Chapter 16 "The Elves Are Free" Osha is willing to share with Vifiya...
Arnold, who was about to eat, suddenly heard a noisy sound outside. Confused, he put down the dry bread in his hand and opened the door.
There was a lot of noise and commotion in the open space in front of the house, and a lot of extra things were there. Vifiya and the other three were still saying goodbye to the delivery man.
Arnold stepped forward and asked, "Miss Vifiya, what are you doing?"
The four people who heard the voice turned around at the same time. Vifiya took off her hood and handed him the thing in her hand: "I told you in advance, I'm here to return the clothes."
Arnold reached out to take it. He thought Vifiya would send someone to deliver it, but he didn't expect her to come in person.
Kaharun grinned. "Of course we're here to thank you."
Vifiya pointed at the medicine box and said to Arnold, "This is potion. I remember that you were injured during your knight training. I didn't know which ones would be most useful, so I bought some of them."
Osa also reached out and stuffed the armor into his arms: "Since we are here, we can't come empty-handed."
Isidore glanced at the things in the open space, his gaze fell slightly on Vifiya, and he lowered his eyes: "They are all gifts." He had not yet found the right time to tell Vifiya what gifts he wanted, and he felt quite anxious.
Arnold looked at the boxes of medicine and piles of food on the ground, including chicken, pork, lamb, and more than a dozen kinds of vegetables.
For a moment, he was silent.
Seeing that he was silent, Kaharun scratched his head and said a little embarrassedly, "I just accidentally bought too much." He paused and looked doubtful. "You won't refuse to accept it, will you? It's a bit too much, and it's hard for us to take it back."
Arnold sighed secretly. Although he was not used to accepting other people's kindness, under the current circumstances, it was not a good idea to let them take the things back.
Moreover, Arnold still felt a little uneasy in his heart. He was just a commoner, and the nobles standing in front of him were more noble than each other, and they were people he had never dared to imagine in his dreams.
If their kindness was just a pretense like that of the nobles before, and if he accidentally acted impolitely and angered them, they were not ordinary nobles, and their anger was more than he could bear.
It didn't matter what happened to him, but what would he do if his sister was implicated?
He can treat the nobles as he pleases, but he is not alone. He has a sister, and he has to protect his sister, his last relative.
Even if the four people in front of him seemed to have no ill intentions.
He suddenly felt a little regretful for meddling in other people's business.
Vifiya's eyes fell on Arnold's face and she could tell what he was thinking at a glance. He was the same as before, without any change.
After seeing so many changes in this life, Vifiya felt more at ease for some reason.
Vifiya's expression softened. "This is just a personal gift from us. It has nothing to do with the family. We don't have any other intentions. You may find it abrupt, but we just hope you can accept it. It's our gratitude."
Arnold was slightly stunned, and once again, that feeling reappeared in his heart, a feeling he had never experienced when interacting with other nobles.
Obviously, the other party is at the top of the tower, and obviously, they can look down on him, but they are willing to look him in the eye.
Kaharun raised his eyebrows: "Just accept our gratitude. Look at your house, it's so deserted. The last time I came to your house, you couldn't even take out the third cup." He still remembered the embarrassment of asking for water that day.
Arnold had no choice but to explain: "I'm sorry, but since we don't usually have many people over, I didn't buy extra cups. Would you like to come in and sit for a while?"
"Then..." Kaharun glanced at the others, "Let's just sit for a while. No need to pour water or anything."
Several people followed Arnold into the house.
Seeing a few slices of dry bread and some chicken nuggets on the table, Kaharun exclaimed, "Is this what you're eating tonight?"
After getting Arnold's confirmation, Kaharun hesitated to speak.
The room suddenly became quiet. This was also partly the reason why Vifiya agreed to buy food and come in to sit down.
She knew why Arnold was so stingy with her material things; he was saving money for his sister.
In his eyes, his sister deserves a better future. He hopes that his sister can get married and have children like ordinary people. Even if his sister decides to be alone, she can live a good life with the money he has saved.
And the path he decided to take might lead to unexpected events at any time.
"Aren't there ingredients outside?" Weifiya mentioned casually.
Isidore, who was always keeping an eye on Vifiya, understood and said, "Eat the food we brought tonight."
Although Kaharun was startled by Isidore's sudden words, he still spoke up: "Is it time for me and Isidore to show off our superb cooking skills?"
Everyone's eyes instantly turned to him, and Osa asked in surprise: "You can cook?"
Now even Vifiya couldn't help asking: "You and Isidore? Both?"
Isidore's eyes burned when he heard his name coming out of Vifiya's mouth: "Well, if you want to eat it, we can make it."
Upon hearing this, Vifia and Osa looked at each other hesitantly. After all, they had not planned to have dinner at Arnold's house at first, and this might put pressure on Arnold.
However, there are not many nobles who can cook, especially male nobles.
Vifia and Osa were really curious now.
What really piqued Vifia's curiosity was that she knew that the two of them were magicians. She had never eaten food cooked by magicians, so she was really curious.
But this is Arnold's home, so we have to get his consent.
Arnold was surprised that the nobles in front of him were enthusiastically preparing to cook. It was not impossible for them to stay for dinner, and he would not refuse them, but...
He said, "If you don't mind, I have a few sets of knives and forks at home."
So Isidore and Kaharun excitedly ran outside to cook, and Arnold went out to help.
Kaharun looked at Isidore who was cooking seriously, and the corners of his mouth curled up. He now wanted to write a letter to tell the great magician that Isidore was really a sunny boy.
He glanced at Arnold again. Who would have thought that several people could get together for a meal when they had only met a few times? It was incredible.
Osa in the house whispered, "Vifiya, you have to be careful in the next few days."
Hearing this, Vifiya looked at her with a questioning look in her eyes.
Osa looked at her gravely for a long moment before speaking, "He's the royal family's magician. He suspects you're a hidden magician."
Vifiya couldn't help but chuckle: "A magician? Me? Just check the Kesley family, check me, and you'll know if I have a chance to become a magician, right?"
Osha propped up her face with her hands, a look of boredom on her face. "The royal family won't miss any opportunity to find another magician. This is a big reason why Isidore stayed in the palace for so long."
After she finished speaking, she just stared at Vifiya quietly. Her blue eyes, like a glacial lake, seemed to be filled with infinite tenderness. Slowly, her pupils faded, but in a flash, they returned to their original appearance.
She curled her lips and smiled: "Do you know why, besides the royal family, the Vatican attaches so much importance to your prayers?"
Vifiya turned her gaze to her, with a faint smile on her lips, but not in her eyes: "My intuition tells me that this is a secret."
"That's right." Osa said without hesitation, "It's a secret. I only found out by chance."
"What do you want from me?" asked Vifiya.
Osa reached out her hand and lifted a strand of Vifiya's blonde hair. Through Vifiya's blonde hair, she felt the calluses on her hand. "When we first met, I told you that I like you very much, so I'm willing to tell you something you don't know."
Her eyes were open and clear, without any impurities.
"Vifiya, I have the blood of an elf, and elves are free. No matter what you want to do, I am willing to help you."
The sincerity that almost exposed her heart made Vifiya unable to make sense of it. She no longer hid the inquiry in her eyes, and rushed into Osa's eyes as calm as a lake, causing ripples.
Vifiya never gave her anything. From the beginning, she was the one who said she wanted to be friends with her.
But is there really such an emotion?
Osa let down her hair and stretched slowly. Although their relationship had become much closer after the incident with the chain golem, Osa still knew that Vifiya still had doubts about her.
She really wanted to be friends with Vifiya. From the first time they met, she had a feeling that they would get along very well, so she was willing to take the initiative to approach her.
Vifiya exhaled lightly and looked at Osa with helplessness in her eyes: "If you don't want anything like this, it will be very difficult for me to deal with it."
Osa's eyes lit up when she heard this: "Then...just call me Sasha. You haven't called me by my nickname since then." Osa felt a little disappointed.
Without waiting for a reply, Vifia peered out the window at Isidore and the others, still busy at work, and said, "You know, the goddess statue holds a sword, a book, and a sphere in her left hand. I won't go into detail about the sword and the book, but the sphere represents magic. Since the end of the four hundred years of war, magic has all but vanished."
After a pause, she leaned closer to Vifiya and lowered her voice again, "The goddess hasn't appeared in a long time. The royal family and the church both believe that the goddess hopes that humans' swordsmanship, education, and magic will develop, but because of magic, the goddess is disappointed with humans, so she won't send down miracles."
After saying this, Osa distanced herself from Vifiya, her brows curved, and she stood up and walked outside while saying, "I'm going to see how their meal is going. What's taking so long?"
Vifiya was the only one left in the room. She closed her eyes and thought about the news revealed by Osa. If it was true, then many things would be explained.
No wonder the royal families of various countries are looking for magicians, and no wonder the royal family and the Holy See attach so much importance to her vague words. Whether true or false, they need this kind of thing to stabilize the people.
So what happened in the war four hundred years ago that caused such a severe blow to the magical world?
Also, what exactly did the God she met want to do?
