Chapter 53: Transaction "I'm Not Short of Knives"
The night was pitch black, and the wind blew up the snowflakes under the streetlights, making them seem to be dancing.
The students of the college walked past the lights, treading on the layer of snow on the ground, playing and laughing as they headed towards the dormitory. The troubles of teenagers always come and go quickly, and the panic in the morning seemed like an illusion.
Vifiya lowered her eyes and looked at the scene outside the window in the room. The snow had not stopped since last night. She took a deep breath, turned around and walked to the innermost part.
In an inconspicuous corner, she squatted down, took out the key and opened the sturdy thick wooden box with an iron ring. She supported the edge of the box with her left hand and took out a wooden box from it.
Vifiya stood up and gently opened it. The things inside were shining golden in the candlelight.
In the reading area of the room, she casually took out a book from the bookcase, pulled out the specially preserved parchment from the pages, and put them together in the wooden box.
After doing all this, she stared at the gems, gold coins, and property transfer deeds in the wooden box in a daze. After a while, a smile and anticipation appeared in her eyes. These were the things she prepared for Neve. After the curse on her was broken, she would let her go to live in Selim County. The people there were simple and honest, and the countryside was beautiful. The things she prepared for Neve were enough for her to live a life without worries about food and clothing.
After putting the wooden box back to its original place, Vifiya walked back to the reading area, stopped, and the remaining smile disappeared.
The uninvited guest in front of her was sitting lazily, pouring himself a glass of water leisurely. When he saw her coming, he also filled her teacup opposite, as if he wanted to have a long talk with her.
Unfortunately, Vifiya didn't want to have a long conversation with him. She slowly sat down opposite him and said, "Everyone is looking for you now."
Hefa smiled indifferently and said, "So what?"
"You're being rude."
Hefa snorted softly upon hearing this, but said without hesitation, "I apologize to you, but I had reasons both times." He leaned back in his chair, one hand casually resting on the back. "You don't expect me to openly submit a request to see you, do you?"
Vifiya raised her eyes and said, "I don't care what the reason is. This is not a public place."
After that, she pulled out a dagger from under the table. There was a sound of it being unsheathed. The dagger shone with a sharp, cold light under the candlelight. She played with it as if nothing had happened, pointing the tip at him. Vifiya tilted her head and said, "I'm just a noble lady. What if you scare me and I accidentally hurt you?"
Hefa's gaze moved from the dagger in her hand to her face, staring at her for a long time, her expression was innocent, but her eyes were not innocent, she was serious.
He laughed playfully, "I thought I had proven myself trustworthy."
Is he trustworthy? Temporarily, cooperation and trust for the same goal are two different things.
Hefa leaned forward slightly and deflected the cold dagger with his index finger.
Vifiya also leaned over the table slightly: "There is no need for us to meet again now."
"Don't be like that, I'm very interested in you."
"Hold it back." Vifiya replied without hesitation.
Hefa couldn't help but laugh out loud. Every time he came here, he had set up soundproofing magic in advance and was not worried that anyone would hear the noise.
Vifiya remained indifferent. She waited until his expression returned to normal before speaking: "When you're done laughing, leave."
Hefa drank the water slowly. In the quiet room, he could hear the sound of him gently putting down the teacup. "I formally apologize to you here, Miss Vifiya. I am ashamed for breaking into a lady's room without permission. I hope you can forgive me."
Vifiya said nothing.
He didn't get angry and finally talked about the purpose of his visit: "I have another cooperation here, Miss, you will definitely be interested."
"I'm not interested. You can leave now." Vifiya leaned back in her chair, one hand still holding the dagger on the table. Her eyes were obviously cold and impatient. "One last time."
It wasn't that Vifia turned against him after working with him, but she knew that the man in front of her not only had too many uncertainties, but was also too willful. Perhaps there was some bond between him and Osa that was enough to trust each other, but she didn't have it.
Facing her dismissal, Hefa smiled and said, "There's a magician in the Marquis of Kesley's mansion who's researching a way to bring the dead back to life." He paused, his eyes darkening. "Did you know that?"
A cold silver light flashed by quickly. Hefa raised his hand and instantly formed a magic circle to block the attack. He stared at the girl nearby and gently advised, "Don't be like this, Miss Vifiya. We had a pleasant cooperation last time. This time, I come with sincerity."
"If you don't believe me, you can ask Osa to be a witness. Even if you don't believe me, at least believe Osa."
"Why don't you just listen to me and make your decision, Miss."
Ever since Hefa discovered her interesting side, he never looked down on this seemingly weak noble lady. If he guessed correctly, if such a person had come this far on her own, you would have no idea how many cards she had up her sleeve.
Similarly, at this moment, Vifiya didn't know what backup plan he had for being so unscrupulous.
Perhaps it was something he said, a certain name that touched her. She did not move again, nor did she hide the scrutiny in her eyes. The air suddenly became tense and she fell into a stalemate for a moment.
After a while, Vifiya retracted the dagger and motioned him to continue.
The magic circle in Hefa's palm dissipated. Even when discussing the details of the cooperation, he still looked casual: "I'm only interested in resurrection in this matter. No matter what you want, I won't ask. Just let me know all the conclusions of the magician hidden in the Marquis's Mansion on this magic."
"During this period, both sides will share intelligence. As a token of good faith, I can be your sword."
As a descendant of the first great magician, Hefa's strength was unquestionable. He had managed to escape unscathed from every massacre of the Church, never being caught. He even appeared at the coronation ceremony of the tenth Marquis of Vefia with great fanfare...
Vifiya chuckled: "Not enough, I don't lack knives."
She lowered her eyes, and the transparent hot water in the teacup emitted wisps of white smoke, reflecting her face. She lifted her eyelids and smiled innocently, "Mr. Ganache, it's you who came to me to cooperate."
Therefore, we need to add chips before we can continue the talks.
Hefa stared at her rudely, his appetite was quite big. He asked her to cooperate in this matter, not only because he wanted to further confirm his guess, but also because she had a natural advantage as the daughter of the Kesley family. Secondly, he was sure that she would not be uninterested after knowing this.
He thought for a moment, then looked at the girl opposite him and smiled dangerously: "Miss Vifiya, I do have something, but I'm afraid you can't eat it."
Weifeiya originally wanted him to give up, but he actually raised the stakes: "As long as you dare to give it."
Hefa didn't speak immediately, but stared at her for a moment, as if there was something different about her.
He quickly took out a small wooden box from the magic circle that lit up on the side, opened it, and pushed it in front of Vifia.
Vifiya glanced at him and her eyes fell on the wooden box. Inside was just a small piece of cloth, a very ordinary blue cloth.
Hefa's voice came: "Buma Lingdalie once gave the first generation of great magicians..." He seemed to be unable to find a word to describe this piece of cloth. He paused and said, "Holy relic."
But it looks like just an ordinary piece of fabric.
He continued speaking, his expression unusually serious: "You possess His power. You can try to feel it. Maybe you can sense something. I'm not lying."
Vifiya said lightly, Valega was of great significance to his family, and he would not joke about Valega's things.
She touched the cloth tentatively, and a golden light slowly spread from the rough surface. Then, she felt the rune on her right wrist getting hot, and the golden light quickly dissipated.
Hefa watched this scene quietly. As expected, she was the successor of Buma Lingdalie. He looked at her vaguely. She was an ordinary person with no magic power, but she obtained the last magic of that existence and was recognized by Him.
Somehow he suddenly thought of Osha. She really cared about this marquis's daughter. Before causing trouble in the Vatican, she specifically warned him not to do anything uncontrollable to Vifiya. But what should he do? My good student, I have already done it.
He had discovered something remarkable.
As long as he continued to confirm it, Osa would definitely find out. His thoughts couldn't help but wander. How long would she be angry this time? Although she usually didn't respect her teachers, she didn't take him seriously when she was angry, which really gave him a headache.
As expected of her daughter, the mother and daughter are the same at heart.
His attention returned to Vifiya. Both Osha and her mother seemed to have thought too simply of this person, and both believed that the Marquis's daughter was the one who needed protection.
How could he tactfully tell Osa and her daughter, who had feelings for her, that she was not that weak.
Vifiya withdrew her hand without saying a word. This was indeed the power of Valega, and there was no falsehood. Then another question arose. He took out such a valuable thing. Did he think that the magic of resurrection was of equal value?
"Two questions." Vifiya leaned back in her chair and said, "First, what is the specific function of the holy object? Second, what is the purpose of your resurrection magic?"
Her eyes suddenly became sharp: "You don't want to use it yourself, do you?"
Where there is desire, there will be motivation, and anything that can drive people to act will have a corresponding purpose.
She didn't really understand the magic of this world, but her own experience told her that resurrection from the dead was not normal.
Hefa shrugged. "For the first question, I don't know either. For the second question, believe it or not, I just want to make this magic known to fewer people. Miss Vifiya, you should know that once this magic is noticed by more people, the whole world will be in chaos."
Vifia's eyelids twitched. The last time the bard spoke so vaguely was when he discussed the ownership of the potion with her. She was not sure whether Hefa had any hidden intentions. If so, she admitted that if it were not for his relationship with Osha, she would not hesitate to find an opportunity to kill him.
"Since the purpose is to reduce the number of people who know about it, what do you want to do with all the research conclusions? Don't you really have ulterior motives, Mr. Kanache?"
He said indifferently: "Of course I'm just curious."
"However, I have news for you. Your father, the Marquis of Kesley, has arrived in Lachigo."
