Chapter 30

Chapter 30

Thanks to venting her feelings, Yu Li's worries disappeared, and she slept very well.

The next day was a nice sunny day.

Yu Li packed her things and got into the car with Yan Shiting.

The car drove through most of the county, passing the neighborhood where Yu Li lived, the school he used to attend, Yu Xin's school, and the clothing factory where his mother worked.

Only after leaving the county town did Yu Li turn her gaze away from the window.

He turned his head and glanced at Yan Shiting discreetly.

When he came back this time, Yan Shiting helped him understand Wang Jianfeng a lot, but he still did it secretly and didn't dare let his family see Yan Shiting.

Yu Li gently touched her belly, her gaze resolute.

The next time I see my family, the baby will probably be born. Then, I'll bring the baby's other father along to meet my mother and the rest of the family.

...

It was noon when we got back to Y City.

After taking Yu Li to that private restaurant for lunch, Yan Shiting took him back to school.

The dormitory was quiet; the roommates seemed to be taking a nap.

Yu Li quietly climbed into bed and dozed off for a while.

Yu Li didn't know how long he had slept; he didn't even feel like he had fallen asleep when he was woken up by a slight noise.

"Are you crazy? This is obviously fake..."

Yu Li pressed her throbbing temples, then pulled back the bed curtains and peeked out.

He saw Liu Cong pulling Xu Bin along, and exclaimed in shock, "You actually believe this stuff!"

He had just finished speaking when he caught a glimpse of Yu Li peeking out from the corner of his eye.

Liu Cong was startled and asked, "Si'er, when did you get back?"

Xu Bin looked at Yu Li in surprise, "Si'er, you're back."

Yu Li rubbed her eyes and asked, "What were you arguing about just now?"

Liu Cong glanced at Xu Bin, then said, "It's nothing."

He changed the subject: "Si'er, where have you been these past few days? You didn't even mention it in the group chat."

Yu Li climbed out of bed and said, "I went home."

"I was in a bit of a rush and didn't have time to tell you, I'm sorry to have made you worry."

"Oh, it's alright, it's good that things are resolved." Liu Cong nodded.

He slung his backpack over his shoulder, gave Xu Bin a warning glare, and said, "I'm going to study in the study room outside. Do you want me to bring your lunch back for you?"

Xu Bin shrugged nonchalantly, sat back down, and said, "No need, I'll go out for dinner this afternoon."

Liu Cong then looked at Yu Li: "Si'er, what about you?"

Yu Li was woken up from her afternoon nap and is still feeling weak and disoriented.

He looked at Liu Cong dazedly and shook his head: "I'll order takeout."

As soon as he finished speaking, Xu Bin chuckled lightly, his expression ambiguous.

Yu Li looked over in confusion.

Was that sound just my imagination?

Liu Cong quickly nudged Xu Bin's shoulder and said with a smile, "Okay, then I'll be back later."

After he left, the dormitory returned to silence.

Yu Li looked at Xu Bin, opened her mouth, but still didn't ask the question that was on her mind.

His relationship with Xu Bin was only so-so. If the other party really had any dissatisfaction with him, why bother to ask clearly and make things awkward for each other?

Anyway, he'll be moving out soon.

Three months later, as the baby grows bigger, the pregnancy will become more noticeable, and he can't stay in the dormitory forever.

At that time, I will live with Yan Shiting.

Thinking of this, Yu Li paused slightly, her thoughts drifting away.

He was lost in his own thoughts and didn't notice Xu Bin's occasional glances.

-

When it was time for dinner, Yan Sui returned to his dormitory.

He seemed to be in a bad mood. He didn't say a word after returning, and after quickly washing up, he climbed into bed and lay down.

Yu Li glanced back at Yan Sui's bed.

He had initially thought that Yan Sui had gone out to study today, but now it seemed that wasn't the case.

Yu Li thought about it and realized that ever since Yan Sui said "I don't really want to go" before the short holiday, he hadn't studied as diligently as he had at the beginning of the semester.

During the period following the short holiday, Yan Sui spent all his time in his dormitory playing games, sometimes until late at night, and then slept until noon the next day.

Although Yan Sui wasn't exactly a diligent student in the first three years, his current state of dejection is truly unusual.

What on earth is going on?

Yu Li was somewhat worried.

He took out his phone and sent Yan Sui a WeChat message: 【Have you had dinner yet?】

Yan Sui did not reply.

He had just lain down on the bed, so he probably wasn't asleep.

It seems she really has something on her mind.

Yu Li lowered her eyes, opened the chat page with Yan Shiting, and briefly told him about Yan Sui's recent situation.

Yan Shiting cares most about his younger brother and should be able to resolve Yan Sui's matter.

A few seconds later, Yan Shiting replied: "I understand."

Yu Li was finally relieved.

After dinner, Yu Li rested for a while, took a shower, and then carried her dirty coat to the laundry room.

The washing machine is in use, but it shows that it will finish in three minutes.

Yu Li carried the basin to a corner to wait, her back to the door, looking out at the night sky.

Y University's main campus is located in the suburbs, where you can clearly see the stars on clear nights.

Yu Li was idly counting stars when she suddenly heard a familiar voice:

"I heard that Yan Sui hasn't been going to the library to study lately?"

It's Lin Jiafan.

Yu Li was taken aback and turned slightly to look.

It's unclear whether Lin Jiafan and his two classmates were too engrossed in their conversation, but they didn't see him at all and continued chatting amongst themselves.

"He was only serious around the beginning of the semester."

"Hilarious! I thought they were like us, but they've already shown their laziness in less than a month."

“How could they really be like us? Others study hard to take the postgraduate entrance exam to experience life, while we have to take the postgraduate entrance exam to improve our education and find a job so that we can have a better life in the future.”

Lin Jiafan leaned against the wall and scoffed at this, saying, "Yan Sui was just born into a good family. No matter how much he slacks off, someone will always bail him out."

He sighed and said, "We're not so lucky."

After Lin Jiafan finished speaking, he turned around and found Yu Li standing in the corner.

He was taken aback at first, then winked at the two classmates beside him and walked towards Yu Li.

One of the classmates said, "Hey, isn't this Yan Sui's little follower?"

Lin Jiafan chuckled: "'Little follower' is a nice way of putting it. To put it bluntly, isn't he just Yan Sui's dog?"

He glanced at the basin of dirty clothes in Yu Li's hand and said sarcastically, "Is the young master's dog here to wash the young master's clothes again?"

Yu Li frowned, her grip on the edge of the basin tightening.

During his freshman year, he had a lot of classes and before he could find a part-time job, he earned money by running errands and picking up packages for others.

After Yan Sui found out, he would always ask Yan Sui to do small things for him, and then force him to pay several times the amount for running errands.

Unable to refuse, Yu Li had no choice but to repay in other ways.

—Yan Sui came from a wealthy family and did not know how to wash his own clothes or shoes. He usually had his housekeeper bring his clothes and shoes home from school to be washed.

When Yu Li found out, she washed Yan Sui's clothes as well, as a way of repaying him for running errands several times over.

He knew that Yan Sui's clothes and shoes were very expensive, so he even went online to look up how to wash them.

Lin Jiafan once caught him doing this, and when he got back, he exaggerated the story, and soon all the classmates knew that he had become Yan Sui's servant in order to "curry favor" with Yan Sui.

Yu Li gritted her teeth and said, "Do you want to be warned again?"

Lin Jiafan told the counselor about spreading rumors. The counselor gave Lin Jiafan a serious warning and even held a class meeting to remind other students not to spread rumors and cause trouble that would affect the school's atmosphere.

Therefore, Lin Jiafan behaved himself for the past three years, only daring to secretly grumble behind people's backs.

Hearing Yu Li say this, Lin Jiafan clearly thought of that matter as well.

He choked slightly, then said disdainfully, "I only called you a dog, I didn't bully you. Even if you go to the counselor to complain, without any evidence, what will she say?"

He had barely finished speaking when a figure suddenly rushed in from outside.

Yu Li's face paled as she realized it was Yan Sui.

Yan Sui stood in front of Lin Jiafan and asked, "Try saying that again?"

Lin Jiafan and the other two were taken aback, never expecting Yan Sui to appear in the laundry room.

One of the students immediately became a little timid and said dryly, "Yan Sui, I didn't say anything to Yu Li."

Upon hearing this, Lin Jiafan glared fiercely at the classmate, "You didn't say anything about Yu Li, but didn't you just say that Yan Sui was taking the postgraduate entrance exam to experience life?"

The man paused, opened his mouth, but said nothing, then turned and ran away.

Seeing this, the other person also quickly slipped away.

"You guys!" Lin Jiafan was furious, but Yan Sui blocked her way, so she couldn't leave.

Yan Sui said coldly, "I'll settle accounts with them about my matter later, but you can't just let it go like this for insulting Yu Li."

Lin Jiafan clenched his fist, glancing at Yan Sui for a moment, then at Yu Li.

He pointed his finger at Yan Sui's nose and, in a fit of desperation, shouted, "So what if I curse him?! I'll curse you too! What are you capable of, Yan Sui? You're just relying on having a powerful brother!"

"If it weren't for your brother, what would you be?!"

"You're so inconsistent with your graduate school entrance exam preparation, no wonder your brother won't let you join the company. Someone like you will always have to have your brother clean up your messes!"

He became more and more agitated as he spoke, and even pushed Yan Sui.

Yan Sui could no longer hold back and stepped forward to grab his collar.

"Lin Jiafan, I've put up with you for too long. Do you think I don't know what you've been saying behind my back?!"

After he finished speaking, he punched Lin Jiafan in the face.

Not to be outdone, Lin Jiafan immediately retaliated with a punch.

Yu Li was so startled that she dropped the basin in her hand to the ground.

"Yan Sui! Lin Jiafan! This is in the dormitory, don't fight!" He hurriedly stepped forward to try to pull Yan Sui away and block Lin Jiafan, but was pushed away by the two of them.

Yu Li bumped into the wall, and her left arm felt a little numb.

He gritted his teeth, stepped forward, grabbed Yan Sui's arm, and pulled him back, thus dodging Lin Jiafan's punch.

"Calm down! Do you want the counselor to come over so late at night?!"

Yan Sui paused in his attempt to rush forward.

Lin Jiafan also stopped what he was doing.

After a long pause, Yan Sui sneered, "So what if the counselor is here? He attacked first!"

Upon hearing this, Lin Jiafan immediately tried to step forward again: "I only pushed you, you hit me first!"

Seeing that the two were about to fight again, Yu Li looked anxious and had no choice but to hold Yan Sui tightly and block him in front of him.

Just then, an angry shout came from outside the laundry room: "Enough!"

All three of them were startled and turned around to see their academic advisor.

The counselor, clearly having run all the way here, was still panting: "Well, you two, you're seniors and still can't settle down, fighting each other in the dorm!"

"Do you want to get a major demerit before graduation?!"

Yan Sui protested, "Teacher, he insulted us first..."

The counselor interrupted him: "Don't talk. I already called your brother on the way here. He'll be here soon!"

Then, she looked at Lin Jiafan and said, "I've warned you several times already, tell you not to gossip about other people anymore!"

Lin Jiafan snorted and turned her head away.

The counselor then called out two students from behind him and said, "Come on, tell me everything that happened tonight."

Those two classmates were the ones who were talking behind Lin Jiafan earlier.

The two quickly gave a brief account of what had just happened, emphasizing, "Advisor, we really didn't swear or participate in the fight."

"Yes, yes, we didn't fight."

The counselor finally looked at Yu Li and asked, "Is the process as they described?"

Yu Li pursed her lips and nodded.

The counselor rubbed his temples: "Alright, Yan Sui and Lin Jiafan, you two come to my office."

Yan Sui was the first to walk out of the laundry room.

Lin Jiafan hesitated for a few moments before taking a step to follow.

Since the counselor has arrived, it means that Yu Li's matter is no longer involved.

But after thinking about it, Yu Li decided to follow the others.

...

Outside the counselor's office, Yu Li nervously rubbed her left arm.

He heard footsteps and turned around to see Yan Shiting and Butler He coming upstairs.

Butler He was slightly taken aback when he saw him.

Yan Shiting glanced at him briefly, then told Butler He to stay outside and knocked on the door to enter the office.

Butler He looked at Yu Li's left arm and asked, "Little Yu, were you in a fight too?"

Yu Li shook her head: "No."

He paused, then asked, "Uncle He, will Yan Sui and the others be punished?"

Butler He reassured them, "It shouldn't be like that, we'll just wait a bit."

Yu Li nodded and said nothing more.

A few minutes later, the office door opened, and only Lin Jiafan came out.

He glanced at Yu Li and then quickly ran away.

Twenty minutes later, the office door opened, and Yan Sui and the others came out one after another.

Yan Sui walked to Steward He's side with his head down.

Yan Shiting followed two steps behind, shook hands with the counselor, and said, "Thank you for your help."

The counselor said, "Mr. Yan, you're too kind. It's nothing serious. The two students showed a good attitude in admitting their mistakes, and once they've written their self-criticisms, everything will be fine."

Yan Shiting nodded, turned to look at Yan Sui, and said, "Let's go."

The four of them went downstairs in silence.

It was completely dark, and there were only a few streetlights near the teaching building.

Walking along the path leading to the school gate, Butler He said, "Young Master, you really scared us today."

"Why did you get into a fight? Are you hurt?"

He spoke to Yan Sui as if he were coaxing a child, which made Yan Sui feel a little awkward: "Uncle He, I'm fine."

"That person... he said some bad things, I didn't want to listen, so I fought with him."

Butler He paused for a moment: "What... what bad things did he say?"

Yan Shiting, who was walking at the front, stopped and turned around, saying, "No matter what he said, you shouldn't act impulsively."

Yan Sui paused and looked at Yan Shiting.

"But he said I was inconsistent in my preparation for the postgraduate entrance exam, and that I always made you wipe my butt."

Yan Shiting frowned: "Hitting someone doesn't prove your ability. You hit someone, and I came. Isn't that just as they say?"

Yan Sui frowned, his eyes filled with confusion, and asked, "So you really think I'm always bothering you?"

"You also think I'm a burden, right? You also think I can't do anything right? You throw parties, and then that kind of thing happens at the party. You wanted to take the postgraduate entrance exam, but you gave up halfway through."

"Yes, I'm a piece of trash."

Yan Shiting tightened his lips and stepped forward: "Yan Sui, I don't..."

Yan Sui's body was trembling, and he said on the verge of collapse, "But why do you never comfort me, but only tell me not to act impulsively and to analyze things?"

"Do you know why I want to take the postgraduate entrance exam? Do you know how I felt when they said I wasn't as good as you?"

After he roared, all around him fell silent.

Yu Li stared wide-eyed at Yan Sui in disbelief.

He murmured, "Yan Sui..."

After a while, Yan Sui seemed to calm down.

He looked at Yan Shiting, who had a serious expression, clenched his fist, and murmured a few words.

In the end, he said nothing, turned around, and ran away.
