Chapter 53, Rescue

Chapter 53, Rescue

"Sister Zhimu!"

Bai Ge's voice trembled slightly, and Wen Hanyun struggled to raise her head, her vision filled with a blinding spot of light.

It took her a while to adjust before she saw Yu Zhimu fall to the ground, his back pinned down by the lightbox.

Wen Hanyun had several cuts on her arm, but she didn't have time to worry about her injuries and rushed towards Yu Zhimu.

Blood was seeping from the back of her neck, spreading a bright red stain on the floor.

"She's bleeding!"

Wen Hanyun suddenly felt her hands and feet turn cold. She tried to push away the lightbox that was pressing down on Yu Zhimu, but Yan Sheng held her tightly.

“She wasn’t pinned down, she was knocked down,” his voice was tense. “Don’t touch her, don’t cause further injury!”

As he spoke, he quickly took off his coat and placed it behind Yu Zhimu's neck, while taking out his phone to dial an emergency number.

"An object has fallen from the stage of the Starry Sky Theater. Some people are seriously injured and need urgent rescue!"

The staff on both sides of the stage rushed up, and Qin Ling followed.

Upon seeing the scene before her, tears instantly streamed down her face: "Sister! How are you?"

Yu Zhimu's face was pale, and his lips trembled, but he still forced a smile at Wen Hanyun, trying to appear strong. "Don't cry, it's good that you're not hurt..."

She raised her hand, seemingly wanting to soothe Wen Hanyun's face, but her arm was completely immobile. She could only gasp for breath and look at the band members who had gathered around her.

"I'm fine, just a little dizzy."

Bai Ge nodded, her voice choked with emotion, "Sister Zhimu, hang in there, the ambulance is on its way!"

Wieland quickly evacuated the panicked front-row audience and had staff set up a cordon.

He crouched down to examine Yu Zhimu's condition, his face looking rather grim. "A cervical spine injury, it looks... like it might be a fracture."

Wen Hanyun knelt on the ground, tightly holding Yu Zhimu's cold hand, tears falling like broken beads. "Sister Zhimu, I'm sorry, it's all because of me."

Yu Zhimu was originally standing at the back, but if it weren't for saving her...

"Hanyun, don't cry," Yu Zhimu's voice grew softer and softer, her breathing weaker. Her gaze swept over the band members, finally settling on Wen Hanyun's face again. "Promise me, no matter what happens to me, you must continue this band..."

Before she could finish speaking, everything went black, and she lost consciousness completely.

The ambulance siren grew louder as it approached. Medical staff rushed onto the stage with a stretcher, carefully moved Yu Zhimu from under the lightbox, stabilized his cervical spine, and quickly lifted him into the ambulance.

Just as the group was about to board the train, they were stopped by medical staff. "Only one family member can go. The patient's condition is critical, and we need to keep the carriage quiet."

“I’ll go,” Wen Hanyun said firmly. “A-Ling, bring everyone to the hospital. Yan Sheng… can you take care of them for me?”

Yan Sheng nodded, watching the ambulance speed away, then turned to the staff and asked seriously, "Who is responsible for inspecting the stage equipment?"

"How could the lightbox suddenly fall down!"

The staff present seemed quite frightened, and they couldn't get any information out of them for the time being.

Wen Hanyun sat beside the ambulance stretcher, holding Yu Zhimu's hand tightly, feeling the warmth slowly fading away.

The doctor beside her seemed used to these scenes of life and death, and did not stop her from touching the object, but simply comforted her in a low voice: "It will be alright, she is in good health, she will definitely pull through."

But these comforting words had no effect on Wen Hanyun. Every sound from the heart rate monitor was like a knife stabbing into her heart.

Upon arriving at the hospital, Yu Zhimu was immediately taken to the emergency room.

The moment the red light came on, Wen Hanyun's legs went weak, and she sat down on a bench in the corridor.

Yan Sheng, who arrived later, was heartbroken to see her curled up on a hospital bench.

He ran up the stairs, not even catching his breath, and knelt down in front of Wen Hanyun, gently wiping away the tears on her face.

“I’ve already sent people to investigate,” Yan Sheng’s voice was deep, carrying a reassuring quality. “The screws securing the lightbox have been tampered with, and the stage incident… is probably not an accident.”

Wen Hanyun suddenly looked up at him, her eyes blurry with tears, "Who...who is it?"

“It’s most likely someone from the Yan family,” Yan Sheng said, gripping her hand tightly. “Judging from the direction the lightbox fell, it was probably meant to target you or me.”

"The person who started this didn't expect your friend to take the fall for you."

Wen Hanyun's heart was instantly overwhelmed with regret. If it weren't for her, Yu Zhimu wouldn't have gotten into trouble...

It was because she joined Yu Zhimu's band that she was mistakenly hurt by others.

She nestled in Yan Sheng's arms, sobbing, "It's all my fault... I'm the one who hurt her."

“It’s not your fault,” Yan Sheng said, putting his arm around her and patting her back gently. “It’s those people’s methods that were too despicable.”

"Don't worry, I will definitely find out the truth about this and make the murderer pay the price."

The others arrived at the hospital quickly, and the atmosphere in the corridor became extremely oppressive.

Bai Ge's eyes were red, clearly indicating that she had already learned about the suspicious parts of what she had heard from Yan Sheng on the way.

"Who on earth would do such a cruel thing to someone as kind as Sister Zhimu?"

Willand leaned against the wall, his face terribly grim.

Currently, in addition to Yan Sheng's investigation, he has also contacted his network of contacts to retrieve the Grand Theater's surveillance footage. Preliminary findings indicate that some theater staff members sneaked backstage before the performance and tampered with the light boxes.

“I’ve already sent people to track down those people,” he said, looking at Wen Hanyun. “Don’t worry about anything else. All we can do now is wait for her to wake up.”

They waited all night, but the emergency room lights never went out.

As dawn approached, the attending physician finally emerged, exhausted.

He took off his mask and shook his head regretfully at the crowd that had gathered around him: "I'm sorry, we did our best."

"What?!" Wen Hanyun was struck dumb, staggering back two steps. "Impossible... Doctor, please save her again, she's just lost too much blood!"

“There’s no chance,” the assistant doctor next to him shook his head. “The patient had a burst fracture of the cervical spine, which damaged the spinal cord. There was massive bleeding during the operation, and he could not be saved.”

“We really did our best,” the attending physician sighed. “Please accept our condolences.”

Before the words were finished, the door to the emergency room was pushed open, and a stretcher covered with a white sheet was wheeled out.

"Sister Zhimu..."

Bai Ge covered her face and squatted on the ground, her shoulders trembling violently.

Willand closed his eyes and took a deep breath.
