Chapter 5 How do you want to torture them?
"What do you want to do?"
The commissar's wife looked at her warily.
Song Yunqing came closer and she took a step back.
The closer they get, the tighter they get.
"you..."
Suddenly, Song Yunqing picked up the small paper box of melon seeds and asked, "Don't you want the melon seeds anymore?"
The political commissar's wife was stunned for a moment, but for some reason she suddenly felt relieved.
"No, no, no."
The melon seeds have been grabbed by Song Yunqing. How can she ask for more? Will she be ridiculed by her for not being able to afford melon seeds?
Watching the political commissar's wife leave, Song Yunqing looked at the melon seeds in his hand. It must be said that these melon seeds were really delicious.
After returning home, Song Yunqing carefully counted the things in the space.
In addition to those rare medicines, there are also many foods that are easy to store, such as the imported candies that Wang Xiulan gave her, which are considered inferior in the Song family. There are several boxes of high-quality chocolates and fruit candies.
Canned goods, clothing, gold...
She sorted them into categories and filled the small shelf in no time.
When she came to her senses, it was almost evening. In about an hour, Xiao Jinchuan would be back from training.
Song Yunqing came to the kitchen and saw two cucumbers on the stove and a small piece of bacon hanging in the corner. It was brought by Xiao Jinchuan's parents when they got married.
She remembered what those people said.
"Capitalist ladies know how to enjoy life. You've wasted all of Captain Xiao's allowance."
Song Yunqing took a deep breath and suddenly rolled up her sleeves in a huff: "Okay, I'll be a 'virtuous military wife' today!"
She did it right away. She first smashed the cucumber with a knife, then chopped a few cloves of garlic, poured hot oil on it, and with a "sizzling" sound, a strong garlic aroma came out.
In this era, the seasonings at home are limited, so you can just add some salt and chili pepper, and add two drops of vinegar, and a simple smashed cucumber is ready.
When bacon is paired with fresh garlic sprouts, the aroma comes out instantly.
Song Yunqing brought the dishes to the table and heated up two steamed buns.
Xiao Jinchuan would bring some food when he came back, but the food in the cafeteria didn’t taste good, and at best it was enough to fill your stomach.
Thinking that she was considered a half-gourmet in the 21st century, she would surely amaze Xiao Jinchuan with just a few shows of her skills.
Song Yunqing sat at the table expectantly, watching the sun slowly sink behind the mountain. The golden sunlight shone into the house, illuminating the room.
I waited until the bacon and garlic sprouts gradually lost their heat and the steamed buns started to harden, but no one came back.
Song Yunqing looked out the door for the umpteenth time: "Isn't get off work supposed to end at six? It's almost seven now."
She pricked up her ears and heard the laughter of her comrades outside the door, but there was no sound of footsteps stopping in front of the door.
Song Yunqing was bored and was holding the corner of the table. He could only put the steamed buns back into the pot which was still warm, so that the remaining heat could maintain the temperature.
Another ten minutes passed, and Song Yunqing consoled himself mentally: "The training must have been delayed."
Another half an hour passed, and Song Yunqing became a little restless. It was almost dark outside and there was still no one around.
"Don't let anything happen!"
Song Yunqing put the vegetables in a small bag and prepared to go out to see what was going on.
He walked a little too fast and just as he reached the door, he bumped into a slightly hard chest. The pain made Song Yunqing take two steps back.
The physical pain filled her eyes with tears.
Xiao Jinchuan subconsciously reached out to help: "Why are you in such a hurry to go?"
Song Yunqing was already waiting anxiously, and after hearing these words, he felt even more aggrieved.
"It's because you haven't come back yet and there's no word from me. I thought something happened to you and decided to go out and check."
Xiao Jinchuan put down his hat, with beads of sweat on his face. He felt a little embarrassed when he saw Song Yunqing rubbing his nose.
"We have a last-minute training session tonight. Didn't I ask Zhang Wenjie to deliver a message for me? No need to wait for me, just eat first..."
Xiao Jinchuan was halfway through his words when he saw the untouched dishes on the table and swallowed the rest of his words.
"You haven't eaten yet?"
Song Yunqing was sulking and ignored him. She walked to the stove, took out the warm steamed buns, and placed them on the table.
Zhang Wenjie is Mrs. Liu's husband. He just had a quarrel with Mrs. Liu this afternoon. It would be strange if he could tell me.
As if he could see that Song Yunqing was unhappy, Xiao Jinchuan realized belatedly that something was wrong.
He started walking outside, but Song Yunqing quickly stopped him: "Where are you going?"
"I'll go find out."
Song Yunqing quickly ran to the door and blocked it: "What's there to ask? Zhang Wenjie is your good brother, he's honest and kind, I just had a fight with Mrs. Liu this afternoon, she probably holds a grudge and deliberately didn't tell me."
Xiao Jinchuan was silent for a while.
"Have you got a meal yet?"
He looked at the cold dishes on the table and said, "Eat it."
"That's perfect. Come eat some more with me."
Xiao Jinchuan was a little confused: "I have eaten."
Didn’t he explain it clearly just now? Why did he ask me to eat?
Song Yunqing stuffed the chopsticks into his hand without saying anything: "But I haven't eaten yet."
Her deer-like eyes stared at him, and that look made it impossible for him to say no.
"I..."
"I'm very hungry. I've been waiting for you for three hours, and you bumped into me. I can't eat alone. I have no appetite..."
Before Song Yunqing finished speaking, Xiao Jinchuan sat down and said, "Eat."
After hearing the answer he wanted, Song Yunqing forced a smile and picked up a piece of meat and put it into the bowl in front of him.
With an expectant look in his eyes: "Try it quickly, how does it taste?"
Xiao Jinchuan stared at the piece of meat and didn't say anything for a long time.
"I didn't poison you."
Xiao Jinchuan: "I know, but you put half a bag of salt in your cooking last time..."
Song Yunqing: "I really don't have it this time. Come and try it. If you like it, I will cook for you every day in the future."
Xiao Jinchuan then slowly put it into his mouth. It tasted surprisingly good, with the salty aroma of bacon and the flavor of garlic sprouts blending perfectly.
"You don't have to do this anymore. There's food in the cafeteria."
Song Yunqing's smile froze. What did this mean? It wasn't tasty?
She picked up another piece and put it in her mouth. It was delicious.
However, seeing that Xiao Jinchuan didn't want to say more, Song Yunqing didn't bother asking any more questions.
"Should we take Mom and Dad with us when we go to the island this time?"
Xiao Jinchuan paused his chopsticks, as if he didn't realize who the parents were talking about.
Song Yunqing quickly added, "They are old now, and they definitely want to be with their children. Let's take them to the island. Although the environment may not be as good as the compound, they will definitely be very happy with us around."
After she finished speaking, she looked at Xiao Jinchuan's expression carefully.
What's wrong? Did she say something wrong?
Just as Song Yunqing was about to ask, Xiao Jinchuan spoke up: "How do you want to torment them again?"
Song Yunqing was stunned, remembering how the original owner had disliked the two elders before.
When they met for the first time, the old man took a train for more than ten hours, bringing a live chicken, homemade pickles, local eggs, and bacon. He traveled several times before arriving at the compound, just to give his daughter-in-law a gift.
Unexpectedly, Song Yunqing pinched his nose and whispered, "Could this chicken have bird flu? They're not allowed to raise chickens in the city."
When eating, the two elders brought their own chopsticks. Although they heard that their daughter-in-law was a particular person, Song Yunqing still secretly boiled the chopsticks several times. When his mother saw it, he explained awkwardly that there were many flus recently and they should pay attention to hygiene.
During the day, the two elders wanted to go out and see where their son lived, but Song Yunqing said that the air outside was bad and that they should go out less as they were old.
In fact, they are just afraid that others will see that their parents-in-law are country people who know nothing.
What really broke down this relationship was the arrival of Wang Xiulan.
Song Yunqing and Wang Xiulan were dressed in fancy clothes, which was out of place with the shabby appearance of the house.
Wang Xiulan asked curiously who these two were. The original owner, out of vanity, said that they were Xiao Jinchuan's country relatives who came to visit.
As luck would have it, these words were heard by Xiao Jinchuan who had just returned. His face immediately darkened and he took his parents into the inner room.
When he came out again, his face was ashen. He walked up to Song Yunqing and whispered through gritted teeth, "They are my parents, and also your parents-in-law!"
Unexpectedly, Song Yunqing snorted coldly, looking down on them: "They are your parents, yes, but they are not qualified to be my parents-in-law."
"You can look down on me, but you have no right to look down on my parents."
Song Yunqing, perhaps feeling that Xiao Jinchuan had embarrassed her in front of Wang Xiulan, immediately became angry and shouted at the top of her voice, "Am I wrong? They weren't meant to be here in the first place. If you think I'm going too far, you shouldn't have looked for a girl from the city in the first place!"
Xiao Jinchuan's chest heaved violently with anger, and his ferocious look frightened Song Yunqing.
The next morning, the two old men disappeared. After asking the security guard, we found out that they had bought the earliest train back home and left only a message.
The wheat at home is ripe. Let them live a good life and I will visit them again when I have time.
The people left, leaving only a room full of gifts.
Thinking of this, both of them were silent, mainly because Song Yunqing was embarrassed.
Now she is Song Yunqing, and Song Yunqing is her, and all the ugly things that happened in the past are blamed on her.
She has to accept everything, good or bad.
However, Xiao Jinchuan's personality is really good. The original owner was able to keep the engagement and not divorce by doing this.
"Forget it. Even though we're in the countryside, at least no one will give them any attention."
Song Yunqing's face felt a little hot. This "some people" was referring to her, right?
"If I told you that I was blinded by greed, would you believe me?"
Xiao Jinchuan sneered, obviously not believing this statement.
"Believe it or not, I've changed my mind now. Our trip to the island doesn't necessarily last long, but it won't be so easy to meet up next time. You should apply and bring your parents along. Nothing is more important than a happy family reunion."
Xiao Jinchuan didn't say anything.
"Besides, if the elderly are feeling unwell at their age, it would be very dangerous for us, their children, to be away from them."
Song Yunqing stopped talking at that point, but he didn't expect that this sentence would make Xiao Jinchuan's face change completely.
