Chapter 3 Childhood (Part 1)

When I opened my eyes again, the scene was outside the gate of Bai Ze Orphanage.

It was like finding a dusty memory hidden in the bottom of the memory palace. The memory suddenly became clear from being vague, and Bai Ningning recalled the past like a movie in her mind.

The warm yellow sunset slanted down onto the simple little squares on the chalk drawing. A five-year-old girl with fair skin was jumping and playing hopscotch on the little squares.

Her clothes didn't fit her well. They were one size larger than her and had been washed to a pale color. There were two inconspicuous holes at the hem.

——This is Bai Ningning when she was a child.

Suddenly she missed a step and fell flat on the ground, stirring up a thin layer of dust around her.

Bai Ningning didn't rush to get up. Although her body was a little painful, she was more confused and at a loss. It was not because she fell, but because of the dense and colorful words that suddenly appeared in front of her eyes.

These blocks of text have no pattern and are of all colors. The center part is particularly dense, as if it were stacked four or five layers. Bai Ningning hasn't started school yet and doesn't know many words. She wants to ask the director's mother to help her, but these words severely block her vision. She can't find anyone at all, so she can only barely remember the shapes of the words.

Although they look fancy, if you look for patterns, you will find that the most repeated sentence is the same one:

【Welcome to where dreams begin! 】

Just as she was still confused, she heard someone running towards her and stretching out a warm little hand to pull her up - it was five-year-old Yuan Muyang.

Bai Ningning's vision was blocked by the barrage of comments and she couldn't see anything, so she slapped his hand away.

The director's mother said that anyone who holds their hands without saying hello is definitely not their parents but a human trafficker.

If she went with them, they would kidnap her and sell her to the streets, break her legs and force her to beg for food. It would be scary and she didn't want that.

In front of Bai Ningning's eyes, the colorful font in the middle disappeared and the subtitles began to flow. She didn't understand what was happening. She climbed up by feeling, sat cross-legged on the ground, and "stared" at the person in front of her with a nervous face, and was ready to call for help from the director's mother at any time.

[Why did my daughter fall down at the beginning? Don’t cry, mommy, give me a hug.]

【Are you hurt from the fall? 】

Ningning is so cool, she actually slapped the male lead's hand away - is she the first and only woman to reject the male lead?

It would be great if Ningning could go home with them now. The male lead's house is full of desserts and snacks. Ningning will definitely like them.

[Don't envy others, Ningning will have three older brothers who will spoil her to the skies!]

【Ningning, Mommy loves you! 】

The cub Bai Ningning saw her own name among the words, but could only roughly recognize a few of them - she had three brothers and a mother.

The little boy in front of her was a bit stunned for the first time encountering such an unfriendly person, but he quickly smiled as warmly as the sun. "Why are you playing hopscotch by yourself? Can I play with you?"

As soon as he opened his mouth, no new strange blocks of words appeared in front of Bai Ningning, but the unfinished sentence still floated horizontally in front of her.

The blocks of text were much sparser, and she could at least see the road ahead.

The little boy in front of me looked like an exquisite little ball carved out of jade. The fabric of his clothes was soft, and the patterns were new and complete. One could tell from his clothes that he was a child from a wealthy family.

The director's mother said that we shouldn't play dangerous games with such children, because if they get their clothes dirty, we won't be able to pay for it.

Bai Ningning stood up, dusted off her clothes and pants, and said, "I'm waiting for my brothers and sisters to finish school. If you have any questions, please go to the courtyard and talk to the director's mother."

After she finished speaking, she ran to the courtyard to complain to the director's mother, saying that there was a strange person at the door and asked her to go and take a look.

The director's mother pinched her face gently and said with a hint of reproach, "Go wash your face. Where did you go to get covered in dust?"

The director's mother walked to the door and saw a mother and son. The mother was very young, with big black wavy hair, delicate makeup on her face, bright red lipstick, a light lotus-colored strapless long dress, and a white sweater on her upper body. She looked elegant and noble.

This is Bai Ningning’s future master’s wife, Xu Wanhui.

The child, despite being very young, had a masterly demeanor. He looked a little aggrieved, but he pretended to be indifferent and asked his mother, "Why doesn't she want to play with me?"

Xu Wanhui gently taught her, "You can bring some candy next time to invite her, but you can't force others to be your friend."

"Okay." The little dumpling responded, but seemed to feel that it was not enough, so he nodded again.

The dean stepped forward at the right time and said, "Hello."

"Hello." Xu Wanhui smiled and extended her hand to shake the director's. "I want to sponsor this orphanage."

The dean quickly invited them in for a visit.

Little Tuanzi followed his mother into the orphanage. As soon as he entered the door, he looked around. There were many children playing there, but he couldn't find the little girl playing hopscotch at the door after searching for a long time. He couldn't help feeling a little disappointed.

At this time, Bai Ningning was lying on the floor of the drawing room and drawing words on a piece of scratch paper. She wrote down the words that suddenly appeared in front of her according to the shapes in her memory, and wanted to wait until she knew these words in the future to see what they meant.

Unable to read, these words were like heavenly scriptures to her. She could only manage to copy out one sentence: "Welcome to where the dream begins."

Could these words be a prophecy from a fairy tale? As the chosen one, she had received a revelation from heaven... Xiaotian, the brother in the courtyard, seemed to say that he had seen the light of Ultraman and would one day become Superman and save the world.

Can she save the world too?

The prophecy also says she will have a mother and a brother. Does she really have family? When will they come to pick her up?

"Ningning, are you there?" Bai Xiaohua, who was only a year older than her, approached her. Seeing her face covered in dust, she looked a little disgusted. "Why is your face so dirty? Go wash it and change into clean clothes. That beautiful auntie seems to want to adopt you."

"Okay, I'll go right away." Bai Ningning folded the note and put it in her pocket, then ran to wash her face, but did not plan to change clothes.

The reason was simple. The Bai Ze Orphanage was relatively poor, and each child only had two sets of clothes to change into, and her previous set was not even dry yet.

Bai Ningning trotted all the way to the dean's office, knocked on the door politely, and after entering, she saw the beautiful aunt talking to the dean.

The exquisite young master sat obediently on the side, his back straight, looking at her nervously, as if he wanted to talk to her.

Xu Wanhui smiled gently and asked her, "What did you see at the orphanage gate just now?"

Bai Ningning opened her mouth, then recalled the stories in picture books where the protagonist trusted the villain and was miserably deceived. She pinched the note in her pocket and unconsciously took a step back, her eyes wandering: "No, I don't know... I can't say."

She really couldn't lie. Even without her opening her mouth, Xu Wanhui knew that she must have seen something that others couldn't see.

Xu Wanhui pushed the little girl in front of her and said, "This is Yuan Muyang. Ningning, can you take him to visit the orphanage first?"

After sending Bai Ningning away, Xu Wanhui took out her relevant documents and spoke slowly, "This little girl can see ghosts. I suggest you hand her over to our Supernatural Research Supervisory Office and go through the formal adoption process to become a disciple of Xuanmen."

When the director's mother heard that Bai Ningning could see ghosts, her eyes widened in horror. She quickly found all the relevant information about Bai Ningning and handed it to Xu Wanhui as if it were a hot potato.

Just like that, Bai Ningning got into Xu Wanhui's car in a daze and was adopted by Xuanmen.

The previous prophecy said that she would soon have a mother and three brothers. Now she has an adopted "mother", but only one "brother". Why?

She had observed that when other children in the orphanage were adopted, the director's mother would ask the children for their opinions, but today no one came to ask her if she was willing to be adopted.

Xuanmen is on Qingwei Mountain. The conditions here are much better than those in Bai Ze Orphanage. Bai Ningning can even live in a single room with a yard, but she does not sleep well. She cannot fall asleep until ten o'clock in the evening - this is considered insomnia for her.

She sighed and got up to go to the bathroom.

The only downside here is that you have to take a detour to go to the toilet.

When she was about to return to her room after using the restroom, she found that the light in the adoptive parents' room was still on and two people seemed to be talking. She vaguely heard her own name, so she tiptoed over to eavesdrop.

She couldn't see it, a ghost swung in front of her, and then circled behind her: "What a nice smell——"

Inside the house, Xu Wanhui said, "I'm sure she saw it. When the ghost appeared, she was so frightened that she froze for a moment, then fell flat on her face. She lay there and refused to get up, acting very scared. Although her spiritual awareness hasn't been awakened yet, she will definitely be a promising young person in the future."

Bai Ningning felt a chill on her back and her whole body went numb: "Ghost!"

There really are ghosts in this world QAQ!
