Chapter 20

Chapter 20

The next morning, Yu Li woke up again, this time experiencing morning sickness.

Not wanting to disturb his roommates who were still asleep, he covered his mouth and ran to the communal restroom on the floor to vomit for a while.

After finally calming down a bit, Yu Li returned to her dormitory and saw vitamin B6 tablets on the table, as well as a few oranges left over from yesterday.

He hesitated for a moment, then finally chose to cut an orange and eat it; the sour taste slightly suppressed the urge to feel nauseous.

As I wiped the water stains off the table, my roommates gradually got up.

Seeing Yan Sui yawning as he climbed out of bed, Yu Li was a little surprised: "Yan Sui, aren't you going to the library to study today?"

Since the start of the semester, when she said she wanted to take the postgraduate entrance exam, Yan Sui has been very diligent for the past two weeks, often going to the library before dawn to reserve a seat.

Yan Sui scratched his messy hair, his eyes looking dejected, and said, "I don't really want to go today."

After studying for so many days, he didn't feel like he was getting clearer; instead, he felt even more confused.

Yan Sui clicked his tongue, glanced around, and noticed that Yu Li's face was still pale and her spirits were somewhat low.

"Yu Li, are you still feeling unwell?" Yan Sui asked.

Yu Li shook her head: "It's okay, not as bad as yesterday."

"If you're still not feeling well, how about you get an IV drip today?" Yan Sui frowned worriedly. "Don't you have the Chuangyi written exam tomorrow? What if your poor condition affects the exam?"

Yu Li was slightly taken aback, staring blankly at the dormitory curtains.

He was so shocked yesterday by the news of his pregnancy that he almost forgot about the written exam.

He wasn't worried about the results of the written test, but what if his pregnancy symptoms were still severe after the test and he went to do the internship?

Moreover, if the pregnancy progresses and someone accidentally discovers that he, as a man, is pregnant, it will cause a lot of trouble.

Yu Li pursed her lips, looked away, and frowned, saying, "Let me think about it some more."

Yan Sui observed Yu Li's state for a while and found that he seemed somewhat distracted.

He wiped his face and decided to wash up and have breakfast first. If Yu Li was still not feeling well, he, Liu Cong, and Xu Bin would forcibly take Yu Li to the infirmary for an IV drip.

Yan Sui made up her mind and quickly finished washing up.

Before leaving, Yan Sui poked his head out and asked, "I'm going out to buy breakfast. What do you want to eat? I'll bring it back with me."

While brushing his teeth, Liu Cong replied, "Wonton! Thank you, Godfather!"

Xu Bin replied with "wonton".

Yu Li snapped out of her daze and turned to meet Yan Sui's gaze.

He didn't actually want to eat anything right now, and was about to speak when his phone suddenly rang. The caller ID showed it was a food delivery order.

Yu Li paused, his intuition telling him that it was Yan Shiting who had ordered takeout for him again.

He awkwardly touched his earlobe, stood up and said, "My takeout has arrived."

Yan Sui nodded and said, "Okay, let's go get it together."

After they both left, Liu Cong put down his wash cup and suddenly asked in confusion, "Is there takeout this early?"

It's not even 7:30 yet, most shops probably haven't opened yet, right?

Xu Bin casually remarked, "Don't people who run breakfast shops all start early?"

"Oh, right, I was still half asleep." Liu Cong said, then quickly washed his face to wake himself up.

A short while later, Yu Li and Yan Sui returned together.

Yu Li opened the takeout bag, inside was a light bowl of lean meat porridge.

He had just taken out the porridge when he saw a box of dried strawberries underneath.

Yu Li paused for a moment.

Seeing her three roommates enthusiastically discussing whether the wontons at this shop had a lot of filling, Yu Li quietly opened WeChat, scrolled down, and found her chat box with Yan Shiting.

Since they became friends, he and Yan Shiting hadn't chatted at all. Their only message history was the few firefly photos Yan Shiting sent him on the day they became friends.

Yu Li tapped the input box.

But his finger hovered above the keyboard, yet he hesitated to press the key.

The main problem is... he didn't know what to say.

Yu Li seemed to be able to sense Yan Shiting's intentions.

—As the child's other father, and the one who got him pregnant, he takes on the responsibility of caring for him.

Therefore, saying thank you is inappropriate at this time, and asking why would seem redundant.

However, Yu Li didn't know if her guess was correct.

He snapped out of his daze, looked at the chat page, hesitated a few times, and finally clicked exit.

-

After breakfast, Yu Li called the HR of Chuangyi Company and apologized to them, saying that she could not attend the written test tomorrow.

The HR person still remembered Yu Li and was quite satisfied with his professional level, so they asked him one more question.

Yu Li lowered her eyes, thought for a moment, and said, "I want to find something I truly enjoy doing."

His decision to forgo tomorrow's written exam wasn't solely due to his pregnancy.

The question the HR asked after the interview that day had actually been bothering Yu Li for a long time.

Don't be fooled by his clear goals in submitting resumes and looking for internships after the start of the semester. In reality, how is he any different from those confused students?

If possible, he still wants to know clearly what he likes and wants.

The HR person chuckled and said, "I understand. Well then, I wish you all the best."

Yu Li smiled and said, "Thank you, and I wish you all the best."

After hanging up the phone, Yu Li breathed a sigh of relief.

When he made the call, Yan Sui, who was in the dormitory, also heard it.

"Yu Li, are you really sure?"

Yu Li nodded: "Mm."

Yan Sui leaned back in his chair and said, "Originally, I was planning to have the eldest and third brothers escort you to get an IV drip if you were still feeling unwell, to ensure you could pass the written exam tomorrow."

Yu Li chuckled, casually picked up a piece of dried strawberry and put it in her mouth to suppress the feeling of nausea.

"I'm sorry to have worried you. I'm much better now."

Yan Sui: "That's good."

After he finished speaking, he sighed dejectedly and murmured, "I really envy you, knowing what you should do..."

Yu Li didn't hear clearly and turned her head in confusion, only to see Yan Sui with his eyes closed, shaking his head and humming a song softly.

...

These past two days, Yu Li has been receiving calls from food delivery drivers around mealtimes.

Those takeout meals were all light dishes, accompanied by a serving of sweet and sour fruit or dried fruit.

Most takeout meals are quite oily and salty. Even dishes that look very bland on the surface will taste quite a bit of seasoning if you taste them carefully.

However, the dishes Yan Shiting ordered did not have such strong seasoning flavors, and the meat was not fishy at all.

Eating this kind of food greatly reduced Yu Li's morning sickness.

Two days later, the National Day holiday will arrive.

Yan Sui went home the afternoon before National Day, leaving only Yu Li, Liu Cong, and Xu Bin in the dormitory.

During dinner, Yu Li received a takeout order as usual.

He went downstairs to get the takeout and came back. Just as he sat down at the table, he heard Xu Bin say casually, "Si'er, you've been ordering takeout these past two days. Aren't you saving money?"

As Liu Cong packed his luggage, he said, "How much will it cost to order takeout for two days? Don't worry about it."

Yu Li paused, her movements slowing as she untied the takeout bag.

He also realized something was amiss at that moment.

Yan Shiting had meals delivered to him every day. After a while, people would definitely become suspicious, since this was different from his usual style.

In the past, he would go to the cafeteria whenever he could, and he wouldn't spend money extravagantly.

If he orders takeout for several days in a row, something that would be normal for others, it would seem a bit abnormal for him.

Yu Li pursed her lips and unconsciously tightened her grip on the takeout bag.

"My luggage is packed, third brother, what about yours?"

Xu Bin slung his bag over his shoulder, nodded, and said, "All packed. Shall we go now?"

The two of them were also going home, and both had booked train tickets for tonight.

"Let's go, let's go. Let's have dinner at the station, or we can have dinner at school and then go to the station."

Liu Cong patted Xu Bin on the shoulder, and before leaving, he turned to Yu Li and said, "Si'er, we're leaving. See you in seven days."

Yu Li snapped out of her daze, smiled at the two of them, and said, "Goodbye, have a safe journey."

After the two left, the dormitory became quiet.

Troubled by her earlier thoughts, Yu Li lost her appetite.

He ate some grapes, sat in the dormitory for a while, and then went to the laundry room to do his laundry.

The weather has been quite hot these past few days, and people are wearing light clothing, so Yu Li didn't use the washing machine. Instead, she took a basin and found a tap to hand-wash the clothes.

Not long after washing, Yu Li felt nauseous again.

He stopped what he was doing, his face pale, and walked to the trash can. He bent over but couldn't vomit anything. Instead, he felt so uncomfortable that he forced out tears.

Another student came into the laundry room; he was in the same major as Yu Li.

Seeing Yu Li's appearance, the classmate hesitated for a moment and asked, "Yu Li, are you alright?"

Yu Li was startled and turned to look.

He then shook his head and said, "I'm fine."

He straightened up, walked to the basin, quickly washed the clothes, and just as he finished hanging them up, his lower back started to ache again.

Yu Li rubbed her lower back and picked up a basin of water to go back to the dormitory, but then she heard the classmate from earlier say, "I've seen you vomiting in the toilet every morning for the past two days. Is your stomach not feeling well?"

He chuckled after he finished speaking and said, "With the way you're making noise, anyone who didn't know better would think you're pregnant. My sister was like that when she was pregnant, feeling nauseous and vomiting first thing in the morning."

Yu Li suddenly stood still.

His face turned deathly pale, his eyes widened in terror, and his hand, which was rubbing his waist, froze completely.

My heart was pounding so hard I could hardly contain myself, and my hands started to tremble.

The classmate didn't hear Yu Li's reply, turned his head and saw that Yu Li had her brows tightly furrowed and her expression was not good.

He quickly apologized, "Oh, I'm sorry, how could a man get pregnant? I shouldn't have made that kind of joke."

Yu Li gripped the hem of her T-shirt tightly. "It's okay."

After he finished speaking, he quickly left with the basin in his hand.

From the laundry room to the dormitory, a distance of only a few dozen meters, Yu Li's breathing tightened with each person she passed.

He couldn't help but speed up, and only after returning to his dormitory and closing the door did he breathe a sigh of relief and take a few deep breaths.

Yu Li originally thought that as long as she didn't reveal her morning sickness to her roommates whom she lived with day and night, it would be fine, so whenever she couldn't hold it in any longer, she would go to the public restroom on her floor.

It's quite dirty there, and not many people usually go there.

Unexpectedly, someone still found out, and even speculated that she was pregnant.

Although the person said it was just a joke, Yu Li couldn't help but wonder if, over time, his roommates, who had the most contact with him, would also think so?

His meals were bland, he often ate sweet and sour fruits and dried fruits, and he also suffered from nausea and vomiting during pregnancy...

If his roommates also ask him, "Are you pregnant?", how should he respond?

He's not good at acting or lying, so he definitely won't be able to hide it.

Yu Li gritted her teeth and sat down in a chair in a daze, her eyes gradually reddening.

He took out his phone, and before he knew it, he had already opened his chat with Yan Shiting.

Yu Li recalled the calm expression on Yan Shiting's face the day she found out she was pregnant.

He dared not think about how others would react when they found out a man was pregnant, but he had already seen Yan Shiting's reaction.

Moreover, those behaviors made him feel at ease.

Before she knew it, a WeChat call to Yan Shiting had been made on her phone screen and was quickly answered.

A cold, detached voice came through the receiver: "Yu Li."
