Chapter 9
Just imagine how it felt to be forced to live with your former boss right after leaving your job. Su Qiong can only say: awkward, so awkward! Thinking back to the first day of living together, Su Qiong still wants to bang her head against the wall. It's unbearable to look back. Although it was peaceful and natural, the awkwardness of the two of them didn't know how to get along next.
"You woke up just in time. The takeout I ordered for lunch just arrived. Eat something first." Mu Yunting ordered the takeout around 12:30, and it took almost three hours for it to arrive. His hunger had subsided under the effect of glucagon, and he was about to knock on Su Qiong's door to ask her to come out for something to eat when she came out.
"The housekeeper just called, and the nucleic acid test will probably reach our floor soon." This building has two households per elevator, and no one lives next door, so coming to this floor is the same as coming to them.
Su Qiong sat at the dining table and saw the steam rising from the porcelain bowl of noodles. She guessed that Mu Yunting had poured it out and heated it up. Her stomach, which had not felt very hungry, suddenly felt empty. Her mouth was salivating, and she didn't refuse. She picked up her bowl and chopsticks and started eating.
Su Qiong was used to making some slurping sounds when eating noodles, and her cheeks bulged, adding a touch of warmth to the quiet restaurant.
Mu Yunting watched her eat, his appetite also aroused, and he picked up his chopsticks. The only sound in the quiet restaurant was the sound of the two people eating.
After the meal that day, the two exchanged a few polite words. Su Qiong went back to lie on her side, while Mu Yunting stayed in the study, and the two of them lived in peace in a corner.
In the evening, Mu Yunting learned his lesson and ordered takeout in advance. When he was about to pour out the food to warm it up, he looked at the bowl soaking in the sink and suddenly remembered that the community was closed and the housekeeper could not come.
Su Qiong had been forced to live in someone else's house after eating two takeout meals from Mu Yunting. She felt very uncomfortable the whole time. After finishing her meal, she collected the dishes and walked into the kitchen. She looked at the dishes in the sink and suddenly realized what was happening. She leaned over and said, "Is Aunt Lin unable to come? I'll wash the dishes. It'll be my accommodation fee."
Before dinner, she suggested sharing the takeout money, and after getting Mu Yunting's agreement, she felt more at ease.
"I can't live and eat for free in someone else's house, can I?" Su Qiong thought, rolling up her sleeves to wash the dishes. Although she often came to Mu Yunting's house, she had never used these appliances before, only to give reports or pick up her boss from work, so she was a little unfamiliar with them.
Mu Yunting was embarrassed to be the boss, but he didn't know how to help. Standing at the door of the open kitchen, watching Su Qiong wash dishes was quite novel. He was not the one who usually did the housework, so he probably didn't know this kitchen as well as Su Qiong did.
Because of the pandemic, the company is currently on a short break, and Mu Yunting gave the company fifteen days off. He adjusted his work, which had been affected by the pandemic. It was a blessing in disguise, as he now had some free time. He looked at Su Qiong's apron-wearing back and thought, his gaze unconsciously returning to the woman in front of him.
Su Qiong stood relaxed in front of the sink washing dishes, a brown striped apron tied around the waist of her loose sports short-sleeved shirt. Some hair from her low ponytail went around her neck and fell on her invisible chest. More long hair on her back just covered half of the bow on the apron string.
Mu Yunting recalled the years he spent with Su Qiong. They were either swiftly working on something or on their way. His first impression of Su Qiong was always that of a career woman, dressed in an office outfit, delicate makeup, a bun, and a resolute gaze. He had never seen it, and naturally, never considered that Su Qiong had another side to her life. Mu Yunting thought, after all these years together, I don't seem to understand her well enough. More accurately, I don't seem to have considered understanding her.
Su Qiong didn't know why Mu Yunting was standing at the door. She imagined the days when her boss was supervising her, feeling so nervous that she almost dropped a bowl.
Anyway, that was how the awkward first day went. Now, after a few days together, they both seemed to have found a way to not bother each other.
