Chapter 645 The Tomb of an Old Friend, The Soul of an Old Friend

Chapter 645 The Tomb of an Old Friend, The Soul of an Old Friend

Tang Zi's expression turned cold, her cheeks still flushed from the alcohol. She swung her bag back, looking like she was saying, "Want to fight? I'm ready!"

"Wei Xinghe, stop joking, my friend will take it seriously." Wen Ni sat firmly in her chair, glanced helplessly at Wei Xinghe, and then reached out to pull Tang Zi back.

Tang Zi and the others looked puzzled. "A joke?"

“Yes, I’m not Wei’s type at all, and he’s not my type either. We’re just incompatible.” Wen Ni raised her glass and nodded at Wei Xinghe. “But we’d be good friends!”

"I also think that 'friends' is a more suitable way to describe our relationship."

Wei Xinghe laughed loudly, casually clinked his wine glass against Wen Ni's, and downed it in one gulp!

Only then did Tang Zi and the others feel relieved.

The tense atmosphere in the private room suddenly became relaxed and pleasant!

"By the way, how did you end up opening a restaurant?" Wen Ni asked.

"My brother takes care of the family business, and I have no interest in a grand seafaring career. I prefer doing business!"

Everyone has their own ambitions, and you can't force them.

"I wish my grandpa thought the same way I do!" Wei Xinghe waved his hand, looking distressed. "When he heard I was going to open a restaurant, he almost kicked me out of the house, cutting off my financial lifeline!"

"In the end, didn't the old man still compromise?" Tang Zi interjected quietly, pointing to the grandly decorated restaurant.

"That's right, after all, I'm his beloved grandson." Wei Xinghe chuckled, the wine in his glass swirling slightly.

"..."

As they chatted and drank, the night grew even darker.

Everyone was having a great time, and inevitably drank a bit too much. Tang Zi drank the most; her face was flushed red from the alcohol, making her even more alluring, with a few seductive red streaks between her eyebrows!

Wei Xinghe propped his head up with one hand, glancing over every now and then, seemingly lost in thought.

"Stop drinking."

Wen Ni had been keeping an eye on Tang Zi's situation, and when she saw Tang Zi about to pour more wine into her glass, she quickly stopped her!

Tang Zi raised her dazed eyes and forced a smile. "Wen Ni... just let me drink. If I get drunk and fall asleep, I won't think about him all the time!"

A very soft, almost pleading tone.

The "he" in this context naturally refers to Song Yanfeng.

Wen Ni realized that Tang Zi had been holding back her tears, and now she finally found an outlet for them.

A dull pain shot through her chest, and Wen Ni loosened her grip on the wine bottle, ultimately allowing Tang Zi to dodge it.

Wen Ni stood frozen in place, watching Tang Zi refill glass after glass of wine!

He clenched his fist, yet was powerless to stop it.

"Alright~" Wei Xinghe finally curled his lips, reverting to his playboy demeanor, and suddenly leaned in to hold Tang Zi's hand as she drank. "Miss Tang Zi, are you heartbroken?"

"Let me go." Tang Zi didn't even lift her eyelids.

"The best way to forget someone is to move on to the next relationship. Do you need me to sacrifice myself and help you?" Wei Xinghe didn't let go.

"No one can replace him, and no one can make me forget him. It's impossible in this lifetime."

Tang Zi's red, drunken eyes suddenly turned around.

The unusually serious look in her eyes made Wei Xinghe's heart skip a beat!

"He was the most foolish, the most innocent, and the kindest good person in the world. He saved many people in his short life, but unfortunately, no one could save him."

“You know what…” Tang Zi’s eyes darted around, then she suddenly grabbed Wei Xinghe’s collar and brought her nose close to his. “I’ve never been so humble…so lowly to like someone like this. I texted him and called him, but he wouldn’t reply. He told me, ‘I’m fine, but we’re not right for each other…’”

The dazed look in Wei Xinghe's eyes gradually faded, and he calmly let her act crazy while drunk, muttering the words hidden in her heart that she had nowhere to confide in.

"I sent him one last message, and then I secretly swore to myself that if he didn't reply, I would never take the initiative again. I, Tang Zi, will never talk to him again!"

"But...but..."

Tang Zi's hand, gripping Wei Xinghe's collar, trembled uncontrollably, and her eyes filled with tears!

"He really isn't talking to me anymore."

"No matter how many messages I send or how many words I say to him, he won't reply to me anymore. I can never find him again. I can never find him in this world again. Do you understand?"

Wei Xinghe's body swayed as she pulled him, and his handsome face, which always wore a joking expression, stopped smiling.

"I can't find him, I can't find him..." Tang Zi repeated over and over, then released Wei Xinghe, turned around, picked up the wine bottle, and drank heavily!

Wen Ni snatched the bottle of wine from Tang Zi and helped her up, saying, "You've had too much to drink. I'll take you home."

"I wasn't drunk, Wen Ni. I just missed him so much. Seeing you today, I couldn't help but think of Song Yanfeng again..." Tang Zi's body went limp, letting Wen Ni hold her. Her eyes were blurry with tears as she sobbed, "Wen Ni, tell me, when he sacrificed himself, did he think of me for even a second? Did he ever have the thought that he would live on for my sake?"

“He…” Wen Ni’s heart ached too much, and she remained silent for a moment.

She was not qualified to answer any of Tang Zi's questions on behalf of Song Yanfeng, so she chose to remain silent.

Lowering her head to hide the tears hidden beneath her eyelashes, Wen Ni hugged Tang Zi tightly. "Since you miss him, let's go back to see him. I'll go back with you to see him!"

"Go back to see him? Okay, let's go back to see him together..." Tang Zi's eyelashes trembled as she closed her eyes, her hand still tightly gripping Wen Ni's arm. "He'll be happy, he'll be so happy..."

The atmosphere in the private room was somber and sorrowful.

Wei Xinghe's collar was pulled loose as he stared intently at Tang Zi sleeping in Wen Ni's arms.

After a long while, he tilted his head back and downed the rest of the wine in his glass, then stood up and said calmly, "I'll send a car to take you back."

"good."

…………

Later, Wen Ni and Tang Zi went together to the martyrs' cemetery where Song Yanfeng rests in peace.

They brought a lot of food and alcohol.

The tomb is on the mountain.

Standing before the cold tombstone, one can see vast mountains, white clouds atop the peaks, and the rising sun in the blue sky.

“I always knew that he liked you. I just held onto a ridiculous hope that maybe he would like me too. Unfortunately, in the end he never gave me that chance.”

Tang Zi bent down and handed the bouquet to the monument. She smiled slightly, looking at the person in the black and white photograph.

"Song Yanfeng, you scoundrel! I told you not to date me, and now look what happened! You're all alone in the underworld now."

As she spoke and laughed, Tang Zi burst into tears.

Wen Ni lowered her head and put her arm around Tang Zi's trembling shoulders.

"Song Yanfeng! You bad guy!" Tang Zi cried even harder, and cried for a long, long time.

White clouds drift by, obscuring the dazzling sunlight.

The two sat side by side on the steps next to the tombstone, opened bottles of wine, and each held one bottle!

"I'm sure I'll find someone who loves me." Tang Zi glanced at the tombstone beside her in a defiant manner.

"Yes, I will." Wen Ni took a sip of wine, suppressing the bitterness in her heart.

"Ah, it feels so good to cry it out!" Tang Zi smiled faintly again, turning to look at Wen Ni. "What are your plans next? Are you going straight back to the army?"

“No.” Wen Ni shook her head, gazing at the distant mountains. “The team has retained my military status and rank. I will return to report after I finish my studies.”

"Are we going on another mission in between?" Tang Zi suddenly realized.

"Yes, if necessary."

"Oh~" Tang Zi nudged Wen Ni's shoulder. "How about we take some time to get married?"

Wen Ni smiled but didn't answer. She simply clinked the wine bottle that Tang Zi handed her, and the two of them tacitly took a sip each.

"Hey, hey, hey! What are you doing? This is a martyrs' cemetery! It's not a place for you to drink and chat!" The person who came was a staff member guarding the cemetery.
