Looking at each other
After seeing Su Wenxie into the car, Su Yao was still a little worried. She watched the car drive away, but her brows remained furrowed.
Su Wenxie is older than An Chi, but he has never been serious about his work. All this wealth is on his shoulders. He doesn't have to worry about making a living, but there will be people who covet it. Su suddenly felt that it was better when Su Qingye was alive. At least Su Wenxie would have lived a more stable life.
Lost in thought, Su Yao didn't notice a car parked next to her.
The sound of the car window rolling down startled her, and she politely apologized, "I'm sorry."
"Su Yao." It was the same male voice—An Chi.
Her eyebrows furrowed in surprise. Su Yao hadn't expected An Chi to buy a car. She glanced inside, then walked a little further away to examine the car—a gray Porsche 911. She was even more astonished: "Have you struck it rich?"
"Buying a car will make you rich? Su Yao, your requirements are quite low." An Chi put one hand on the steering wheel and pushed up his black-rimmed glasses with the other: "Get in the car."
"They still need me here," Su said, waving her hand.
“Su Yao, the sky won’t fall just because you’re not here. And Assistant Ge, isn’t he off handling the aftermath?” He stared at her for a long time, the boyishness of four years ago gone, replaced by a more mature, manly air.
Su took a deep breath and opened the car door. "Where are you taking me?"
"You'll see when you get there."
Su fastened her seatbelt, and the car sped away.
Soon they arrived at the foot of a mountain.
An Chi unbuckled his seatbelt. "Get out of the car."
Her expression remained tense, her hesitant manner, and her timid behavior made An Chi realize that she wanted to get involved in those messy, annoying things again.
"Aren't you tired of pretending to be good every day, Su Yao?" He moved closer to her, his lips parting slightly.
His black pupils were visible behind his black glasses, dilating for a moment before quickly returning to normal. He was also a little nervous, always afraid that Su Yao would be unhappy.
Their eyes met, and Su Yao didn't know what to say, but she could clearly hear her heart beating, and it was a little erratic, as if there was another heart beating along with hers.
In fact, An Chi's heart was also racing, even faster than hers.
In a panic, he pressed the seatbelt and unbuckled it for her. "Get out of the car. There are no safe routes around here except the ones I know. If you call someone to pick you up, you'll have to wait a long time."
An Chi sat back down in his seat, opened the car door, and got out of the car in one smooth motion.
Su turned her head to calm herself down, got out of the car, and looked at the mountain road: "You brought me here to climb mountains?"
“No, come with me, I won’t make you tired.” An Chi pulled Su Yao’s hand.
She tried to pull away, but he held on tighter, leading her as he said, "I know this place best. This is the only way to prevent you from getting lost. Don't worry, nobody knows you."
Upon hearing the last sentence, Su Yao gave up struggling and simply slowed down her pace.
"Want me to carry you?" An Chi stood a little taller than her, looking at her, their hands still clasped together.
Su said, "Didn't you say you didn't want me to get tired? I'm already tired."
An Chi glanced at the distance of less than fifty meters from the car, then at Su Yao's gloating expression. He didn't want to pay much attention to her; her stamina from her daily morning runs couldn't possibly be that bad. But then he suddenly noticed her high heels.
Without saying a word, An Chi picked up Su Yao.
"Hey, I was just saying. Put me down, I'm not tired." Su Yao panicked a little when it was her turn.
She was moving quite violently, and An Chi couldn't hold her back, so he threatened her fiercely, "Stop moving, or my lower body will get hard."
"What does it have to do with me if you get up?"
"You're the only woman here, this is none of your business?"
"I am your mother!"
"That was four years ago. Now, you and I are just a woman and a man."
As they walked and chatted, they somehow arrived at their destination, a racing club.
Although it's not far, it's still a few hundred meters away.
He carried her for the remaining few hundred meters.
After putting her down, An Chi still tried to hold her hand as usual, but Su Yao dodged him and walked straight into the club. He looked at his empty hand and could only smile bitterly.
When Su went inside, the people there treated her like a guest, smiling and asking her what activities she wanted to do.
Su thought for a moment, then tossed her head back and said, "Ask him."
The man's expression changed when he saw An Chi, and he seemed to be more obsequious: "Brother Chi, you and your girlfriend?"
He knows An Chi, and they're quite close; Su needs to figure that out.
“My mom.” As if spiteful about the previous conversation, An Chi blurted out, “Arrange some clothes for her.”
Su Yao wasn't annoyed by the answer; instead, she had an expression that said it was true, which made An Chi feel even worse.
"Brother Chi, your mom is so young, just call me Xiao Bao. I wear size M?" The man suddenly became obsequious to her, making Su Yao feel a little uncomfortable.
Before Su could even answer, Xiao Bao was kicked by An Chi: "What are you calling 'sister'?"
"What's that called?" He dodged quickly, otherwise Su would have felt that kick would have hurt a lot.
Su Yao is good at defusing situations: "Just call me Su Yao, or call me Sister Su Yao if you want. I'm not his mother, he's just joking. Size M is fine."
Xiao Bao's eyes scanned the two of them, wondering if it was acceptable to call someone "Mom" in a relationship these days. "Oh, okay."
Then he went to find clothes.
"Do you guys all seem to like racing cars?" Su looked at the wall full of helmets, with a pile of certificates of honor and trophies next to it.
An Chi seized on the loophole: "You? You have other little boy sons, Mother?"
"Heh, just kidding, why are you even more petty than you were four years ago? Don't you know we stopped being mother and son four years ago?" Su Yao looked at the words on the certificate slowly.
"Who are the other little boys?" he persisted.
"Su Wenxie, Su Wenxie, alright? Aren't you all just little boys in my eyes?" Su was annoyed by his pestering, but suddenly looked closely and saw a familiar name on the certificate. Her voice suddenly rose a little: "Hey, you're here! An Chi."
The certificate states that An Chi won the third place in the competition.
Su said with some regret, "I thought someone with your personality would always strive to be number one in everything."
“Apart from you, I haven’t thought about competing for first place in anything else,” he replied, standing behind her.
When Xiao Bao came out, he only heard Su Yao say loudly, and said, "Yeah, our Brother Chi forced himself on me back then. Brother Chi had only touched a race car twice, and he won third place in the race on his third try."
Su Yao heard this, raised an eyebrow at him, and looked at him with praise on her face.
"Don't exaggerate my abilities," he said in a low voice as he took the racing suit from Su and handed it to her. "The first two times I drove, it was on that track. The third time, there was a problem with the club staff, and I was the only one who had driven before, so I stepped in and luckily got third place."
"That's pretty impressive." Su nodded and took the clothes to the fitting room to change.
"Call me if there's a problem," he said, standing behind her. Su waved to indicate that she understood.
When Su came out, An Chi had already changed his clothes. It wasn't his first time changing, so he was always more skilled than her.
He went over to check if some parts were tightened, and after doing all the work, he handed her a red helmet: "Su Yao, if you don't want to play, just call me anytime."
"Since we're here, let's have some fun." Su took the helmet and put it on.
An Chi was still worried, so he checked her helmet again before putting it on himself and leading her into the arena.
A white racing car was already waiting for them.
He got into the driver's seat, and she followed him into the car.
Su asked everyone to fasten their seatbelts. After An Chi finished checking, Su fastened his own seatbelt.
The engine was humming loudly, and before they even started driving, Su Yao could clearly feel her heart racing. She rarely played with such dangerous things.
Behind her are the company, the Su family, and every family waiting for their monthly salary, so she cannot afford to have anything happen to her.
An Chi was right; she was pretending, pretending to be well-behaved and sensible, pretending to be harmless.
Over the years, the only thing she couldn't keep up the act was sleeping with An Chi. It was both out of revenge and rebellion. She was really confused by Su Qingye that day, but she didn't regret it when she thought about it. On the contrary, she felt that the person next to her was quite strong.
"Su Yao, it's about to begin." He reminded her again and again, afraid that she might show the slightest reluctance.
Su glanced at An Chi, who was even more nervous than herself, and chuckled, "Let's begin."
The car was very fast after it started, like a gust of wind and lightning.
The push-back feeling it creates is also very strong.
There are always small obstacles on the mountain road. Tree branches rustle as they brush past, the uneven road bumps and trembles, and there's a hint that the car might overturn. The drifting around sharp turns makes the car sway unsteadily, and the high mounds of earth become part of the speeding journey...
Although Su Yao doesn't often deal with these things, she's seen a lot and wouldn't be scared by them.
An Chi simply went to great lengths to comfort her in various ways.
"The branches won't scratch you."
"It won't crash, trust me."
"These are all normal phenomena."
Su, thoroughly annoyed by the second half, finally spoke up: "Is it that I don't believe you, or that you don't believe in yourself?"
When the car finally came to a smooth stop at the top of the mountain, Su patted An Chi on the shoulder: "No wonder you only got third place."
An Chi smiled. It seemed he really didn't need to worry about this woman; she was composed in everything she did.
Taking off her helmet, Su got off the car, looked in the direction of the observation deck, and breathed in the fresh air. She suddenly felt a sense of ease, an ease she hadn't been able to feel in a while.
"What a pity, I thought we could catch the sunset." An Chi stood beside her.
Su asked, "Is there anything else?"
"fine."
"Then let's wait until sunset." She said casually, a stark contrast to her hesitant attitude when she first arrived.
“There are many insects and snakes on the mountain, so it’s not suitable to stay for long.” An Chi frowned.
Su glanced at him: "Are you saying that your delicate skin isn't suitable for staying long, or am I?"
"you."
"You're overthinking it. I'm almost thirty-five, not a little girl anymore. What am I afraid of?" Su walked towards the observation deck to sit for a while.
An Chi followed her, saying, "Some of them are poisonous."
"If I'm about to die from the poison, I'll take you with me to the grave," Su Yao joked, looking at him sitting beside her.
"Okay." He answered earnestly, making her feel a little embarrassed.
When jokes meet these sincere emotions, Su always feels apologetic.
She changed the subject, "How did you end up driving a race car?"
"I came across it abroad and invested in a small domestic club. I didn't expect it to do so well."
"It's more than just good. Although it's a bit far, a club in City A that can afford to rent a small mountain as a racetrack is pretty impressive."
"This area is almost outside the city limits, it's nothing."
Su Yao didn't want to argue with him; he hadn't changed his habit of being humble.
"Why are you crying?" An Chi thought for a moment and finally asked the question she had been wanting to ask. Since she and Su Qingye had no feelings for each other, she shouldn't be crying for Su Qingye.
Su Yao was silent for a while, and An Chi was a little annoyed with his question: "Because of Wang Mingfei, my mother, I was thinking of her, and how good she was to me. I was still so immature, so I cried."
“Your aunt is good to you and wouldn’t want to see you sad,” he said.
Su looked at him and smiled, "I know, that's why I was thinking of not crying anymore, but then you came."
“I…” An Chi was suddenly put on a tense note again.
“An Chi, I think you’re a strange person.” She met his eyes. “You can tell me you like me in bed, but when the atmosphere is right, you don’t know what to say. Don’t you know that women are especially emotional in these situations?”
"I don't want to deceive your heart with hormones; I just want to truly win your heart." An Chi leaned close to her, the only distance between them being the distant sunset.
The sun is setting, the world is starting to turn upside down, and day and night are gradually resuming their cycle.
The atmosphere was indeed just as Su Yao had said.
An Chi lowered his head, unable to resist the urge to kiss Su Yao.
Sure enough, it's because I'm older that I can resist temptation more easily. Su turned her head directly and said, "What do you like about me? My age? My money? My looks? My intelligence? I don't understand."
"Su Yao, have you been to Washington?" An Chi asked, seemingly out of nowhere.
Su looked at him with a puzzled expression: "Of course I've been there."
“What I mean is, did you come to my school to see me?” An Chi continued before she could answer, “You said last time that you didn’t know everything you’ve done for me, but actually I do know some of it. Every time you go on a business trip, you choose a plane that can land in Washington, and when you transfer, you try to choose Washington, or even a nearby city. You’ve come to see me more than once, haven’t you?”
Su Yao felt a little intimidated by his gaze. She tried to turn her head away, but he grabbed her arm and said, "Look at me, Su Yao."
"The people you arranged for me in Washington have never seen you before and don't know that you are their boss, so they think you are a dangerous person. Su Yao, you clearly care about me, right?"
"You asked me what I like about you. I admit that I was initially attracted to you because of your looks and the hormones of puberty. But after I got to know you, I found that you were even better than I imagined. You are smart, brave, confident, and generous. These qualities are nothing to you, but they have stayed with me for a long, long time. I think it is only natural that I fell in love with you."
"Age is just a calendar of the years you've lived. Happy times are auspicious days, and anxious times are inauspicious days, but these definitions of days will never affect the fact that you are Su Yao."
Su wanted to hear him finish, so she pulled her hand away from his. "I went to see you out of concern for my family. I also went to see Su Wenxie when he went abroad. I know very well that this is not liking, much less love. But if you like me because of this, I'm sorry to have made you misunderstand."
"Su Yao, you're wrong. I don't like you because of what you've done for me. It's because you are worthy of my love, and I want to love you."
"Enough!" Su stood up and looked at him. "An Chi, there's no future for us. Let's go down the mountain."
Hearing Su Yao's fierce rebuttal, An Chi fell silent, but he still went down the mountain as Su Yao asked.
After the two changed their clothes, An Chi stood in front of Su Yao and said, "I'll take you home."
"I'll have Ge come in to pick me up."
"Ge Jin, Ge Jin, Ge Jin, what exactly is your relationship with this assistant?" An Chi, who had just been rejected, acted impulsively. He grabbed Su Yao's wrist as she was about to make a call and pinned it above Su Yao's head.
Realizing his lapse in composure, An Chi released his grip, saying, "I'm sorry."
"Take me home." Su noticed that something was wrong with him.
An Chi nodded, only feeling relieved after watching her lock her phone.
The two remained silent as they walked.
Halfway there, Su realized they were going the wrong way and tentatively asked, "To your place?"
"Okay." He was going to the apartment in the city center.
Su Yao didn't hold it against him for making the decision on his own, and simply said, "Send me to Yuhai Bay."
"Okay." He agreed lightly, as if he wasn't concerned about where Su wanted to go, but the thought that Ge Jin could freely enter and leave Yuhai Bay was surging in his mind, and he himself had been blacklisted that time.
The veins on his hands and neck bulged, and only he knew that his breathing had become deeper and heavier; he was not in good condition.
"Let Ge in for a moment, I have something to do." An Chi said this through gritted teeth, feeling his heart aching. He felt he was in a very bad state. No matter how much he didn't want Su to have contact with others, he wouldn't gamble with something like this.
Su looked at him and then noticed something was wrong. "What's wrong?"
"Nothing much, just a little something came up." His demeanor changed quickly, suddenly becoming better, and he spoke as if nothing had happened.
Su wanted to see him get better, thinking that she had upset him earlier and that it wouldn't have much of an impact. "If I make him work now, it's considered overtime. If something really happens, let me drop him off and I'll take a taxi."
Upon hearing the word "work," An Chi looked at Su Yao, unable to detect any lying, and felt surprisingly calm: "It's nothing serious, I'll take you home."
Su sighed as she looked at An Chi's fluctuating attitude. "Anything is fine, as long as the race car driver gets me back safely."
Finally, An Chi dropped her off at the entrance of Yuhai Bay and found that his car couldn't get in. Su Yao said, "Outsiders aren't allowed in. You can go take care of your business. Thank you for today."
He bravely asked, "What about Ge Jin?"
Surprisingly, Su Yao understood such a short sentence and explained, "Ge Jin's car is mine, it's registered. I can't not even provide my part-time driver with a car, can I?"
An Chi hummed in response, appearing calm on the surface but inwardly she was incredibly excited. It turned out that she and Ge Jin were indeed just colleagues.
After saying goodbye to An Chi, Su went straight home. An Chi watched her get into the security guard's car and drive away only after she disappeared from sight.
