Kiss
When she came to her senses, Ge Jin had already entered the room. She rubbed her forehead, pointed at the cup of noodles, and said, "Change it, it's too bitter."
“It must have milk and sugar added,” Ge Jin said. The coffee he prepared for Su was always different. He stepped forward to take a look, then glanced at the coffee cups on the table, and said with his head down, “The person who delivered the coffee must have made a mistake with the cups. I will give the order, and it won’t happen again.”
It's normal for the people here to be clumsy with Su Yao since they're not familiar with him. Su Yao patted Ge Jin's sleeve and said, "No need to punish me."
He glanced at it, then silently moved it away. "No."
The matter in the United States was settled, but there were still a lot of things waiting for Su to do back in China, so Ge Jin quickly booked return tickets and the two embarked on their journey home.
"Everything is ready, Mr. Su." Ge Jin stood behind him, and Tang Pai stepped forward to hand the organized documents to Su Yao.
She took it, "I really don't want to be this lousy CEO. Do you think there are any other options?"
"Won't the others run for office?" Tang Pai asked cautiously, and Ge Jin glanced at her.
Su laughed out loud, "Those who can compete with me probably don't want to stay in the Su family anymore. Su Wensheng and Su Qingye won't allow that to happen."
Realizing he had asked another "stupid" question, Tang Pai lowered his head. Su Yao noticed, "Ge Jin, when will you be able to ask questions like Pai Pai does?"
"Understood, President Su." Ge Jin remained expressionless. He understood that Su Yao was trying to help Tang out of a predicament. Since he started following Su Yao, he had naturally come to understand many details about her, so he rarely asked these questions. This was his way of being on the same wavelength as the proud one back then, but perhaps his pride had diminished in recent years, and he could no longer understand some of Su Yao's actions, including the adoption of An Chi.
At the shareholders' meeting that arrived as scheduled, looking at the oval table full of people, Su Yaoluo smiled generously and said, "Welcome everyone. Whoever wants to run for office today, please come up on stage. I won't stop you."
Just because Su Yao didn't object doesn't mean the rest of the Su family would sit idly by. Su Wensheng and Su Qingye had already informed them a day in advance, so it was just a formality.
But there are those who don't believe in superstition.
"I want to run for CEO." His hair wasn't gray, but the signs of time were still visible on his face.
After talking for over an hour, all he could say was that Su was incapable of handling important tasks, and that a woman couldn't accomplish anything significant.
Feeling a bit sleepy, Su yawned loudly. Seeing everyone's eyes frequently turning to her, she smiled awkwardly and gestured, "Please continue, please continue."
He turned and ordered, "Pour me a cup of coffee."
"How can you lead the Su family with behavior like this!" The man standing opposite him was indignant, pointing at Su Yao with wide, angry eyes.
Looking up, Su Yao's eyes revealed her annoyance. She could give face to these elders and endure humiliation, but she couldn't stand the accusation that "she devoted herself to the Su family".
This is not only due to her hard work, but also to the hard work of thousands of Su's employees behind her, who built this towering edifice. She will not allow such people who reap the benefits without sowing to talk about or even insult it.
Standing up, straightening his clothes and smoothing them out, Su Yao looked at the person across the table. "I'm thirty this year. I've been working at Su's for five years. From bringing the South City project with me when I joined Su's, to leading Su's to participate in international projects, and now to the scale of Su's, I, Su Yao, dare to say that Su's can't do without me. What about you?"
She was so angry that she stopped using honorifics like "you" altogether.
"Regardless of today's election results, I will have no objections. But neither you nor anyone here can erase from this building the contributions that I, Su Yao, and my team have made to the Su Corporation!"
Applause suddenly erupted from one corner and gradually spread throughout the entire conference room.
Shame, anger, and frustration filled the man, yet he couldn't utter a single word.
After these remarks, no one dared to run again, even with Su Yao's "encouragement," they remained unmoved. However, unsurprisingly, Su Yao was successfully elected CEO.
After seeing everyone out of the meeting room, Su pondered, "Ge Jin, do you think I shouldn't have said that? Otherwise, they wouldn't have all chosen me."
“You are excellent,” Ge Jin replied.
"But isn't this going too smoothly? Even with those two old fogies from the Su family holding things together, it shouldn't have gone this smoothly."
"Some things don't need to be overcomplicated; just let nature take its course."
Ge Jin's answer was always so satisfactory. Su Yao slammed the table and said, "Alright, let's go. I've been troubling you lately. I'll give you a break, and I'll give myself a break too. Let's rest for a while."
As Su Yao left the conference room, a man stopped her.
With blond hair and blue eyes, he was one of the shareholders from overseas—Chris.
"Su, you are more perfect than I imagined."
“Thank you, Chris.” She wasn’t modest at all.
The man extended his hand, fingers waiting to touch. "Would you like to have dinner with me, Sue?"
Sue has always been good at maintaining appropriate boundaries in relationships between men and women. “No, Chris, I don’t like your type. Don’t waste your time on me.”
Ge Jin, who was about to step forward to stop Chris, stopped when he heard this, and then followed Su Yao away.
That's why Su stayed in the city center to accompany An Chi during his college entrance exam. She understood how important the college entrance exam was for a child like An Chi, and she did feel guilty towards him, even though it was something both of them wanted.
She didn't need to explain these things to An Chi, fearing that he would be too sentimental and think that her existence was very important to her. She rarely showed such unwillingness to owe anyone or such a sudden burst of kindness, but she really couldn't let An Chi's mother down.
Early in the morning, before the dew had even settled in, Su Yao's forehead was covered in sweat. The sky was cloudless, and she had already returned from her exercise when she ran into An Chi, who was getting up for breakfast. "Good morning."
"Good morning, come and have breakfast." An Chi served her a bowl of porridge and placed it at the head of the table.
"I'll take a shower first." She went into the bathroom.
Waiting is often the most agonizing. An Chi had been trembling with fear since morning, waiting for Su Yao to return. He didn't know how long she would be gone, or if it would be a lifetime away.
"What are you thinking about? You seem so engrossed."
Her hair was wet, with a few strands hanging irregularly down her neck. Su Yao was wearing a white strapless top today. Unlike other mature women, she had a different kind of aura, an aura of command and control. After sitting down, the large round earrings on both sides of her ears kept swaying, as if to liven up the atmosphere.
"How long can you stay?" he answered truthfully, yet concealed the truth.
He paused while drinking porridge, then took another sip and said slowly, "Until you finish your college entrance exam."
"Really?" His pupils dilated. Studies have shown that when people see something they like, their pupils dilate by 45%, and An Chi's pupils have dilated twice today: once when Su was about to return from exercising, and once just now with his promise.
Su Yao didn't eat much, wiped her mouth, and said, "It's fake."
She seemed genuinely interested in teasing him; his lips curled slightly upwards, carrying a subtle smile.
Aunt Hong came in from the doorway at this moment, lifting her shopping basket. "Miss is here too. I'll cook something nice for lunch."
Since An Chi entered his senior year of high school, Su Yao instructed Aunt Hong to cook three meals a day for An Chi at home, just to put her mind at ease.
"Okay." She agreed, and he agreed too.
Even though they lived under the same roof, the two rarely communicated. The company was not completely idle, and Su had many things to do, while An Chi also had a heavy academic workload. The only time the two of them got together was for three meals a day.
How was your lesson today?
"fine."
"Um."
It's as if the two people are living in two glass domes, able to see each other but not disturb each other.
As the college entrance examination approached, Su Yao reduced his workload and instead took on many more college application forms.
But everything changed on May 28th.
The doorbell rang. Why would anyone come to visit in the morning?
"Hi, Su, long time no see, did you miss me?" The man's height of 1.87 meters made An Chi, who was 1.83 meters tall, look slightly inferior. He opened his arms, wanting to hug Su, but was stopped by An Chi with a hostile expression.
Sue looked unfriendly and didn't give Chris a pleasant look. "Chris, I expect you to leave immediately. I don't know who told you I'm living here, but since you've come uninvited, I can call the police." She delivered a cold warning in fluent English.
“I just wanted to visit my friend, Sue.”
“We’re not close enough for an in-person visit yet,” Su said, crossing her arms and scrutinizing Chris.
The man standing outside the door still had a smile on his face. "You haven't been back to the Su family for a long time. I just missed you. My visa is about to expire. Don't you want to see me off?"
After only a moment's thought, Su Yao relented, "I'll show you around Beicheng. Wait for me in the garage. I'll change my clothes and go downstairs. It's not convenient for you to come in from here."
"Okay." The man glanced at An Chi smugly, and the smile on his lips was particularly irritating to An Chi.
The door slammed shut, and An Chi grabbed Su Yao, who was about to leave, saying, "Don't go."
"He's just a business partner. It's not that he's not coming back." Su Yao glanced down at the tightening grip on her wrist, but still explained calmly.
An Chi was as stubborn as a child who would not give up easily.
The grip tightened, but then loosened.
Su shook him off decisively, no longer willing to talk back, "Stop messing around."
She thought it wasn't good to keep Chris waiting downstairs, so she didn't want to waste any more words.
He still had a childish temper, always thinking that Su Yao's few days of companionship would cause a stir for him, but he forgot that Su Yao's true nature was a profit-driven businessman. Such a person would never understand what love is. Men are like this, women are like this, or perhaps it should be said that all people are like this.
The so-called "prodigal son returns" that we are waiting for is nothing more than a fantasy of being in love.
Moreover, Su Yao is not a "prodigal son" at all. She is a person of high moral character and a brilliant entrepreneur. How could she possibly fulfill his unrealistic dreams?
An Chi has always been proud of his youth, but everyone is young, and what Su needs is something that will never fade away.
"What if you leave today and don't come back?" An Chi persisted.
Su didn't even stop walking. "Then they didn't come back."
She disdained playing these childish games with him, thinking that he would eventually see through her efforts over the past few days, but being too greedy is not a good habit.
He rushed forward and pinned her against the pristine white wall. "What do you want to do?" she asked impatiently, her tone now colder.
"I'll kiss you." He devoured the crimson hue he had longed for.
There was no shoving, just a response. She didn't mind the free food that came to her door, and she could always help fend off Chris.
The fox has more wicked intentions than you can imagine.
He was still delusional enough to take the next step and bite down hard on her neck when he already felt the woman's resistance.
The most agonizing thing is the withdrawal after the fall. The coercion, the pain, the recovery—he released her body and stroked the red mark on her fair skin. "Remember to wear a low neckline, it'll be better... to cover it up."
He wasn't unaware, but he was still somewhat reluctant to say it.
"Satisfied?" Su pushed him away, glanced at him, and left.
Taking a few steps back, An Chi lowered his head, his hair obscuring his eyes. "I would be even more satisfied if you could come back tonight."
