Chapter 3, The Living Yama Who Remains Aloof from Women

Chapter 3, The Living Yama Who Remains Aloof from Women

"I'm talking about you..."

Upon finally seeing the face of the 'adulter,' Yan Zhe's body trembled, and his voice rose eight octaves.

"Uncle??!"

Hearing his nonsense, Yan Sheng's face darkened even more, and he increased the pressure on his hands.

"Say it again, who are you insulting?"

Yan Zhe finally woke up belatedly, a chill suddenly rising within him. He was so regretful that he wished he could go back five minutes and slap himself hard a few times.

Oh no, how did he accidentally offend this living devil!

Wen Hanyun only had a vague understanding of Yan Sheng, but Yan Zhe, as a member of the Yan family, knew Chu Yan Sheng's personality and methods all too well.

Yansheng is the youngest son of Old Master Yan.

The old man never married, adhering to the principle that children could be born, but the woman of the house didn't need to. Therefore, the four brothers of the Yan family all came from similar backgrounds, with no distinction between legitimate and illegitimate children.

Growing up in an environment lacking maternal love, Yansheng was by nature a cold-hearted person.

Moreover, he was the youngest at the time, while his other older brothers were already capable of serving him, so the old man naturally didn't pay much attention to him and rarely cared about him.

Despite being overlooked, Yan Sheng, in his late teens or early twenties, overthrew several of his older brothers and secured his position as the heir of the Yan family on his own.

After officially taking over the Yan family, he implemented sweeping reforms, sending a large number of the company's veterans to prison, and even bankrupting several second-generation heirs who had bullied him during their school days.

His ruthless methods made him someone no one dared to provoke, even in the prestigious business district of City A, where wealthy families were numerous; people were terrified of him.

"Uncle, I was wrong. I was cursing myself. I'm the real bastard! I was blind, I had a foul mouth. I really didn't know it was you. I thought it was Wen Hanyun..."

He paused in his speech.

Wen Hanyun was secretly smiling with pleasure when she heard him cursing himself, but her face immediately turned cold when she heard his pointed words.

"What do you take me for?" She stepped forward, looking down at Yanzhe.

Did he think that Wen Hanyun would cheat on him like he did?

She took a deep breath, swallowed the rest of her sentence, and a mocking smile curled at the corner of her lips.

"No, no!"

"Han Yun~"

"How could I doubt you? I just thought... yes, I thought someone was plotting against you and I was afraid you were in danger!"

He hurriedly explained, unaware that he had inadvertently given himself away.

Yan Zhe quickly glossed over the phrase "plotting something sinister," but it always left people with a sense that there was more to it than met the eye.

And that "Han Yun" with its several twists and turns in tone made Yan Sheng particularly unhappy.

"Ouch, Uncle, stop pinching me! Your hand's going to break!"

"Hanyun, say something!"

Yanzhe cried out in pain and struggled violently, slamming his other hand against the roof of the car.

Why is he getting more and more forceful? He already apologized!

Seeing Wen Hanyun take a half-step back with a nonchalant sneer, Yan Sheng finally let go, reverting to his calm and indifferent demeanor.

"I'll teach you a lesson this time. If it happens again, I won't hesitate to cripple you."

Yan Zhe crossed his arms and grimaced. Perhaps it was a man's intuition, but his eyes darted around as he looked at the two people who had returned together, still feeling that something was not quite right.

He couldn't help but ask, "Uncle, how come you're with Hanyun?"

“My uncle went to a banquet and saw me waiting for you alone in the restaurant, so he treated me to a meal and then brought me back.”

Wen Hanyun didn't want to implicate her elders and cause them to be misunderstood, so she took the initiative to explain.

"is that so?"

Yan Zhe still found it strange. In the past, there were young ladies from various families who were eager to climb into Yan Sheng's bed, but their fates were all tragic, which is why the reputation of the "Living Yama" being indifferent to women spread.

Would he be as kind-hearted as Wen Hanyun described?

"Is this the kind of upbringing the Yan family is in that you'd abandon your fiancée and stand someone up at the last minute? Are you that busy?"

Yan Sheng returned his gaze without any attempt to hide it.

Yanzhe panicked, fearing his lie would be exposed, and quickly agreed.

"Yes, Uncle is right. It was all my fault tonight. I'm here to make it up to my fiancée."

He turned to Wen Hanyun, looking deeply affectionate.

"Hanyun, don't be angry. I'll make it up to you however you want."

Wen Hanyun found it both funny and pathetic.

When the lies shattered the filter on Yan Zhe, she realized how utterly hypocritical he was, how much of his past affection was real, or whether it was all just a pretense.

She tilted her head to hide her slightly flustered expression. "I'm tired. Let's talk another day."

After saying that, she turned and walked towards the stairwell, no longer caring about being impolite.

Yan Sheng's eyebrows twitched slightly, and he was about to take a step when Yan Zhe blocked his way.

"Uncle, I'll go see her off. After all, she's my fiancée..."

The last sentence was emphasized, as if a male were marking out his territory and declaring ownership.

"Now that you know she's your fiancée, you should behave yourself. I don't want the Yan family to be embroiled in any scandals because of you."

Yan Sheng gave him a warning glance in a calm tone, then turned and opened the car door.

After receiving another scolding, Yan Zhe's expression stiffened, and he gritted his teeth.

"Uncle, take care. I'll go and comfort Hanyun right away."

He seemed to want to turn the tables with those words, but after saying them, he didn't dare linger and immediately turned and ran into the stairwell.

Yan Sheng stared at his retreating figure, his eyes deep and unfathomable, his fingertips lightly tapping the steering wheel, once, twice...

This is a gesture he often makes when he's thinking.

Finally, when a light came on in a dark window on the third floor, he started the car and drove away from the residential area.

Wen Hanyun collapsed onto the sofa, feeling utterly exhausted, but even more tired than her body was her heart, riddled with wounds.

It was heavy, like being locked in a stuffy oven, unable to breathe, and constantly being crushed.

She stared blankly at the ceiling.

Just then, the doorbell rang.

She knew who it was, but her body and mind were screaming in resistance. She didn't want to see this person, nor did she want to have any further contact with anything related to him.

I just want to curl up in my room, space out for a while, take a nap, be quiet, and not think about anything.

The doorbell rang incessantly. It was almost midnight, and the soundproofing in the old neighborhood was already poor, making the sound especially jarring in the quiet night.

Never mind, I can't let it bother the neighbors...

This single reason made her struggle to get up and open the door.

As expected, it was Yan Zhe's face that made her want to vomit.

"Hanyun, I was wrong today. I neglected you. Look what I prepared for you."

He pulled a box out from behind his back, inside which was a four-inch cake.

Because it wasn't properly protected, the edges of the cake were smeared with the transparent packaging box, and a layer of cream was smeared on it, making it look messy, just like her today.

"Well, I was in such a hurry to see you that I ran a little too fast. Although it doesn't look very appetizing, it still tastes the same."

He offered an awkward explanation.

"Won't you invite me in? I'll eat with you, okay?"
