Chapter 25

Chapter 25

Yan Shiting escorted Yu Li to the gate of Y University.

Before getting out of the car, Yu Li looked at the marriage certificate in her hand, thought for a moment, and said, "Brother Yan, can I leave my marriage certificate with you too?"

If your roommates accidentally see you in the dorm, it will be hard to explain.

Not to mention, he was married to Yan Sui's older brother.

Thinking of this, Yu Li asked again, "Will you tell Yan Sui about our marriage?"

Yan Shiting's grip on the steering wheel tightened slightly. He turned to look at Yu Li, and after a long pause, said, "No."

Yu Li didn't notice his strange behavior and breathed a slight sigh of relief after getting the answer.

At least for now, he doesn't want the people around him to know.

Once the news of the marriage is revealed, people will definitely ask why, and it won't be easy to say it's for the sake of the children...

Moreover, Yu Li doesn't even dare to tell her mother and sister about her marriage.

After handing the marriage certificate to Yan Shiting, Yu Li got out of the car.

"Goodbye, Brother Yan."

Yan Shiting looked at him and nodded gently: "Goodbye."

After Yu Li's figure disappeared from sight, Yan Shiting withdrew his gaze and looked down at the marriage certificate in his hand.

A moment later, they started the car and drove away.

...

It took some time to get the marriage certificate, and by the time Yu Li returned to her dormitory it was almost 11 a.m.

Liu Cong went to the library to study and hasn't returned yet; only Yan Sui and Xu Bin are in the dormitory.

When Yu Li opened the door, Xu Bin, who was sitting in his seat looking at something intently, was startled by the sound and turned around in fright.

He breathed a sigh of relief when he saw it was Yu Li: "Si'er, you're back."

Yu Li nodded. "Yes, I'm sorry I startled you."

Xu Bin shook his head. "It's nothing."

As the two were talking, Yan Sui, who was lying in bed, lifted the bed curtain and looked at them, not quite fully awake.

"Yu Li, you're back. Where did you go this morning, getting up so early?"

Yu Li carefully put away her household registration booklet and gave a reason she had already prepared: "I went to get a replacement ID card."

"Oh." Yan Sui nodded. It was just a casual remark, so he didn't ask any further questions.

At lunchtime, Yu Li once again refused Yan Shiting's offer to order food for him and went to the cafeteria to eat with Xu Bin.

Ever since Xu Bin noticed that he frequently ordered takeout, Yu Li has tried to eat out as much as possible during the last few days of the holiday.

Although the food wasn't to his liking, he could still eat it if it was light and not too strong in flavor.

After lunch, when I returned to the dormitory, Yan Sui had already gone out to meet Xu Changke.

Yu Li sat in her seat, munching on an apple, feeling drowsy.

Xu Bin, whose bed was next to his, glanced at him several times, seemingly wanting to say something but holding back.

After Yu Li climbed into bed for a nap, Xu Bin withdrew his gaze, lost in thought.

-

After receiving the certificate, the household registration booklet will be sent home.

In the afternoon, Yu Li left the courier station and sent a message to her sister.

【Xin Xin, I've sent the household registration book back. The courier will leave it at the delivery station; you can pick it up this weekend.】

It was still class time, and Yu Xin did not reply.

Yu Li put away her phone and on her way back to the dormitory, she suddenly received another message from Yan Shiting.

I'll be waiting for you at the school gate.

Yu Li was somewhat surprised: [? Brother Yan, is there something you need?]

Let's go eat together.

Yu Li hurriedly ran to the school gate, got into the car, and greeted them:

"Brother Yan."

Yan Shiting's gaze fell on him, and he responded with an "Mmm".

The driver started the car.

Yu Li's phone rang once; it was his younger sister, Yu Xin, sending him an "OK" emoji.

Yu Li: [School's out?]

Yu Xin: [Yes, I'm having dinner.]

Later, Yu Xin sent another message: "Brother, I saw the money you put in my backpack. Why are you giving me money again? Don't you have enough money for yourself?"

"That's enough, don't worry. We'll get the bike fixed this weekend, or maybe get a new one. If you need more money, just tell your brother."

Yu Xin: [That's enough, I've saved up some pocket money myself. Thank you, brother.jpg]

Yu Li: [Pat head.jpg]

After the chat ended, Yu Li looked at her phone with a somewhat worried expression.

He remembered what Yu Xin had said when she came over during the National Day holiday: that his mother had an uncle with whom she seemed to have a close relationship.

This is a private matter concerning the elders, and as their son, Yu Li really doesn't feel comfortable bringing it up.

She couldn't very well just ask her mother directly if someone was pursuing her lately, could she?

Yu Li frowned.

Find an opportunity to talk to Mom... but that opportunity is really hard to find.

Yu Li leaned against the car window, using a cushion as a pillow, and sighed softly.

Half an hour later, the car stopped in front of a building with a Jiangnan garden landscape style.

Yu Li composed herself and got out of the car. She followed Yan Shiting through the gate and noticed that a waterside pavilion in the middle of the pond on her right looked familiar.

After taking two more steps and changing the angle, Yu Li finally understood.

The logo drawn on the takeout bag of the private chef's meal that Yan Shiting ordered for him was exactly the same as the one on the waterside pavilion in front of him.

This is the private kitchen restaurant where Yan Shiting ordered food for him.

Was it because he had been unwilling to order takeout these past few days that we brought him here to eat?

Yu Li guessed, but then worried that she was just imagining things.

He glanced at Yan Shiting, and their eyes met.

"Would you like to take a look at the scenery first?" Yan Shiting asked.

Yu Li was taken aback and hadn't thought of an answer yet when Yan Shiting stopped and ordered a few dishes from the waiter who was serving them.

Then, Yan Shiting looked at Yu Li and said, "Let's go."

Yu Li came to her senses and followed Yan Shiting to the waterside pavilion.

The waterside pavilion is well-ventilated on all sides, offering a wide view of the surrounding scenery.

Inside the high walls, in the southwest corner, stands a large tree that is about the size of three people's embrace.

The buildings in the very center are connected by a long corridor with openwork carved windows on the corridor walls.

There is an artificial hill by the pond, and a pavilion on the hill connects it to the waterside pavilion on the pond.

Yu Li hadn't originally decided to visit, but after being led around by Yan Shiting, she couldn't help but be attracted by the beautiful and ancient scenery.

The frustration in my heart dissipated somewhat.

After the tour, the food they ordered was served.

The two entered the private room, and Yan Shiting poured Yu Li a glass of warm water, saying, "You seemed preoccupied on the way here, what's wrong?"

Yu Li stood there, stunned, holding her teacup.

When he arrived, he was lost in his own thoughts and did not notice that Yan Shiting had paid attention to him.

Unexpectedly...

Yu Li lowered her eyes, pursed her lips, and hesitated whether to speak.

Yan Shiting's face was expressionless, but his tone was calm: "If there's anything I can do to help, just let me know."

Yu Li took a sip of warm water.

He hesitated simply because the matter involved his family situation.

But now that he's married to Yan Shiting, although it wasn't out of love, as allies who will raise their children together in the future, he can't keep his family situation a secret forever.

Perhaps he could really talk to Yan Shiting about it; given Yan Shiting's rational and calm personality, he might be able to give him some good advice.

Thinking of this, Yu Li put down her teacup, lowered her eyes and said, "My family is a single-parent family. My father passed away nine years ago."

Yu Li had never told anyone about her father's death, not even Yan Sui.

He thought he could bring this up calmly, but when he spoke to Yan Shiting, he couldn't help but pause.

The word "passed away" is somewhat difficult to say.

Single-parent families...

Yan Shiting paused in his act of pouring water.

He looked up at Yu Li.

The young man's expression remained relatively calm, but his trembling eyelashes betrayed a hint of his inner turmoil.

Yan Shiting silently put down the teapot, his fingers resting on the edge of the octagonal table.

When he used his parents' family as a reason to persuade Yu Li to get married, did he unintentionally hurt the person in front of him?

Yan Shiting withdrew his hand, making a loose clenching motion.

Unable to see Yan Shiting's reaction, Yu Li quietly took a deep breath and continued, "My sister told me a few days ago..."

He briefly recounted what Yu Xin had said that day, as well as his own worries.

Yan Shiting listened silently the whole time, and when he finished speaking, he said, "The main problem lies with that man. You can try to get to know him."

Yu Li's body stiffened, and she looked up at Yan Shiting.

Yan Shiting said, "If he's a good person, then he'll consider your sister's feelings. He should be the one to handle things after he and your mother start a new life together."

"If the other person is bad, then it will be even easier to handle."

Yu Li looked somewhat bewildered. "How do I do it?"

Yan Shiting said in a deep voice: "Start with him, make him leave on his own."

Yan Shiting's voice remained calm and composed throughout.

Yu Li thought about what he said and had to admit that it was a good idea.

If he only asks his mother, her subjective opinion might influence his judgment.

He asked, "How can I find out?"

Yan Shiting paused, looked into Yu Li's clear eyes, and said, "I suggest we observe her in person."

Aside from officially released information, the only way to know what kind of person someone is is through actual observation.

To actually observe, Yu Li would need to go back and stay for a few days.

Yu Li was slightly taken aback.

If I go home...

He looked down at his stomach.

Although she wasn't showing yet and her mother and sister wouldn't notice, and even if they did, they wouldn't think she was pregnant, Yu Li was still a little worried.

My worries extend beyond what my mother and sister might not be able to accept...

Yu Li pursed her lips, her eyes filled with struggle.

He finally nodded firmly: "Then I'll go back tomorrow."

Yan Shiting looked at him and pushed a plate of steamed pork ribs with millet towards him.

"Eat first, the food is getting cold."

"Okay." Yu Li picked up the bowl and smiled sincerely.

Yan Shiting had already pointed him in the right direction, making it much easier for him to resolve the matter afterward.

With her worries at ease and the food to her liking, Yu Li happily ate an extra half bowl of rice.

After the meal, Yan Shiting escorted him back to school.

By the time we arrived at Y University, it was already dark.

As the car stopped, Yan Shiting said calmly, "I'll go back with you tomorrow."

Yu Li paused as she opened the car door.

He turned his head, and under the streetlight, he could see Yan Shiting's serious expression.

Yu Li subconsciously didn't want to trouble him, "But you're so busy with work..."

Yan Shiting said, "Work can be handled remotely."

"Yu Li," Yan Shiting's tone seemed a little softer, "I'm worried about you going alone."

Although she knew the other person's words might be because of the child, Yu Li's heart still skipped a beat.

He responds better to gentle persuasion than force, and he truly couldn't refuse such words of concern.

Yu Li touched her slightly hot ears and said, "Okay then."

"I'll pick you up tomorrow morning. Go home now and get some rest tonight."

Yu Li nodded, opened the car door, and subconsciously said, "Good night."

Before the car door closed, he heard Yan Shiting's deep voice: "Good night."
