the sink, and were about to leave. Mu Yunting glanced at the clock in the living room. It was exactly eight o'clock.

"Wait." Mu Yunting stopped Su Qiong as she was about to put on her shoes at the door. He looked away from Su Qiong's puzzled eyes, hesitated for a moment, and took out a gift box from under the TV cabinet.

"The company has changed a lot in recent years, and you have contributed a lot. Now you are leaving, and I hope everything goes well for you no matter what you do." After a pause, he handed the gift box to Su Qiong and said dryly.

"Inside is a set of gold jewelry. If you don't like it, you can melt it down and make gold ingots. There's also a check for 100,000 yuan from the Bank of China. This is from me personally. Thank you for working overtime with me every day. It's also hard work to be my assistant."

Su Qiong took the high-quality gift box, estimated its weight, put on a dignified and polite smile, and said cheerfully, "Thank you, boss." In her heart, she was already shouting "Ahhhhhh" for her boss.

"Boss, I'm really lucky to have worked with you over the past few years. I've learned a lot. Thank you, and thank you for the company's training and trust in me."

Sad emotions were suddenly brought up, and both of them felt uncomfortable. They quickly packed up their things, put on their shoes, and walked out.

As soon as the door opened, they saw the door to the elevator opening. The two heard footsteps and looked over.

The medical worker Dabai walked towards them with an alcohol spray bottle on his back, spraying as he walked and shouting through the three layers of protective clothing.

"What's going on? We were told this morning to stay home! Stay home! Why are you still going out? Did you know there are two cases of the epidemic in your building?"
