Chapter 321 Dangers Follow One After Another
"Why are you asking about our family affairs? It's none of your business!" Brother Gang glanced at Wen Ni in a bad mood, then reached out and took the empty bowl in front of her. "Finished eating? Go back to sleep if you're done!"
"..."
Wen Ni blinked, stuffed the shrimp meat that had just been picked up into her mouth, and managed to fill her stomach.
She gazed thoughtfully at her brother's retreating figure as he washed the dishes.
Night deepened.
Maggie went to bed early.
Wen Ni helped tidy up the tables and chairs and was about to go back to her room to sleep when she was stopped by her brother, who was waiting at the door!
"Ying, come out, let's talk."
"Hmm? Okay."
The stars twinkled at night, facing the lights in front of the door.
My brother just walked over and plopped down on the threshold. He lit a cigarette and put it in his mouth. "Ying, there are some things I've wanted to say for days!"
"What did you say?"
“Ever since I carried you back from the beach, I’ve had nightmares almost every day!” Brother Gang said in a deep voice. “I can sense that you’re no ordinary person, and you’re certainly not an abandoned homeless person as you claim! I can overlook who you are, what your identity is, or what your purpose is! But I must tell you, if you dare to threaten or harm my sister in any way, I will not let you leave here alive!”
"You can blame it on me for having nightmares?" Wen Ni leaned against the door, shaking her head with a laugh, and said in a soft, sweet voice, "Brother, I'm really just a pitiful person. I just happened to fall into the sea and that's why you took me in. Besides, Maggie is so good to me, how could I possibly plot to hurt her?"
"You think you're a pitiful person? Ha!" The man took a deep drag on his cigarette, his eyes dark and ruthless. "Anyone else might believe it, but you can't fool me. I've been through the wringer myself; I can tell the difference between serious injury and drowning!"
"Licking blood from the edge of a knife? I never knew you had such a hidden past, brother!" Wen Ni covered her mouth in surprise, then sighed softly, "But brother, I really don't know what you're talking about. I only know that you saved me, and I want to find a way to repay you. That's all!"
"That's all?" The brother threw his cigarette butt on the ground and stomped it out, snorting through his snort, "That's for the best! Remember what you said today! Don't let my sister's kindness be wasted on those wolf cubs!"
"I will naturally be honest with every word I said and will not forget it. It's just that you said I have an extraordinary background and ulterior motives. I also think that you have an extraordinary temperament, unlike an ordinary person!"
"What do you want to say?" Ge Gang frowned.
“You were doing pretty well before, so why did you suddenly leave your old employer?” Wen Ni said, stepping onto the threshold to sit next to her brother. “Now that you’re a small foreman at the factory, you should have money and be able to afford a house in the suburbs. Why don’t you go back? Instead, you’d rather commute a long time every day to live in this remote old house with Maggie. Is it because you really want to live a secluded life, or is there someone in the city that you’re afraid of?”
"..." The brother paused, his eyes turning cold as he stared at Wen Ni. After a while, he stood up, dusted off the cigarette ash, and said coldly, "Don't pry into things that have nothing to do with you!"
"Okay~ I won't force you if you don't want to talk about it."
Wen Ni shrugged indifferently, and only looked away after watching her brother return to his room.
The hand resting on the knee tapped repeatedly!
As she suspected, the siblings' identities were not simple, but they weren't bad people. She just hoped it wouldn't affect her subsequent mission. She could sever ties with them once she had a legitimate reason to remain in Myanmar.
Seven more days passed.
Wen Ni followed her brother to the Dongzhiwei Electronics Factory in southern Myanmar.
"You are responsible for the placement of goods on this line. There is usually not much work in the morning. The transport trucks arrive at 12 noon and 3 pm every day, and you can finish work and leave before 8 pm at the latest."
"good."
Wen Ni nodded obediently and then followed the workers onto the production line to familiarize herself with the work process.
Brother Gang and the deputy head of the department in charge of arranging work walked aside.
The deputy head turned around and glanced in Wen Ni's direction before whispering to Ge Gang, "This little boy is really handsome, but he looks a bit thin. Are we really going to put him here to manage the goods? Moving those things around is no easy task!"
“This young buddy of mine needs training and to toughen her up. You can assign her any kind of work, the heavier the better! Don’t worry about the fact that I put her in here!” The brother patted the deputy commander on the shoulder. “I’m handing her over to you!”
"Okay, I understand!"
Over the course of two weeks, Wen Ni was assigned a lot of work.
She was still recovering from her injuries, but she gritted her teeth and persevered. She knew this was Ge Gang's scheme to make her give up!
But Wen Ni is the kind of person who faces challenges head-on! No one can make her back down.
Moreover, only by leaving traces of her life in the area can her new identity be more credible.
"How's she doing at work lately?" The brother had just entered the warehouse from outside and looked around but didn't see Wen Ni anywhere.
He's been quite busy lately and just managed to find some time to come.
The assistant worker stroked his chin thoughtfully and said, "This child works very diligently."
"Ha, nothing to praise, all I can say is that she's diligent? What's the use of just being diligent? If she doesn't produce anything and can't keep up with everyone else's pace, it's all for nothing!" Brother Gang raised his chin, laughing sarcastically, and stepped inside to look for Wen Ni's figure. "Pay her today, and send her back to where she came from!"
"Um... Brother just..." The deputy chief started to say, but didn't finish.
Brother Gang froze, standing rooted to the spot.
The person he was looking for appeared in his sight!
Others only had a cart piled high with goods beside them, climbing up and down, making trip after trip to put the corresponding goods into the warehouse shelves.
Next to Wen Ni were two fully loaded carts. She stood on the climbing steps, holding up twice as many boxes as others with one hand. With quick eyes and hands, she had already stacked them up in minutes!
He did the work of two people all by himself, and his speed was just as fast as anyone else's!
"Ying-ge'er! You're really amazing!"
"That's right! We're doing piecework, and Ying-ge'er is doing the work of two people. He should get double pay at the end of the month!"
"When Ying-ge first came, I saw that he was tall and thin, and I thought he couldn't do anything! I didn't expect that he would be more capable than any of us!"
The surrounding workers couldn't help but give him a thumbs up.
My brother's face turned black.
"Brother Gang, I don't think your little brother needs any training. He's skilled and hardworking! He's a great kid!" The assistant foreman praised without any tact. "He was so fair-skinned when he first came, look how tanned he is now!"
Upon hearing this, I turned around and left with a stern face!
Wen Ni looked down from the climbing frame and caught a glimpse of her brother's departing figure. A bright smile curved her lips. It seemed that someone's plan to get rid of her had failed, and she was in a bad mood.
Humming a little tune, he turned his head and continued sorting the goods.
8 PM
Wen Ni, who had completed double the workload, left work at the same time as everyone else.
She stood at the factory gate for a while, gazing at the dark night, but she couldn't see Ge Gang's familiar motorcycle!
The factory was far from the seaside cottage and there was no public transportation, so she had been going back with her brother during this time.
Logically speaking, I should have been waiting for her here at this time...
"Ying, where's Brother Gang? He seemed to have a business dinner today and left around 7 PM. Didn't he tell you?"
"Ah~ maybe he was too busy and forgot?"
Wen Ni raised an eyebrow and smiled at the worker.
It seems someone broke down and deliberately didn't take her home!
"Ying, I'm on the night shift tonight. I'll lend you my motorcycle. Otherwise, it's so late, and since you live in a remote area, you won't be able to get back!"
"Thank you, Brother Liu."
Wen Ni thanked him and rode her motorcycle onto the night highway.
There were no cars on the road at night, and the journey was smooth, so it only took half an hour to reach the seaside cottage.
Before even entering the hospital, Wen Ni felt something was strange.
Every day at this time, Maggie would light a fire at home to cook and wait for them to come back to eat. There should be wisps of smoke coming out of the chimney on the roof!
But there isn't any now, and the courtyard is unusually quiet.
Wen Ni suddenly had a bad feeling.
She threw the motorcycle at the door, grabbed two handfuls of mud and mortar from the side of the door and smeared it on her cheeks, then pushed open the gate and headed straight for the hut!
The door to the cabin was open, and the light was on.
As she stepped over the stairs, what came into Wen Ni's view was Maggie, bound hand and foot and sitting on a chair...
