Chapter 69 Dissolving the Engagement
Zhu Jin stood there, silently watching her, his throat bobbing.
He seemed to want to say something; his lips moved, but in the end, he didn't utter a single word.
Zhu Jin gave Shen Shuangmiao a deep look.
For some reason, Shen Shuangmiao suddenly felt that his gaze was so complex that it made her heart ache.
There seemed to be a kind of stubbornness that she couldn't understand.
"Okay, I... I won't bother you anymore."
Zhu Jin turned around, silently opened the door, and walked out.
The door was gently closed, shutting out his departing figure.
The room returned to silence, leaving only Shen Shuangmiao alone.
She collapsed onto the edge of the bed, utterly exhausted, tears streaming silently down her face.
Shen Shuangmiao buried her face in her knees, her shoulders trembling violently.
She cried uncontrollably. For the child she couldn't have, and for her own heart that had been trampled on.
How could she be so blind as to love Zhu Jin?
Just then, the phone on the bedside table vibrated.
Shen Shuangmiao didn't want to accept the invitation; she didn't want anyone to see her embarrassment and vulnerability.
She took a few deep breaths, trying to calm herself down, and forcefully wiped away the tears on her face before pressing the answer button.
"Hello?"
Fu Xuan on the other end of the phone was silent for a moment.
"Miaomiao?"
His voice was filled with concern.
"You cried?"
"No."
Shen Shuangmiao subconsciously denied it, but her voice choked with emotion.
"I just have a bit of a cold."
Fu Xuan's voice turned somber.
"He came to see you, didn't he?"
Did Zhu Jin bully you?
Shen Shuangmiao remained silent.
Fu Xuan muttered a curse under his breath.
"That bastard! What does he want?!"
What are the security guards at the Su family's place doing? Immediately tell the old lady to increase security; they absolutely cannot let him break in again!
Shen Shuangmiao sniffed.
"Yes, I will tell Grandma."
She paused, remembering another important matter.
"Fu Xuan, Grandma has already taken care of the studio issue."
"Zhu Jin should stop suppressing us now."
Her voice gradually calmed down, carrying the weariness of someone who had survived a close call.
"The project we discussed before can continue."
"I can't stay cooped up at the Su family home forever; I need to work."
She needs to reclaim her life.
That's how you feel like there's something to look forward to in life.
Fu Xuan immediately understood what she meant.
His tone became firm.
"I've been waiting for you to say that!"
"I haven't given up on the studio; the preliminary preparations are still ongoing."
"We're just waiting for you to come back and take charge. We're confident we can make it happen!"
Shen Shuangmiao felt a warm feeling in her heart.
"good."
She replied softly, "I'll go to the studio tomorrow."
the next day.
Shen Shuangmiao, dressed in a neat white suit dress, walked into the long-unvisited studio.
"boss!"
"Boss, you're back!"
When the employees saw Shen Shuangmiao, they were first stunned, then burst into enthusiastic cheers.
Everyone gathered around, their faces beaming with genuine smiles.
"Great! You're finally back! We knew the studio wouldn't go out of business!"
"Boss, we've been waiting for you for ages!"
As Shen Shuangmiao looked at the familiar and enthusiastic faces of her employees, her eyes welled up with tears.
This is her battlefield.
If it weren't for Zhu Jin's deliberate suppression, they would already be in an office building, having upgraded from a studio to a company.
Thank you everyone.
Shen Shuangmiao revealed a genuine smile.
"I'm back."
"From now on, let's work together to make the studio even better."
The crowd cheered.
However, this excitement was quickly shattered.
Gao Lan, carrying a large bouquet of red roses, walked over hesitantly.
"Boss, here are your flowers, but they're unsigned."
Shen Shuangmiao's gaze fell on that large, dazzling red.
The smile on her face vanished instantly, and her eyes turned cold.
She didn't need to guess; she knew who sent it.
"I threw it away."
She didn't hesitate at all, her voice calm.
Gao Lan was stunned for a moment.
"Ah? But these flowers..."
I said, "I threw it away."
Shen Shuangmiao repeated herself, her tone leaving no room for doubt.
"From now on, any anonymously sent items should be disposed of without showing them to me."
"Yes, boss."
Gao Lan dared not say anything more and hurriedly left with the expensive bouquet of flowers.
at the same time.
The president's office on the top floor of the Zhu Group building.
The subordinate reported respectfully.
"Mr. Zhu, Miss Chen threw away the flowers."
Behind the huge desk, Zhu Jin leaned back in his chair.
Upon hearing the news, he showed no expression, as if he had expected it.
Zhu Jin's fingers, which were resting on the armrest, tightened slightly.
"knew."
His voice was low and deep. "Change to something else."
"Send over a grand opening gift."
Zhu Jin paused for a moment, then took out a document that he had prepared beforehand from the drawer.
"Send this investment support contract over as well."
The subordinate took the document and was startled to see that the terms were almost entirely unilateral concessions.
"Mr. Zhu, this..."
Do as instructed.
Zhu Jin interrupted him, his tone domineering.
"……yes."
The assistant didn't dare ask any more questions and bowed as he withdrew.
The office door had barely closed when there was another knock.
"Enter."
Zhu Jin didn't even raise his head.
Zhou Wu pushed open the door and walked in.
She was dressed exceptionally well today, with a gentle smile on her face.
"Ah Jin, where did you go after the banquet last night?"
She walked to the desk, her tone carrying a hint of affectionate reproach.
"I've been looking for you for ages. Didn't we agree to discuss our wedding today?"
Zhou Wu leaned forward slightly, looking at Zhu Jin with expectant eyes.
"There are still many details to finalize with the hotel. When do you think would be a good time to do it?"
Upon hearing this, Zhu Jin finally raised his head to look at her, his eyes devoid of any warmth.
He parted his thin lips slightly, "The engagement is null and void."
Zhou Wu's smile froze instantly.
She seemed not to have heard clearly and couldn't believe what she had heard.
"Ah Jin, what did you say?"
-
Zhu Jin looked at her face, which had turned deathly pale, and spoke cruelly.
"I say, our engagement is null and void."
Zhou Wu staggered slightly and steadied himself on the desk.
Her fingertips turned white from gripping the pressure. "Why...why?"
"Zhu Jin, you can't do this to me!"
Zhou Wu's eyes quickly filled with tears: "If it weren't for Shen Shuangmiao interfering, I could have married you smoothly!"
Her emotions suddenly erupted, "But what was the result? I was forced to marry your brother, who's in a wheelchair and can't even stand up!"
Zhu Jin frowned.
"I've been waiting for you, waiting for you to give me an explanation, waiting for you to keep your promise and marry me!"
Zhou Wu's tears streamed down her face. "Now everyone knows we're getting married, what am I supposed to do? Make me the laughingstock of the entire industry?"
Zhu Jin watched her cry uncontrollably, his eyes showing no emotion whatsoever.
"Explain?"
A slight smile curved his thin lips.
When did I ever make you a promise?
His voice wasn't loud, but it was like a knife, piercing straight into Zhou Wu's heart.
“Even if Shen Shuangmiao hadn’t appeared back then, I would still have destroyed the engagement on the spot at that so-called engagement banquet.”
Zhou Wu's pupils suddenly contracted.
