Despite Bao Yu's efforts to slow down her journey home, she still arrived at her doorstep.
Taking a deep breath, Bao Yu entered the home password that Ren Chenyang had given her before leaving yesterday, pushed open the door, and went inside.
“Little Fish, you’re back! Waaah, let Mommy see you, okay? It’s all Mommy’s fault for not taking good care of you. How did you faint? How are you now? I heard you hit your head, does it still hurt?…” As soon as Bao Yu entered the door, she saw Li Shanshan with tears streaming down her face.
With a sigh, Bao Yu replied, "Mom, I'm fine. I just slipped yesterday. You see, I'm usually perfectly fine. Don't scare yourself."
"Waaaaah, if you had lived with Mom, none of this would have happened, right? I know you mean well, worried that I'd be a burden in that family with you, but your Uncle Ren has never minded you. You just won't listen. Waaaaah, look how haggard you are now. It's all my fault. I gave birth to you, and all these years, I haven't been able to take good care of you..."
Seeing that Ms. Li Shanshan was about to launch into her endless, monotonous chanting routine again, Bao Yu had to interrupt:
“Ms. Li Shanshan, that’s enough! I’ve already said I’m fine. I don’t trust that Chenyang didn’t tell you about my situation! I’ve already agreed to work at his company and to live here. If you keep saying that, I’m not staying here!”
"Oh! I won't say anything more!" After saying that, she glanced at Bao Yu cautiously.
It wasn't that Bao Yu spoke to her that way intentionally; it's just that Li Shanshan always felt indebted to Bao Yu, so she was always careful in her words and actions. In fact, Bao Yu had told her that there was no need to act this way, but she wouldn't listen.
Later, she would often cry to Bao Yu, repeatedly saying that she had not fulfilled her responsibilities as a mother.
At first, Bao Yu would hug her and cry with her, but after a while and many times, Bao Yu couldn't take it anymore.
After yet another round of nagging from Bao Yu, he couldn't help but say to her, "Ms. Li Shanshan, that's enough. It's always the same old thing. Are you some kind of nagging old woman?"
Bao Yu still laughs when he thinks about Li Shanshan's bewildered expression back then. Later, whenever Li Shanshan cried, Bao Yu would speak to her in that same tone, which actually made Li Shanshan feel a little better.
Actually, Bao Yu didn't not want to see Li Shanshan, but as Li Shanshan herself said, she rarely went home except to send money back, and after she remarried, it was even less likely that she would come back all the time.
Therefore, Li Shanshan didn't actually participate much in Bao Yu's life from childhood to adulthood.
To put it bluntly, Li Shanshan was practically a familiar stranger to Bao Yu.
It wasn't that Li Shanshan didn't care about Bao Yu; it's just that she wasn't around, so even if she called every day, it wouldn't make a difference. Besides, for little Bao Yu, "You want me to call you? That would just interfere with me playing with my friends!"
Having never received parental love since childhood, Bao Yu never even considered it. Besides, her grandparents had been so good to her, so why should she force herself to pursue happiness that wasn't meant for her?
Li Shanshan could also sense Bao Yu's growing distance from her, so she wanted to care about him even more. However, she had her own family, so she couldn't really find the time to contact Bao Yu.
Faced with Li Shanshan's enthusiasm, Bao Yu felt overwhelmed but couldn't refuse. Therefore, she always tried to avoid her whenever possible.
"Little Fish, Mom made your favorite dishes today. Go wash up and let's eat."
"Little fish, look, Mom bought you some clothes."
"Little Fish, don't look at your phone all the time, it's bad for your eyes."
"Little Fish, how about Mommy sleeps with you tonight?"
"Little fish..."
