Chapter 562 Mastering Negative Distance
Although Wen Ni and Qin Yuan both specially adjusted and changed their facial features to match the photos on their ID cards.
But she still couldn't be 100% certain that the resemblance wouldn't be noticed! Especially by unidentified individuals carrying wanted posters...
"Deputy Manager, my stomach is suddenly hurting so badly I can't take it anymore!" Wen Ni immediately bent over, took a few steps back with a pained expression, and handed the food cart to Wu Ang. "Deputy Manager, could you please keep an eye on things for me? I can't take it anymore, I really can't!"
"Huh? No way? So sudden?"
The assistant manager was still in a daze when the food cart was already in their hands.
Wen Ni turned away without looking back and headed straight for the toilet in the next carriage.
The passenger who was taking out his fare looked up at the sound, and seeing Wen Ni's pained and conflicted profile and her hurried back, he couldn't help but stare at her curiously for a while longer...
"Sir, sir?"
"Oh, here you go, forty dollars."
"OK, thanks."
Wu Ang pushed the food cart forward to the next carriage and continued hawking his wares.
This was originally a return trip, and there were only a few carriages left to sell tickets. By the time Wen Ni came out of the restroom, the sale was over. Only Deputy Manager Wu Ang stood with his arms crossed, waiting at the restroom door, looking rather impatient.
"Deputy Manager."
"A stomachache? Or are you just being lazy and trying to shirk your responsibilities?" Wu Ang tilted his head and looked at her, pointing to his watch with obvious displeasure. "Why don't you stay here for another three hours and wait for the train to arrive before you come out?"
"Deputy Manager, I do have a stomachache."
"Alright, stop lying to me. Laziness is laziness, don't give me all those excuses. Come with me to the work area! I have to give you a good talking to!"
Wu Ang, all high and mighty, interrupted Wen Ni's explanation. Then he turned and headed towards the temporary workroom on the other side.
The flight attendants passing by couldn't help but cast pitiful glances at Wen Ni.
Wen Ni ignored them, her eyes flashing coldly, and followed them!
The entire workspace is less than 2 square meters.
There is a wall-mounted work desk and a chair inside.
Clearly, this is only suitable for one staff member to stay in alone.
"Come in, and close the door."
"close the door?"
Wen Ni repeated it again.
In such a cramped space, if the door were closed, wouldn't the two of them be standing face to face?
“Yes, do you have any objections?” Wu Ang's hand rested on his belt, his eyes darkening. “The manager specifically instructed me this morning to learn more about your situation and get closer to you. Sanda, after talking to you today, I know it's difficult for you as a young woman, especially in these times. Without a man to protect you, it's incredibly tough to get by…”
"So what? Is Deputy Manager Wu Ang planning to become my backer?" Wen Ni was still standing by the door; she didn't go in, nor did she close the door.
The two connecting carriages were mostly empty, and their conversation was quiet, so it didn't attract the attention of others for the time being.
"If you're willing, I'm happy to be your backer, no problem." Deputy Manager Wu Ang raised an eyebrow, lowered his voice, and spoke in a suggestive tone, "As long as you make the right choice, you'll become the closest person to me here, Sanda. I'm really looking forward to getting closer to you... you know, preferably in the negative sense!"
As he spoke, he became the sleazy old man he always was. He even reached out and put his hand on Wen Ni's arm.
"Can."
Wen Ni's eyes darkened, but she raised the corners of her lips, revealing a sufficiently hypocritical yet alluring smile.
She stepped inside, closing the door behind her, and said in a flippant tone, "I wonder if the assistant manager is ready? I can't wait!"
"Oh my? Come on, little one!" Wu Ang exclaimed excitedly, gesturing wildly.
The door slammed shut and locked, and the light went out.
"Crackling and banging!"
"Negative distance, huh? If I punch you right in the eye socket, that counts as negative distance, right? You like it so much, I'll give you a few more punches, you're welcome!"
"No! Ah! Ah!"
Two minutes later
The door to the workspace clicked open from the inside.
Wen Ni walked out with a smile, looking confident and neat. She patted the dust off with her hands, held her head high, and strode away with a carefree air!
In the workroom behind her
Deputy Manager Wu Ang slumped to the ground, his eyes glazed over, his cheeks flushed, his eyes rimmed with dark circles, and a work manual was perched on his head!
He opened his mouth tremblingly, and a large tooth popped out.
"Sang!...Da!!"
"..."
"Miss Wen Ni, is everything alright?"
Back in the dining car kitchen, Qin Yuan noticed that Wen Ni was in a good mood, so he couldn't help but ask her a question out of curiosity.
"I'm fine, but Wu Ang is in trouble."
"Wu Ang is in trouble? Did you beat him up?!" Qin Yuan knew Wen Ni all too well. He looked around, grabbed Wen Ni's sleeve, and asked, "You didn't kill him, did you?"
"No."
"That's good. But what did he do? Did he make you angry? Although he deserves a beating, what if he complains to the manager and gets us fired? After all, we are..."
"Don't worry, he wouldn't dare! Would I be unprepared before making a move?" Wen Ni raised her eyebrows, revealing a memory card in her palm, indicating that everything was under control. "The whole story is in this work record card. I'm threatening Wu Ang that as long as he wants to keep his job and family, he should pretend nothing happened. Otherwise, I might post it online and to his wife and children."
"Brilliant! You actually had a backup plan." Qin Yuan gave a thumbs up, then thought, "He'll definitely hold a grudge against you and make things difficult for you later."
Wen Ni shrugged, seemingly unconcerned. "We can't hide here forever. If that happens, we'll have already found a way to leave. Besides, I just saw someone with a wanted poster in the carriage. It's probably not safe here!"
"What? They found us way too fast!" Qin Yuan's expression turned serious.
“This is their territory after all. We need to find a way to make contact with the Chinese army as soon as possible.” Wen Ni pondered for a moment. “The Tongguang battlefield isn’t too far from Mandegan. Let’s find an opportunity…”
He had only spoken halfway when a commotion suddenly came from the front of the food cart.
Wen Ni stopped talking, lifted the curtain and saw that Wu Ang, who had been beaten black and blue, had come back!
"Deputy Manager? What's wrong?"
"Did you get into a fight with the passengers?"
"What's going on?"
The flight attendants were all shocked when they saw Wu Ang.
"N-nothing, I just went down for a smoke at the stop. It was too dark when I came back, I lost my footing and slammed the door shut." Wu Ang waved his hand and grabbed a towel. His eyes swept hatefully over Wen Ni, then landed on Qin Yuan. "Jue Lun! Get me some ice!"
"Yes, Deputy Manager!"
Qin Yuan responded loudly, suppressing a laugh as he nodded to Wen Ni, then pointed to the boxed lunch behind him, "I heated it up for you, and added lots of meat. Eat up. We'll talk about the rest after we get off the bus."
"Um."
Wen Ni smiled slightly and watched him leave.
I picked up the boxed lunch and looked out the car window at the streetlights that occasionally appeared in the night. Even though I had no appetite, I had to swallow it.
After all, you never know what unexpected things might happen here every minute or second, so you need to have plenty of physical strength to cope!
