Chapter 60 Severing All Bonds
Zhu Jin got out of the car and went straight inside.
When he arrived, the studio staff looked at each other in surprise.
"Um, our boss isn't here."
Someone mustered up the courage to say something.
Zhu Jin looked at the person and asked, "Where did you go?"
The employee replied, "I don't know, but anyway, I went to the hospital with our Manager Fu for some reason."
Zhu Jin frowned slightly, then turned and left.
Hospital.
There was no sun outside the window; it was a very oppressive, gloomy day.
Shen Shuangmiao's face was deathly pale. She sat on a cold plastic chair in the corridor, clutching the thin consent form for an abortion in her hand.
She unconsciously clenched the thin piece of paper, each word on it feeling like a needle pricking her eyes.
"If you are about three and a half weeks pregnant and voluntarily terminate your pregnancy, you need to be aware of the potential risks."
Risk? What risk in her life could be worse than what she's facing now?
Fu Xuan sat quietly beside her, his eyes filled with worry and sorrow.
He watched as Shen Shuangmiao stared at the paper, looking utterly lost, as if her soul had been ripped away, leaving only a fragile shell sitting there.
Time passed by, second by second.
The nurse has already come to urge them once.
"Miaomiao," Fu Xuan finally spoke, his voice low and gentle, with a hint of barely perceptible caution, "Sign it."
Shen Shuangmiao's eyelashes trembled slightly, but she did not respond.
“I know this is difficult,” Fu Xuan continued, carefully choosing each word so as not to hurt her.
"This child came at the worst possible time. It binds you to the past, to the person who caused you pain. If you keep him, the road ahead will be difficult. Every day you're heavily pregnant, you'll think about your ill-fated relationship with Zhu Jin. Why bother?"
His words were like a dull knife, slowly cutting open Shen Shuangmiao's already numb heart.
Yes, Zhu Jin's indifference and humiliation, his ruthlessness in framing her studio, and his upcoming engagement to Zhou Wu...
Every single thing she did was a source of harm and torment.
Despair surged again, drowning out any lingering reluctance Shen Shuangmiao felt because of the child.
Fu Xuan watched as the emotions churned violently in her eyes, only to be ultimately covered by a cold, resolute expression.
He felt both relieved and saddened for her.
Fu Xuan reached out and gently covered Shen Shuangmiao's cold hand, offering her a little bit of support.
"Break it off, Miaomiao. Only by cutting it off completely can you truly start anew. This decision will be painful, but a short, sharp pain is worse than a long, drawn-out one."
As soon as he finished speaking, Shen Shuangmiao seemed to have finally made up her mind.
She took a deep breath, as if using all her strength, and picked up the pen left by the nurse next to her.
Shen Shuangmiao's fingertips trembled slightly as she made her first stroke, almost piercing the paper.
She wrote the three characters neatly and correctly, using all her strength.
In those few seconds, she thought of herself and Zhu Jin lying on the grass looking at the stars, pointing to the three brightest stars and saying that they were their children, waiting in line to come into her womb and into their lives.
Zhu Jin turned over, his eyes seemingly filled with stars, and told her that he would be the happiest person in the world. Then he kissed her lips solemnly and devoutly.
Everything was like fleeting clouds, only the surgical consent form before my eyes became increasingly clear.
After signing the document, Shen Shuangmiao seemed to have all her strength drained away.
The pen slipped from my fingertips and fell to the ground with a soft thud.
She closed her eyes, leaned back in her chair, and her face was as white as a sheet of paper.
The nurse quickly came over, took away the consent form, and professionally guided her: "Ms. Chen, please come with me to prepare for the operation."
Shen Shuangmiao stood up, her steps somewhat unsteady.
Fu Xuan tried to help her up, but she gently shook her head, indicating that she was fine. She walked step by step toward the door leading to the operating room, her back view slender yet resolute.
It was as if she was heading not to a surgery, but to an execution ground for her past.
Fu Xuan watched as Shen Shuangmiao disappeared behind the door.
The door slowly closed, cutting off his view.
He sat back down on the bench, his hands clasped together and pressed against his forehead, his heart heavy beyond measure.
Time seemed to drag on endlessly as we waited. The corridor reeked of disinfectant.
Occasionally, nurses would enter and exit the operating room, and the faint sounds of instruments could be heard as the door opened and closed.
Each sound made Fu Xuan's heart clench.
After an unknown amount of time, the operating room door opened again.
The nurse pushed out a mobile bed, and Shen Shuangmiao lay on it, covered with a thin white blanket.
Her eyes were tightly closed, her long eyelashes still stained with wet tears, her face was pale, and she looked as fragile as a porcelain doll that could be broken at the slightest touch.
Fu Xuan immediately got up to greet her and, together with the nurse, pushed her back to the temporary observation ward and transferred her to a hospital bed.
The nurse gave a few instructions and then left.
Only the two of them remained in the ward, and it was completely silent.
Shen Shuangmiao slowly opened her eyes, staring at the ceiling, her gaze still empty and unfocused.
After a while, large tears silently slid down her cheeks and quickly disappeared into the hair by her ears.
Shen Shuangmiao raised her hand and gently placed it on her still flat stomach.
There, a tiny life was once quietly conceived.
And now, there's nothing left.
A belated sense of loss welled up inside me.
Shen Shuangmiao trembled uncontrollably.
"sorry……"
She murmured to herself, her voice so broken it was almost inaudible, "I'm sorry, baby, Mommy is so sorry..."
Fu Xuan sat on the edge of the bed, watching her silently shed tears, his heart aching.
He took out a tissue and carefully wiped away her tears, his voice so gentle it was almost dripping with tenderness.
"Don't cry, Miaomiao, it's all in the past... It's not your fault, it's just bad timing, it's fate playing tricks on you. You just made the most responsible choice for yourself."
He knew that words would be inadequate at this moment, but he couldn't help but comfort her.
"Take good care of yourself, everything will be alright. Once you've recovered, the studio can start over, you can leave here, go somewhere without him, and everything can begin anew..."
Fu Xuan kept talking, trying to ease her sadness at the moment.
Shen Shuangmiao remained silent, but her emotions calmed down slightly.
She was tired and just lay there silently.
"Thank you, I feel much better. Anyway, no matter how bad it is now, it will pass."
Upon hearing this, Fu Xuan felt a little uneasy.
Language is powerless in the present moment.
Fu Xuan said softly, "You haven't eaten all day. I'll go buy you some light porridge and side dishes. Eat a little something so you can have the strength to recover. You should lie down and rest. I'll be back soon."
Shen Shuangmiao nodded gently.
Fu Xuan tucked the blanket around her, glanced at her pale face, and then turned and gently closed the ward door before leaving.
The sound of his footsteps fading into the distance echoed down the corridor.
The ward was completely quiet, with only the soft ticking of the instruments and the faint sound of traffic outside the window.
Shen Shuangmiao closed her eyes wearily, utterly exhausted.
However, less than five minutes after Fu Xuan left.
The door to the ward was slammed open from the outside.
