Chapter 134 I fell asleep leaning against him

Chapter 134 I fell asleep leaning against him

Zhu Jin was very focused while taking the photo, and her eyes were gentler than she had ever seen before.

Shen Shuangmiao felt a little awkward and wanted to deny their relationship.

The older woman, however, had already enthusiastically picked up her camera.

"Come on, let me take a picture of you two together. You look so good together, it would be a shame not to take one!"

Shen Shuangmiao instinctively wanted to refuse, but Zhu Jin had already walked over and stood beside her.

He gently put his arm around Shen Shuangmiao's shoulder.

With a click, the image froze.

In the photo, Shen Shuangmiao's expression is somewhat stiff and unnatural, but they still look quite well-matched.

Zhu Jin glanced at it several times, then turned off his phone.

"Let's go, let's go to the next place."

Shen Shuangmiao went to see a folk performance with him.

It started with a lively dance, and then suddenly they started performing the next piece.

It is a dance between a mother and her child.

Shen Shuangmiao stared blankly at the female dancer's performance of protecting the child, her smile gradually freezing.

She unconsciously clutched her stomach.

That little life that briefly existed in her womb, but which she ultimately gave up with her own hands.

Tears welled up in Shen Shuangmiao's eyes, sliding down her cheeks and dripping onto the back of her hand.

Soon, the performance ended amidst enthusiastic applause, and the crowd began to leave noisily.

Shen Shuangmiao, however, seemed to be nailed to her seat, remaining completely still.

It wasn't until Zhu Jin touched her arm with concern that she snapped out of her daze and walked out of the performance venue in a daze.

Shen Shuangmiao stopped when she reached a less crowded area, looked up, and gazed at the silent man beside her.

Her voice choked with sobs: "Zhu Jin, was it too impulsive of me to abort the child back then? Did I do something wrong?"

If she had persisted a little longer, if she had left the child behind despite her insistence on leaving, would the outcome have been different?

Zhu Jin's body visibly stiffened for a moment.

Looking at her red and swollen eyes, he felt a heartache so intense he could hardly breathe.

Zhu Jin took a deep breath: "No, you're not wrong, I'm the one who's wrong. I'm the bastard. I didn't believe you and forced you to turn back in that way, pushing you to the brink."

"I should have let you go back then."

He offered no defense of himself, taking all the blame upon himself.

Zhu Jin knew that the loss of that child was a wound he had personally inflicted on her, a wound that would never heal.

He blamed himself for the mistake.

Shen Shuangmiao pursed her lips, looking at the regret and self-blame in Zhu Jin's eyes, and became somewhat out of control.

She didn't burst into tears, but her tears flowed even more fiercely, and her body trembled slightly.

Zhu Jin reached out and gently pulled her into his arms.

This time, Shen Shuangmiao did not struggle, but rested her forehead on his shoulder.

She seemed to have exhausted all her strength, and in this unfamiliar street, she rarely showed vulnerability.

But for some reason, in Zhu Jin's arms, she felt as if something had landed on the ground.

On the way, Shen Shuangmiao's consciousness gradually blurred, and she leaned on his shoulder and fell into a deep sleep.

Zhu Jin listened to her even breathing, his heart filled with mixed emotions.

He carefully adjusted his posture and drove back to the parking lot.

It was late at night when we got back to the island.

Shen Shuangmiao's emotions fluctuated wildly, and after being exposed to the night wind, she developed a high fever that very night.

She was in a daze, feeling burning hot all over, with a splitting headache, and her consciousness fluctuating between clear and blurry.

In a daze, Shen Shuangmiao felt someone gently wiping her forehead and arms with a damp towel.

Then someone helped her up and carefully fed her water and medicine.

After taking her medicine, Shen Shuangmiao went back to sleep, and then she felt a pair of warm hands holding hers tightly.

She was trapped in a bizarre dream, one moment seeing Zhu Jin's smile from university, the next his cold, questioning gaze.

The scene shifts to the cold lights of an operating table, then back to the lively atmosphere of a market.

In her dream, Shen Shuang laughed and cried, and talked in her sleep countless times.

When she was fully awake again, it was already the afternoon of the next day.

She opened her heavy eyelids and saw a kind-looking doctor in a white coat taking her temperature.

"You're awake? How are you feeling? Your fever has gone down quite a bit," the doctor said gently.

Shen Shuangmiao nodded weakly, her throat dry: "I'm fine, thank you."

She instinctively looked for that figure.

"Mr. Zhu went to the kitchen to prepare food for you. He has been watching over you for a day and a night, and we just persuaded him to go and rest."

The doctor saw through her thoughts and explained with a smile.

One day and one night...

Shen Shuangmiao's heart stirred slightly.

After completing the examination, the doctor packed up his instruments and prepared to leave.

Just then, a flash of inspiration struck Shen Shuangmiao, and she remembered what had happened yesterday.

She hesitated for a moment, then softly called out to the doctor, "Doctor, do you know of any organization whose logo is the letter M? What does it do?"

The doctor paused noticeably for a moment, a fleeting, unnatural look crossing his face.

He quickly covered it up, but Shen Shuangmiao still keenly noticed it.

“M?”

The doctor pushed up his glasses, his tone puzzled. "I'm not quite sure. I recognize most of the local medical institution logos, but I've never heard of this one. It might be an overseas or private institution."

He looked at Shen Shuangmiao, his tone concerned, "Why are you asking about this? Are you feeling unwell?"

"No, no." Shen Shuangmiao suppressed her doubts and gave a weak smile. "I just saw it by chance and was a little curious. Thank you for your help."

The doctor nodded: "You should rest well. I'll go and prepare some medicine for you to drink."

After saying that, he picked up his medicine box and left.

Watching the doctor's departing figure, Shen Shuangmiao's heart sank.

The doctor's reaction clearly indicated that he knew something but was deliberately avoiding the question.

She thought for a moment, struggled to get up, took out all the cash from a small bag she had brought with her, and folded it neatly.

When the doctor came over again, Shen Shuangmiao immediately stuffed the folded cash into the pocket of his white coat.

"Doctor, this is just a small token of my appreciation, thank you for your help."

She lowered her voice, "If you can help me find any information about Organization M, I would be very grateful."

The doctor paused for a moment, felt the thickness of the pocket, and a hint of hesitation and struggle flashed across his face.

In the end, he nodded slightly, neither refusing nor explicitly agreeing.

The doctor said in a low voice, "I'll try my best."

Shen Shuang smiled and leaned against the headboard, lost in thought.

After leaving the villa, the doctor did not go far; he went directly to find Zhu Jin.

"Mr. Zhu, Miss Shen just asked me about Organization M," he reported respectfully.

Zhu Jin was silent for a moment, his voice devoid of emotion: "How did she know?"

"It seems they saw something from the person who visited yesterday."

The doctor answered truthfully, "I followed your instructions and did not reveal any information, but she did not seem to fully believe me. She even gave me some money, hoping I could help her with the investigation."

Zhu Jin chuckled and put down the spatula in his hand.

His laughter carried a hint of self-deprecation and coldness.

"Just find a plausible excuse and get away with it."

Zhu Jin's tone left no room for doubt: "Don't let her become suspicious again."

"Yes, I understand."
