Chapter 2: There are three kinds of unfilial behavior: not having descendants is the worst

Qitongju was the residence of the wife of the marquis. When Qin Wan married into the family, Lu Yan's mother, her mother-in-law, lived in Qitong.

Since she was personally welcomed into the mansion by the Crown Prince, Lu Yan's grandmother, the Old Lady, decided to let Qin Wan live in the main courtyard where the head of the family lived.

A few years ago, Lu Yan's mother passed away. Since Lu Yan, the only son, did not come back to attend the funeral, many things in Qitongju had not been packed up yet. Qin Wan still lived in the main courtyard, and Qitongju was left vacant.

Now they are actually going to let an unidentified person live in Qitongju, which is a blatant resistance to Qin Wan's refusal to accept Bai Wanyi.

In her previous life, Qin Wan had made a huge mistake by letting Bai Wanyi enter the mansion as a concubine. Now that she is alive again, she will definitely not let her enter the mansion.

She stared at Lu Yan and said word by word, "My Lord, I wonder what Miss Bai's status is in entering the mansion? And why is she being placed in Qitong Residence?"

Lu Yan frowned and looked at Qin Wan. Both he and Bai Wanyi had given in, but she was still so aggressive and kept pursuing them!

His cold voice was filled with impatience. "Qitongju is the residence of the Marquis's mistress. Since you're not living there, naturally Wanyi should move in. I intend to marry her as my co-wife. If you don't want to, we can put it on hold for now. But we can't leave them and their son without a place to live."

Qin Wan raised her hand and sneered, "My Lord, don't you understand what I mean? Without a matchmaker or an engagement, you bring a woman home to take her into your family. Naturally, she can only be a concubine. Lest you accuse me of being ungenerous, I'm willing to drink a cup of concubine tea."

Lu Yan looked at the increasingly aggressive Qin Wan, feeling the soft palm of Bai Wanyi beside him, his brain pounding: "Wanyi is naturally the mistress of my mansion."

Qin Wan sneered, her chin raised high, her eyes filled with pride. "The Marquis's Madam? She's the Marquis's Madam. Then what kind of identity do I have? What status do I have? What kind of position do I have? Where do you put me? Where do you put the Crown Prince's reputation? Where do you put the Royal Family's reputation?"

"Lu Yan, Lord Lu, I don't agree to take her as my second wife. Are you going to trample on me, our ancestral laws, and our moral principles?"

Lu Yan only felt the soft little hand in his palm gradually tighten. He knew that in such a situation, Bai Wanyi must feel extremely embarrassed. She was such a glorious person, but now she had to suffer such humiliation in front of civil and military officials.

Lu Yan's heart ached with pain. He looked at Qin Wan again, his expression becoming even colder and sterner. "Am I not considerate enough of your reputation? It is precisely because the Crown Prince came to marry her personally that I sought the Emperor's favor and married Wan Yi as my equal wife. This is what I can do for you."

"And yet you're still unsatisfied, obstructing her in every possible way. I've already been extremely wronged by giving in and letting her into the mansion without even going through the formalities of marriage. What's your intention now?"

Lu Linglong, the fifth lady of Pingyang Marquis's Mansion, watched Qin Wan pressing forward step by step. Bai Wanyi was like a fragile little flower in the wind and rain. Her body trembled slightly as Qin Wan spoke harshly, but she forced herself to stand firm. She really felt like she was being broken by the wind and rain.

Lu Linglong couldn't bear to watch this anymore and took a step forward, saying, "What else could my sister-in-law mean? She's just intolerant. Brother, why don't you just divorce her and marry Sister Bai directly?"

"So Sister Bai will be the legitimate wife and won't have to bow down to my sister-in-law. And my sister-in-law will be free to find another man to marry. But this time, my sister-in-law must be careful and find a man who will never take a concubine."

Sister Bai? Hearing this address, I'm afraid you've known about Bai Wanyi for a long time, right?

Qin Wan glanced at Lu Linglong, her eyes full of meaning: "Fifth sister, as a sister-in-law, it's inappropriate for you to interfere in your brother's bedroom affairs, isn't it?"

Lu Linglong didn't think it was wrong to interfere in her brother's bedroom affairs. She was aware of the fact that she was showing off in front of all the civil and military officials, but she was very proud. She straightened her back, glanced at the emperor and the empress, and then looked straight at Qin Wan and said:

"What's inappropriate about that? I'm just expressing my opinion because I saw something unfair."

"I've been listening for a while, and I want to say something fair on behalf of Sister Bai. Sister Bai has made tremendous contributions to our Great Zhou, ensuring peace in the border areas and a safe life for the people. With such great contributions, if Sister Bai were a man, she would have been granted a title of nobility and become a prime minister."

"But she's a woman, and all she wants is to be with her beloved. Sister Bai only asks for a co-wife position. She's so sensible and considerate, but my sister-in-law can't tolerate her. Doesn't this chill the hearts of the people at the border?"

Lu Linglong's hat was even bigger than Lu Yan's. Although the civil and military officials disdained her as an unmarried girl interfering in her brother's bedroom affairs, they had to agree with her.

"Yes, but she is just a co-wife. With such a great contribution, I will just bear with it."

"I heard that Miss Bai invented firearms. These are powerful weapons. With them, our Great Zhou Dynasty will no longer have to worry about border instability or expansion."

Amid the discussions among the officials, Lu Linglong's chin was raised higher and higher.

However, she didn't notice that the expressions of the ladies on the other side were becoming increasingly ugly.

Qin Wan looked at Lu Linglong disappointedly and shook her head. "Fifth sister, you're standing up for Miss Bai, but have you ever thought about me, the person who raised you for eight years? You actually encouraged your brother to divorce me?"

Lu Linglong's eyes widened as she said matter-of-factly, "The worst of the three unfilial acts is not having an heir. My sister-in-law has been married for eight years and has no children, while Miss Bai and her brother's child is already seven years old. Doesn't that mean she can't divorce you?"

Lu Yan looked at Lu Linglong in shock, unable to believe that these were the words she said.

The emperor and the empress looked at each other. They usually kept their emotions to themselves but now their faces were filled with unconcealable astonishment.

The civil and military officials were originally whispering about what kind of reward Bai Wanyi deserved for his contributions, and the ladies were discussing the issue of concubines. At this moment, they were so shocked by Lu Linglong's words that they forgot to speak for a moment.
