Chapter 222 Always by her side
"The person has been found?"
Shen Yan leaned back on the sofa in the president's office of Yucheng Group, lazily playing with his phone, while Yu Zhan was tinkering in the open kitchen.
He brought out a bowl of seafood porridge from the kitchen and pushed it in front of Shen Yan.
"Try it," Yu Zhan said.
Shen Yan, on his deathbed, sat bolt upright in shock. "How much?"
"How much does it cost?"
"The people from the secretariat who come to taste the food are paid two thousand each. Shouldn't I double that? If they die from poisoning, at least I can earn some compensation."
"Tch, that's all you've got!" Yu Zhan tossed the spoon into the bowl and sat down opposite him.
Shen Yan didn't stand on ceremony and picked up a spoon to start eating.
"You still haven't answered my question. You've found the person, right?"
Yu Zhan gave a faint "hmm," then crossed his legs, leaned back on the sofa, and lit a cigarette.
Shen Yan glanced at him.
He seems to be smoking more and more lately.
"She wants to have fun, doesn't she? Let's play along and have some fun." Yu Zhan slightly curled the corners of his lips.
Arrest her? She's probably hiding even tighter.
Besides, they are law-abiding citizens who do nothing illegal. If she wants to play, they will play along until she is scared and begs for mercy.
"How is Shu'er doing?" Shen Yan asked while eating.
Yu Zhan didn't notice that Shen Yan had already finished all the porridge.
"Aside from that guy constantly bothering him, there's nothing else wrong." Yu Zhan frowned, looking at his clean bowl. "Is it good?"
"It's alright," Shen Yan said.
"Twenty-one." Yu Zhan.
"..." Shen Yan glared at him.

Luo Shu seemed to be in a good mood when she woke up, and drank a full bowl of seafood porridge.
For several days in a row, Luo Shu was able to eat three meals a day prepared by Yu Zhan and delivered to her.
Her health is recovering well, and there are no major problems.
He was discharged from the hospital three days later.
"Why don't you stay with Mom?"
Luo Qiu looked at Luo Shu, who was lying on the sofa leisurely eating grapes, as if nothing had happened.
It was as if she had let go of something, as if she was no longer interested in anything, including Yu Zhan.
"No need, Mom, Aunt Xu is here, don't worry." Luo Shu raised her hand and looked at the red string on her wrist.
Zhou Zhiyi came out of the kitchen. In Yu Zhan's villa, there was only one room with a bed. There was nowhere else to sleep, so it would be difficult to stay.
"If anything happens, just call us. Don't try to handle everything on your own. Get some rest, and Mom will take you out to play tomorrow!" Zhou Zhiyi smiled.
"Where should we go?" It seemed like it had been a long time since Luo Shu had gone out with Zhou Zhiyi.
"You'll find out when you go tomorrow."
Luo Qiu smiled but didn't say anything.
They left after dinner.
"Aunt Xu, the seafood porridge you had the other day was delicious. Do you have time tomorrow? I'd like to have some more."
As Luo Shu was going upstairs, she passed by the kitchen and saw Aunt Xu busy at work.
"I want to eat it, of course I can make it!" Aunt Xu said with a smile.
She had a good appetite and didn't experience morning sickness like other pregnant women. She ate whatever she wanted, and naturally, we satisfied her cravings.
"Where did you buy those oysters? They look quite fresh," she asked.
"The seafood market over there on the east side has the freshest and plumpest seafood!" Aunt Xu said without changing her expression.
Luo Shu paused, smiled slightly, went upstairs, and said nothing more.
There were no oysters in the seafood porridge that day.
Aunt Xu lied; she didn't make the breakfast.
She suddenly remembered that on Aunt Xu's first day at home, the shrimp dumplings that morning looked extremely unappetizing, and she should have noticed the men's footprints in the kitchen that hadn't been cleaned up yet.
If these breakfasts, or even all three meals a day, weren't made by Aunt Xu, then there's only one possibility: it was that man.
That man was always by her side.
While she was fast asleep.
She pursed her lips, feeling a warmth welling up inside her.
The next day, she got up at five o'clock without deliberately adjusting her alarm.
She's been getting up in the middle of the night a lot lately, and she seems to have gotten used to it.
Aunt Xu usually keeps a glass of warm water by her bedside so that she can drink it when she wakes up.
Today, after drinking her water, she walked downstairs barefoot, taking each step carefully, as if afraid that if she made any noise, the anticipation in her heart would vanish.
My steps are light, but with each step my heart is heavy.
The kitchen lights were on, and the surroundings were quiet and dim.
In the early hours of a summer morning, around five o'clock, the sky slowly began to lighten, and the faint sound of cicadas could be heard from the branches of the trees in the backyard. The harmony at that moment had a breathtaking beauty.
There were soft sounds coming from the kitchen, even the footsteps were gentle.
Luo Shu glanced at Aunt Xu's door, which was tightly closed, and she didn't seem to be getting up.
She crouched by the corner of the stairs, carefully observing everything happening in the kitchen.
If she hadn't come down today, she wouldn't have known that the kitchen is actually not very noisy.
Or perhaps it was deliberately downgraded.
Being secretly loved seems to become tangible at this moment.
She watched with trepidation, like a voyeur doing something wrong; the feeling of guilt amplified her tension.
She didn't know what she was afraid of.
Her heart pounded wildly, and an unexpected tension enveloped her.
When a pair of men's shoes came into view, all her mental preparation crumbled at that moment.
It really was him!
The man, wearing slippers, gray shorts, loose clothing, and an apron around his neck, was in the kitchen using scissors to process seafood.
Aunt Xu was nowhere to be seen.
Clearly, it seems this man has been doing all this work these past few days.
She placed her hands together on her knees, rested her chin on her arms, and watched intently as the man busied himself in the kitchen. She had no intention of exposing his true intentions.
The morning sunlight streamed through the windows into the living room, casting a soft golden glow, while the sweet aroma of seafood porridge wafted from the kitchen.
The man opened the pot lid, raised his wrist to check the time, and a slight smile appeared on his lips.
The woman sitting on the corner of the stairs also slightly curled her lips, watching the sunlight fall freely on his wheat-colored skin, his strong biceps faintly visible. With the ripples, he picked up a spoon, scooped up a spoonful of porridge, and carefully tasted it.
He licked his lips, seemingly satisfied with the taste, then turned off the stove, took a bowl from the cupboard, filled it, and placed it on the table to cool.
He then cleaned up the kitchen, carefully examined the footprints on the floor, and used his phone to control the robot vacuum cleaner to clean up the mess. Only then did he sit down in the dining room, satisfied, and turn around to eat the bowl of seafood porridge.
The woman looked at him, then quietly went back to her room to wash up.
Aunt Xu should have gotten up by now.
Luo Shu should get up too.
