4 Slingshot
◎Every time, it would be met with collective laughter from the monkeys.◎
After being yelled at, Qiao Jinnian didn't dare to get any closer, and she didn't know how to help him.
When a lion licks its wounds, it has an anti-inflammatory effect, so she really can't help much. However, she thinks she can still help a little, for example, she can help him clean the dirt around the wound.
Ryan didn't know who he had fought with. His hair was covered with mud, some of it was even tangled, and there was some blood on his belly. If these were not cleaned, it would affect the recovery of his wounds.
After thinking about it, Qiao Jinnian used a pointed stone to cut off some of her overly long sleeves. Anyway, the clothes were too big for her and had to be rolled up. By the time she grew up, the clothes would have been worn out and would be useless.
After cutting off both cuffs, Qiao Jinnian looked at the sleeves that looked like they had been chewed by a dog and thought it was fine as it at least didn't affect his crawling speed.
Holding two sleeves, she crawled to the river, wet the sleeves and put them in her pockets. Of course, her clothes would get wet, but she had to use her hands to crawl, so she couldn't hold them in her mouth.
After crawling for a while, she felt that she was too stupid. She still needed a container. To clean the wound, she needed at least a larger container for water.
But when she looked around, there was nothing. Wait, she remembered the monkey breadfruit. Wasn't that a container?
So she quickly climbed back, stuffed all the remaining fruits into her mouth, and filled the empty shells with water.
This time, she couldn't crawl through the water on her knees, nor could she put it in her pocket, nor could she hold it with her hands. She could only bite one side with her mouth.
This is really difficult for a child who is only a few months old. She doesn't even have teeth yet and can only bite with her gums. After crawling for a while, she has to stop and rest for a while, otherwise her mouth will be too sore and the water will flow out.
She rested like this for several times, and after half a bowl of water was shaken out, she finally staggered back to Ryan.
At this time, Ryan licked his wound for a long time and did not dare to sleep and rest as usual. He just opened his mouth slightly, and his nostrils flared, trying to distinguish the smells around him. His golden lion eyes kept scanning the movements around him. He was extremely cautious because he was injured.
Therefore, he saw almost all of Qiao Jinnian's movements, but he just glanced at them casually and lost interest, and continued to look towards the water source in the distance.
Qiao Jinnian knew that he was too nervous at the moment, and even a cub like her might be cautious.
However, she knew that lions were the only cat species that lived in groups, had strong social abilities, and were highly intelligent animals, so she planned to communicate with him well.
She held up the breadfruit shell with her left hand and pointed at the water inside with her right hand. She lowered it deliberately so that he could see it clearly, and even shook it so that he could hear the sound of water. Then she said, "Ryan, this is water. I will use this to clean the dirt on your body, otherwise the dirt will affect the healing of your wound..."
She spoke incoherently and didn't even know what she was saying, but as a human being, there was no one else here except her. If she didn't speak for a long time, she might lose the ability to speak.
Unexpectedly, Ryan really saw clearly that she was holding water in her hand. Her mouth was slightly open and she made a slight "roaring" sound, as if she was very surprised. It was the first time she saw a species that could hold water in a container.
Qiao Jinnian actually felt that she saw some doubt in that lion face. Then, in front of him, she took out two wet rags from her jacket pocket, waved them in front of him, pointed at his stomach, and whispered, "Wipe the wound."
But the next second, Ryan lowered his head, put the two rags in his mouth, placed them on his front paws, and fiddled with them with his other paw for a long time, trying to see clearly what they were.
Qiao Jinnian didn't bother him, wanting to see when he would return the rag to her.
Fortunately, as an adult male lion, he was not that curious. After taking a few looks and making sure it was not dangerous, he moved it aside.
Qiao Jinnian wasn't angry either. She picked it up, patted it clean, and then wet it again. She gently crawled to his abdomen and looked at him again: "Did I wipe it?"
This time, perhaps it was just because he was very wary at the beginning, and he talked to her for a while to confirm that she was the harmless two-legged beast cub that had been sleeping next to him, so he didn't react again.
Qiao Jinnian laughed, took the rag, and began to wipe the dirtiest part of his body, untangling the tangled hair, especially near the wound.
It was the rainy season, and some grasslands in the distance had turned into swamps. She could see those swamps from the highest point. Ryan must have gone to the swamp and rolled in the mud.
Soon, the water in the bowl turned completely black.
So, Qiao Jinnian raised the bowl again and said to Ryan, "Ryan, look, the water is dirty. I'll go change the bowl and continue cleaning it for you later."
After saying that, she continued to repeat the process of fetching water several times, going back and forth several times, and finally wiped the dirtiest parts of his body clean.
Ryan was very cooperative and calm the whole time. Even when she couldn't reach the bottom, he lay on his side, turned his belly out, and let her wipe it.
This means that he trusts her very much. This trust is hard-earned and very strange. After all, they don’t have much in common. How did he get this trust in her?
Qiao Jinnian couldn't figure it out, but she had to protect this trust.
Since he believed her, she went to pluck a handful of yellow grass, spread it next to him, and decided to lie down next to him.
However, she didn't know whether he would let her lie there, so she lay down and looked up at his expression. If he yelled at her, then she would go back to the bushes.
However, she lay down, and he did not look at her, nor did he roar. Instead, he continued to look at the distant swamp, as if he was thinking about something.
Qiao Jinnian did not disturb him, but lay down beside him carefully, staying away from his wound, for fear of touching it.
Ryan didn't get up that day, nor did he fall asleep completely. He would lower his head to lick his wounds from time to time.
She knew that a lion could go several days without eating after eating meat once, and would spend most of the day sleeping to conserve its energy, so she was not too worried that he would be hungry.
But, just like a person, what if he is not hungry but thirsty?
So, during the day, Qiao Jinnian went to the breadfruit tree again and used the slingshot she made to try to knock down two fruits, at most. If she had more, she couldn't carry them back because they were too heavy.
Wait, Qiao Jinnian thought that it was not impossible to move it back. She could make a tool for sliding on the grass. There was grass everywhere here, so she could make a tool that was easy to slide on and drag it back across the grass.
She thought of looking for some rounder wood, a few broken by animals, and trimmed them slightly. She didn't know how to do anything complicated, so she tied six sticks together with some sturdy grass, like a raft.
The grass was quite tough, but she was afraid that it would break, so she tied more and would make a new one if she found a better vine later.
When everything was ready, she sat on the ground, holding the slingshot in her hand, aiming at a breadfruit, to see if she could knock one down.
The first time, she hit the round body of the tree and failed.
The second time, she switched her eye, squinted it, and hit the branch, but failed.
The third time, she switched eyes and squinted, aiming carefully, but she hit the fruit. The heavy fruit only swayed back and forth a few times before coming to a standstill...
"Squeak, squeak, squeak..." There was a group of monkeys watching on the tree, and they were Bian Bao and his friends.
Qiao Jinnian didn't know which one was Bread, but Bread ran over by itself, looked around her, and snatched the slingshot from her hand, wanting to see what this thing was for.
Monkeys cannot use tools, but they will instinctively feel that this thing should be useful.
She was not in a hurry and just sat aside, waiting for him to figure it out.
Sure enough, Mianbao returned the branch slingshot to her and asked her to show him how to use it.
Qiao Jinnian took out his slingshot and pointed at the monkeys watching the fun from the tree and said, "Get them out of the way, or they'll get hurt."
Without caring whether they understood or not, Qiao Jinnian pointed at them and pointed to the right. He repeated the same action several times. They actually understood and simply jumped to another tree.
Only Bread sat next to her, pushing her and urging her to perform quickly.
Qiao Jinnian then took the slingshot. After several experiments, she had probably figured out some tricks of using the slingshot. This time, she shot the stone bullet at the root of the fruit.
This time, she finally hit it, but the fruit still didn't fall down.
All the monkeys who had been standing by and watching started to laugh at her, some even grinning. As expected, they were primates, and their expressions were much richer than other animals. It was easy to see their smiling faces, and their teeth were showing from laughing.
Qiao Jinnian's lips curled up slightly, but he didn't care. He continued to calm down and throw stones at the place where he had just been hit.
Sometimes she hit the fruit, but it would just shake a few times and then stop moving. Sometimes she hit the tree branches or the sky, and each time she would be laughed at by the monkeys.
These primates were so surprised that they didn't even bother to eat the fruit. They all stood on another tree and watched her with interest.
However, after countless attempts, one of the fruits finally couldn't hold on any longer and fell straight to the ground.
Qiao Jinnian was not in a hurry to pick it up. Instead, she looked up and smiled at the monkeys who were laughing at her, and deliberately showed her toothpaste, which was still toothless.
