Chapter 17
Beside me, the CEO of Chuangyi Technology Company was speaking.
"...Thank you very much, President Yan. It is a great honor for Chuangyi to cooperate with the Yan family."
Yan Shiting did not answer, but paused slightly, his gaze falling on the slender figure in the corner of the hall.
Their eyes met, but Yu Li quickly looked away, continuing to dry her rain-soaked hair with the towel in her hand.
Yan Shiting's gaze, however, was subtly observing Yu Li.
I haven't seen you for a few days, you've lost some weight.
Wearing a formal shirt and tie, are you here for a job interview?
It's gotten colder today, and it's raining too. Why aren't you wearing a jacket?
Yan Shiting's lips tightened, and he paused for only a moment before continuing to walk forward.
That's enough.
-
Yu Li never expected to see Yan Shiting here.
He was caught off guard when his eyes met Yan Shiting's. He immediately turned his head away and only breathed a sigh of relief after the group of people left the building.
He wiped the rain off his head and went to the receptionist to register.
"Thank you for the towel. I'm the intern who received a call yesterday to come for an interview."
"Okay, just fill in your name and phone number here. The HR department is on the fifth floor."
After registering, Yu Li followed the directions given by the receptionist and took the elevator to the fifth floor for her interview.
Half an hour had passed by the time the interview ended.
The HR asked Yu Li to come back in half a month for another written test. Only after passing that test could she be admitted to Chuangyi Technology Company for an internship.
The written test two weeks later was different from the one before the interview. It was specially designed by Chuangyi Company for the interns to determine their professional level and which type of work they were suited for.
Yu Li stood up to thank him, and just as she was about to leave, the HR suddenly asked again, "Excuse me for asking, but I noticed that you worked on game-related things at the New Journey competition, and the tool-type mini-program you just showed me. So, which aspect are you more skilled at and interested in?"
Yu Li knew that Chuangyi also had a game development studio. The HR asked this question because they probably wanted to consider which department to assign him to after he passed the written test.
But Yu Li was somewhat unable to answer this question.
What is he good at or fond of? He doesn't actually know.
He pursed his lips, his eyes blank, and said, "I think everything is fine."
The HR person nodded and smiled, "Okay, I understand. Don't be nervous, good luck on the written test."
As Yu Li left the interview office, she let out a soft sigh.
After going downstairs, he saw in the lobby that it was raining heavily outside.
When I arrived, it was just a drizzle, but now it's pouring rain.
Yu Li hailed a taxi using her phone, but it was raining heavily today, so the taxi was taking a while to arrive.
Seven or eight minutes later, he received a call from the driver, who said he would be there soon.
Yu Li was about to run to the roadside to wait in the rain when he saw a figure holding an umbrella walking quickly toward him as he stepped out of the office building.
Upon closer inspection, it was Butler He.
Yu Li was stunned. When he came to his senses, he was about to pretend he hadn't seen anything, but then he heard Butler He calling him anxiously:
"Xiao Yu, wait a minute, grab the umbrella!"
Yu Li could no longer pretend she hadn't seen it, and stood there dumbfounded.
Butler He took a few steps to him and stuffed another black umbrella into his hand.
"It's raining so hard, how can we go without an umbrella?"
Caught off guard, Yu Li looked at the black umbrella in her hand, then at Butler He: "Uncle He, I..."
He paused, then glanced at the black Bentley parked by the roadside.
He pursed his lips and asked, "Did President Yan ask you to give this to me?"
Butler He's eyes were somewhat complicated as he said, "Since I put the umbrella in your hand, it's a gift from me. Besides, no matter who asked me to give it to you, you can't throw it away. Take care of your health and don't get caught in the rain and catch a cold."
Yu Li gripped the umbrella tightly and lowered her head.
Butler He had been kind to him, and he didn't want to waste his kindness.
Another white car was parked on the side of the road, and Yu Li's phone rang at that moment.
His taxi arrived.
Yu Li hung up the phone, looked at Butler He, and finally said, "Thank you, Uncle He."
Butler He nodded and watched him walk towards the white car with his umbrella.
Only after the white car had driven far away did Butler He return to his car.
He sat in the passenger seat, turned around and said to Yan Shiting in the back seat, "Young Master, you..."
He didn't know exactly what Yan Shiting and Yu Li had argued about that night, but he could more or less guess that his young master had probably said something he shouldn't have, causing misunderstandings.
Yan Shiting looked down at his tablet and interrupted Butler He, saying, "Let's go back to the company."
The driver responded and started the car.
Butler He withdrew his gaze and sighed silently.
...
Back in the dormitory, thanks to the umbrella that Butler He brought, Yu Li didn't get wet, only her trouser legs were a little damp.
He changed his pants and sat at his desk in thin clothes, intending to read for a while longer, but he couldn't help but think of what the HR had said.
What does he actually like to do?
Yu Li propped her head up and stared blankly at her desk, a rare occurrence for her.
As he was posting, he suddenly thought of Yan Shiting again, and his gaze secretly drifted to the black umbrella in the bucket by the door.
Thinking back on the argument that night, what he said and what Yan Shiting said seemed very chaotic, as if they had no common ideas at all.
They really are from two different worlds.
Oh well, it's all in the past anyway.
Yu Li shook her head, putting her worries behind her.
Around noon, Yan Sui returned from the library, bringing lunch for her three roommates.
"Thank you, Godfather! You've worked hard, Godfather. Please have a seat." Liu Cong slid forward and took the plastic bags from Yan Sui's hands.
Yan Sui joked with him for a while before looking at Yu Li, who was in a daze.
"Yu Li, it's time to eat. I packed you some sour soup beef."
Yu Li's thoughts were pulled back.
He walked to Liu Cong's table, took his own portion of food, and returned to his desk.
"Why are you dressed so scantily today?" Yan Sui asked, somewhat puzzled.
Yu Li is cold-sensitive; he can tolerate heat in summer but not cold in winter. He's guaranteed to be the first to put on thermal underwear when the temperature drops.
But today all three of them wore jackets, while Yu Li was still only wearing a short-sleeved shirt.
"I don't feel cold," Yu Li said as she unpacked the takeout box.
“That’s strange. Si’er used to be terrified of the cold.” Liu Cong said, walking to Yu Li’s table and touching his arm. He found that Yu Li’s body temperature seemed to be a little warmer than his own.
"Si'er, do you have a fever? Why don't you take your temperature after you finish eating?"
Yu Li shook her head and said, "It's nothing, it's not a fever, it's probably just that your hands are cold."
Upon hearing this, Yan Sui, still worried, took out a thermometer and used it on Yu Li.
37.2 degrees Celsius, normal.
He touched the back of his head and saw that Yu Li's complexion was normal, so he was slightly relieved.
"Okay, let's eat. Oh, by the way, this restaurant recently changed its pickled cabbage. I almost threw up from the sourness when I ate it today."
Upon hearing this, Liu Cong deliberately picked out the pickled cabbage from his own serving of pickled fish and tasted it. Immediately, his face scrunched up in disgust.
Wow, this tastes amazing!
"Right? I don't even know how long it's been fermenting. I even asked the boss to put less in for you guys."
Listening to their conversation, Yu Li felt that her sour soup beef was just right.
Perhaps it's because he put in the fewest pieces, just one or two.
He didn't express any opinion and silently ate most of it.
-
The weather has been really strange lately. After it rained that day, the temperature didn't drop completely, and within two days it reached a high of 30 degrees Celsius again.
As the weather changed, so did Yu Li's mood.
He became somewhat irritable, lost his appetite and couldn't eat, and was also quite sleepy, sometimes sleeping for up to twelve hours a day.
In just a few days, he lost several pounds, and his chin became a bit pointed.
That morning, Yan Sui got up early as usual to go to the library to reserve a seat. When he arrived at the washroom, he found Yu Li lying on the edge of the sink, looking uncomfortable and trying her best to suppress the sound as she spat out a few mouthfuls of water.
Yan Sui was startled and quickly closed the door to block out the sound, asking, "Yu Li, what's wrong?"
Yu Li turned on the tap, washed her face, and raised her pale face, saying, "It seems like I have a bit of gastroenteritis."
Yan Sui patted him on the back: "I'll take you to the infirmary."
Yu Li said, "It's okay, I remember I have some gastritis granules, I'll just make some and drink it later."
"Let's go take a look."
Yu Li shook her head, too exhausted to speak to him any further. After vomiting, she weakly crawled back to bed and lay down.
Yan Sui watched his retreating figure, frowning with worry in his eyes.
Yu Li tried to sleep again. When he woke up, he found that Yan Sui hadn't gone to the library and had even packed a bowl of millet porridge for him, which was now on his desk.
Yu Li thanked Yan Sui and gave him money for the millet porridge.
After finishing that bowl of millet porridge, the nausea and vomiting seemed to subside a little.
Yu Li rummaged through the drawer and found that the box of gastritis granules had expired.
Yu Li: "..."
He was speechless. He rarely got sick, and he hadn't taken these medicines much after preparing them. He never expected them to expire.
Yu Li sighed.
"Yu Li, what's wrong?" Yan Sui looked up and asked.
"The medicine has expired."
"Huh?" Yan Sui was taken aback, then looked at his first-aid kit: "I have some stomach medicine here, can I have it?"
"It's okay, I'm much better now, I just need to rest a little longer."
After Yu Li finished speaking, she felt sleepy again and climbed into bed to lie down.
Yan Sui thought for a moment, then picked up his phone and sent a message to Yan Shiting.
[Brother, can Uncle He bring us lunch?]
[I want to eat home-cooked meals. The food at school is terrible. Even Yu Li, who's usually not a picky eater, can't eat it. She's lost several pounds and got an upset stomach. Poor thing.jpg]
After a long while, Yan Sui finally received a message from his brother:
【Um. 】
At noon, Butler He brought lunch to Yan Sui.
He sent a portion for four people, so Yan Sui's three roommates each received a share.
Yan Sui and Liu Cong returned carrying several insulated lunch boxes, excitedly shouting:
"Come here, Yu Li, my family sent us food today. There's braised ribbonfish, which is your favorite."
He opened the lunchbox and placed several tempting-looking dishes in front of Yu Li.
All of those dishes were ones that Yu Li loved to eat.
However, upon smelling the faint fishy odor of the braised ribbonfish, Yu Li frowned deeply.
He clutched his stomach and turned his head away.
"vomit--"
