Chapter 18: Identity Undetermined

Qin Wan looked at Lu Yan in astonishment, opening and closing her mouth. After a moment, she finally spoke, "That's the Crown Prince. You're slandering him in public. I wonder if an imperial censor might happen to be here and impeach you?"

Lu Yan looked at her bright face, his teeth itching with hatred. He wanted to curse, but was afraid of being impeached by the censor. He gritted his teeth and lowered his voice, "You want a divorce? Dream on!"

After Lu Yan finished speaking, he grabbed Bai Wanyi and turned to leave.

Zhenzhen and the other maids were furious. If they hadn't considered the occasion and their status, they would have cursed loudly. After holding it in for a long time, they could only utter two words: "Shameless!"

Qin Wan looked back at the maids who were furious and said with a smile, "There's no need for us to bother with fools. Don't make yourself angry."

"But Miss, your reputation is at risk." Zhenzhen stamped her feet anxiously.

Tao Yao pulled her back, turned to look at the people watching, and said seriously, "This is not the reputation of the young lady, this is the reputation of His Royal Highness the Crown Prince."

"Back then, the Marquis received urgent news and went to war before his wedding. On the day of the wedding, the Crown Prince, in order to demonstrate the royal family's grace, welcomed him personally. If any negative comments were to be spread because of this, it would be questioning Your Majesty's wisdom and would also bring discredit to the Crown Prince and the royal family."

Qin Wan nodded in appreciation, her eyes casually sweeping over the crowd. Seeing them all turning their heads away, not daring to meet her gaze, she knew they were also afraid. "Well said. I think everyone here is a wise and virtuous person. They certainly wouldn't gossip about the Crown Prince behind his back."

"Ah, it's a nice day today."

"Brother, this dress looks great."

Most of those who can come to this teahouse are either rich or noble, and they are all smart people. Upon hearing this, they immediately looked around and talked about other things, and dispersed as if nothing had happened.

The waiter came up quickly and bowed, saying, "Miss, please come this way."

Qin Wan followed the waiter out the back door and boarded the carriage.

Tao Yao took a step behind and handed the waiter a silver note: "This is a reward for you."

She saw it just now, and the waiter closed the door of the teahouse in time and evacuated most of the guests downstairs, so that no more people came to watch.

As for the damage caused to the teahouse today, only my young lady went to talk to the third young lady. The waiter really deserves a reward for his good eyesight.

"Oh, thank you very much, Miss!" The waiter happily took the banknote, helped Tao Yao onto the carriage, and watched them go away before unfolding the banknote in his hand.

Five taels!

He laughed so hard that his eyes went blind.

Qin Wan didn't miss Tao Yao's little trick. After she got in the car, she tapped her forehead and said with a smile, "Are we, the stingy ones, willing to pluck the feathers?"

"What are you talking about, young lady? He's clever, so I'll reward him on your behalf." Tao Yao covered her head and said, "Miss Third has suffered a lot of losses today. This Marquis is truly a prodigal son!"

Qin Wan nodded, quite agreeing with Tao Yao's words: "I'll pick out a headdress for Third Sister later. It's my pearl headdress. She has been wanting it for a long time."

Several girls were chattering in the carriage. The breeze blew through the curtains, revealing Qin Wan's bright and charming smile.

As the carriage left, a thin and stealthy figure hunched over, looked around, and then left as well.

In the restaurant across the street, Xie Qing saw the figure leave and gently closed the window. He asked casually, yet tentatively, "Mr. Yu, do you think the incident between the Marquis of Pingyang and his wife today was directed at me, or was it just a coincidence?"

Mr. Yu put one foot on the chair, swung the jade pendant he had just acquired with one hand, scratched his ear with the other, and rolled his eyes at Xie Qing: "I have heard a lot about Lord Lu, but I know very little about Miss Qin. How can I give you an answer?"

"You asked me to be your assistant in the Prince's Mansion, not to help you chase women. I can't give you an answer."

Xie Qing stared at the closed window with an icy, intimidating gaze. "Sir, you are wrong. Never underestimate women. Don't think that women's horizons are limited to the affairs of the inner chambers. When they get ruthless, they can be a fatal blow."

Mr. Yu was stunned for a moment, the jade pendant in his hand almost flying out. He grabbed the tassel under the jade pendant and pulled it back, scratching his fingers and said, "The prince is not young anymore, but there are no women in the inner chamber. What's going on? Did he suffer a great loss at the hands of a woman?"

Xie Qing turned and stared at Mr. Yu, his eyes becoming even colder: "Sir, don't ask questions that you shouldn't ask."

"Alright, alright, you're the master, you have the final say." Mr. Yu sighed, and then muttered "softly": "You're just the prince, I have no choice but to refuse, otherwise you'll see I pay attention to you!"

“Bang!”

Xie Qing crushed the teacup. He took out a handkerchief and wiped the tea and crumbs from his palm. He said lightly, "You don't have to say anything."

OK!

Mr. Yu manually shut himself up - pinching his lips and turning his back to Xie Qing.

Xie Qing stared at Mr. Yu's back and took a deep breath. He had condescended to invite him here. He had invited him here himself. He couldn't be angry, he couldn't be angry!

Qin Wan discussed the same issue with several maids along the way, and they were still chattering about it when they returned to the mansion.

Qin Wan changed into comfortable clothes, let her hair down, and asked Yi Jia to massage her scalp to loosen it up, which had been tense for most of the day. "The prince hasn't taken a concubine yet, so he must have someone he loves."

Qin Wan remembered that in her previous life, the prince had never married a princess.

One story goes that the crown prince was not favored by the emperor, and the emperor wanted to replace him, so he did not grant the marriage to avoid implicating innocent ministers.

It is said that the prince had a lover and repeatedly declined the emperor's marriage proposals, which angered the emperor and caused him to lose his favor.

There are also claims that the prince was too ambitious and the woman he wanted to marry was infertile, so he protested by refusing to marry.

Some even said that the prince was homosexual and kept many handsome men outside the palace. He was afraid that these men would cause trouble, so he delayed marrying.
