Chapter 127 Playing the Victim
"Mo Bai, listen to me!"
Shen Shuangmiao hurriedly stopped her, glancing back at the direction of the bedroom, her voice pleading.
"This time he seems to be serious; he's staked everything he has. Let's just consider it fulfilling his last wish, parting amicably, and ending things completely."
"Just one month, I promise, I will definitely go back after one month."
Zhao Mobai gritted his teeth, somewhat hesitant.
"But……"
"No buts, Mo Bai, please believe me this time!"
Shen Shuangmiao's voice was resolute.
"This is the most peaceful way I can think of. Let's not provoke him any further, okay?"
Zhao Mobai on the other end of the phone fell silent, his breathing becoming heavy.
Finally, as if he had used up all his strength, he hoarsely uttered a single word: "Okay."
"wait for me."
After Shen Shuangmiao finished speaking, she immediately hung up the phone, deleted the call history, and carefully put the satellite phone back in its original place.
She had just breathed a sigh of relief when she turned around and suddenly met a pair of deep, dark eyes.
Shen Shuangmiao was so frightened she almost screamed.
Zhu Jin had woken up sometime earlier and was leaning against the bedroom door frame, quietly watching her.
His face was still flushed and weak from the high fever.
How much did he hear?
Shen Shuangmiao's heart leaped into her throat: "You, how did you wake up?"
Zhu Jin looked at the lingering panic on her face, and a bitter smile slowly curved his lips.
“Even in this last month,” his voice was hoarse and desolate, “you’re still not willing to cooperate with me?”
Zhu Jin's eyes were filled with despair, as if he were about to die at any moment.
Seeing his unsteady state, Shen Shuangmiao's heart tightened and she stepped forward to support him.
"What nonsense are you talking about?" She frowned. "I was just letting Zhao Mobai know I was safe and not to do anything foolish. Since I signed the agreement and promised you, I won't leave for this month. I keep my word."
Now that things have come to this, all she wants is to stabilize the situation and get through this month safely.
Zhu Jin leaned against her, his body feeling weak from the fever.
He lowered his head, his gaze concealing the turbulent emotions surging deep within his eyes.
Zhu Jin didn't ask any further questions, but simply let her help him lie back down on the bed.
Shen Shuangmiao tucked the blanket around him, and seeing his weak appearance with a slight frown, her wariness lessened.
No matter how wicked he was before, at this moment he is a patient, powerless to even kill a chicken.
It poses no threat.
Shen Shuangmiao tossed out a "Take a good rest" and turned to leave the bedroom.
She went into the kitchen, opened the well-stocked double-door refrigerator, took out some easily digestible ingredients, and planned to cook some nutritious porridge.
The kitchen is fully equipped, even with top-of-the-line kitchenware.
Zhu Jin has prepared this place very well.
Shen Shuang skillfully tied on her apron and began preparing the side dishes.
In the bedroom, Zhu Jin listened to the sounds of cooking downstairs and slowly opened his eyes.
There wasn't a trace of vulnerability or confusion in his eyes; he remained as clear-headed as ever.
Zhu Jin sat up, picked up the satellite phone, and strode into the better soundproofed study.
He pressed the encrypted number, and the call was immediately connected.
"Boss." A respectful yet efficient voice came from the other end of the line.
"It's me."
Zhu Jin lowered his voice, "Listen, for the next month, strengthen vigilance in the surrounding area. If a helicopter approaches within fifty nautical miles, report to me immediately."
"Yes, we will guard it strictly and not let anyone in!"
“Also,” Zhu Jin’s eyes were icy, “you should keep an eye on everything that Zhao Mobai and Madam Su are doing, as I instructed before.”
"Understood!" the subordinate replied.
Zhu Jin hung up the phone, put the satellite phone back where it was, went back to bed, and resumed his weak and powerless posture, as if he had never left.
He had barely settled down when Shen Shuangmiao brought in a bowl of fragrant porridge.
"The porridge is ready, have some while it's hot."
She placed the bowl of porridge on the bedside table.
Zhu Jin struggled to sit up, but seemed to have no strength. He tried several times but fell back down and started coughing.
Seeing him like this, Shen Shuangmiao sighed and finally softened.
She stepped forward, took a pillow and placed it behind Zhu Jin, then helped him slowly sit up.
"Thanks."
Zhu Jin thanked him in a hoarse voice, his gaze fixed on the bowl of porridge. He reached out his hand, but his fingers trembled slightly, and he didn't even have the strength to pick up the spoon.
He tried several times, the spoon making a crisp sound as it hit the rim of the bowl, but he still couldn't steadily scoop up a spoonful of porridge.
Shen Shuangmiao stood by the bed, somewhat unable to bear watching his clumsy and laborious movements, and began to hesitate, pursing her lips.
Zhu Jin tried several times, and his hand, wrapped in gauze, began to bleed.
Shen Shuangmiao's heart sank, but she still stepped forward to take the bowl.
"I'll do it."
She sat on the edge of the bed, gently stirring the scalding hot porridge with a spoon, scooped up a spoonful, carefully blew on it, and brought it to Zhu Jin's lips.
Zhu Jin was slightly taken aback and looked up at her.
Under the bedside lamp, her face appeared exceptionally beautiful and gentle, the same face he had always loved and both loved and hated.
Zhu Jin's eyes were filled with mixed emotions. He obediently opened his mouth and took the spoonful of warm porridge into his mouth.
Neither of them spoke; the only sounds were the occasional soft clinking of a spoon against a bowl and the faint sound of him swallowing.
Shen Shuangmiao looked at him intently, as if she were simply completing a necessary task, without any concern or emotion involved.
Zhu Jin's gaze lingered on her face, as if he could never get enough of looking at her.
After finishing the bowl of porridge, Shen Shuangmiao broke out in a sweat.
She put down her bowl and spoon, picked up a tissue, and subconsciously wanted to wipe Zhu Jin's mouth, but stopped halfway through her hand and then awkwardly stuffed the tissue into his hand.
"You can wipe it yourself. Get some rest."
After saying that, Shen Shuangmiao picked up the empty bowl, turned around and left the bedroom.
Watching her departing figure, Zhu Jin gripped the paper tightly.
He raised his hand, looking at the faint blood seeping through the gauze, and a very faint smile appeared on his lips.
The self-inflicted injury strategy seems to be working well.
Meanwhile, on the other side...
After receiving the satellite phone call, Zhao Mobai, despite his reluctance, ultimately suppressed the urge to go find the person.
He invited Zhou Wu and Fu Xuan to the Su family's old residence and told them about the matter.
"That's the situation. Shuangmiao means we should wait for this month."
Zhao Mobai sighed, "She said it's a good breakup."
"A clean break?" Zhou Wu almost immediately scoffed.
Her eyes were filled with a chilling, all-knowing gaze.
"Zhao Mobai, do you really believe that Zhu Jin will let go? He meticulously planned such a huge scheme, kidnapping someone to that godforsaken island, just to exchange for a month of time together, and then obediently send the person back?"
"When did you become so naive? Or do you think Zhu Jin is this naive?"
Madam Su frowned but remained silent.
Zhou Wu said without hesitation, "Zhu Jin is definitely using a strategy of retreat to advance. He needs to keep Shen Shuangmiao calm. This month is just him buying time."
Fu Xuan looked up and asked, "Strive for what?"
"Either we find a way to make Shen Shuangmiao stay willingly, or we're planning a better way. We must find them as soon as possible!" Zhou Wu said firmly.
