These words were like a bomb, instantly shattering the silence between them. Thord's body trembled, his eyes widening, a look of terror evident on his face. He licked his dry lips and tried to speak, but his throat seemed blocked, and no sound came out. He looked at Gu Jisui, feeling an indescribable feeling welling up in his heart. This man seemed to know everything, as if his every move was being seen through by him.
Gu Jisui watched Thord's reaction quietly, his eyes expressionless. He waited for Thord's answer, as if it were a matter of life and death. The air in the room seemed to grow heavier, the tension like a taut string, poised to explode at any moment.
Time passed minute by minute, and it seemed as if half a century had passed. A fierce struggle was going on in the hearts of both of them.
Gu Jisui's lips curled up into a barely perceptible smile, and he seemed satisfied with Soder's reaction. He leaned back in his chair, his hands folded across his chest, like a leisurely bystander.
"Bai Lan didn't lend you money, right?" Gu Jisui asked again, his voice calmer and deeper than before.
Sode swallowed, his eyes flickering, revealing his inner conflict and struggle. He stood there, as if enveloped by Gu Jisui's powerful aura. He knew he couldn't lie easily in front of this man. He shook his head helplessly, then nodded, indicating that Gu Jisui was right.
Gu Jisui's smile widened, a sly glint in his eyes. He leaned back on the sofa, legs crossed, a smug smile playing on his lips. He gave Thord a deep look and said, "So, if I help you pay off your debts, how about you tell me all your secrets?"
"Well..." Thord hesitated, his eyes revealing confusion and bewilderment. He knew in his heart that this was a big decision and he needed time to think about it.
Gu Jisui noticed Sode's hesitation and nodded with a smile, expressing his understanding. He said, "You can think about it, but I'll give you three days to think about it. I'll come back to you after three days."
Thord frowned, mentally reciting the deadline. He knew he needed to make a decision quickly, but he also knew it would change his life. He took a deep breath and nodded, accepting the terms.
"Then I'll go back and think about it." Soder said, his voice a little low, as if troubled by heavy psychological pressure.
Sode walked out of Gu Jisui's office silently, his heart filled with complicated emotions.
He felt a sense of relief because Gu Jisui did not force him to make an immediate decision, but he also felt a deep anxiety because he knew he had to make an important decision within the next three days.
On the way home, Sood reflected on Gu Jisui's words. He knew he needed to make a wise decision, but his mind was filled with conflict. He thought about his own secrets, the ones that filled him with shame, pain, and helplessness.
He didn't know what the consequences would be if he revealed these secrets.
Sode called Bai Lan again, wanting to get money from her. It was like a bottomless pit of desire, and he was eager to get some money from her.
Bai Lan answered the phone.
"Why are you calling me again? I told you I have no money to give you!" Bai Lan said angrily, her voice filled with fatigue and helplessness.
"I lost a bet and owe millions," Thord said shamelessly, his voice filled with anxiety and pleading. "Please help me, for the sake of our child."
His words were like sharp arrows, piercing directly into Bai Lan's heart.
"You still have the nerve to mention the child?" Bai Lan was furious upon hearing this. "What the child needs right now is stability and care, not an irresponsible father like you. Do you think you can use the child as an excuse to pay off your gambling debts? That's ridiculous!"
"Next time when I make money, I will definitely pay you back." Sode promised again solemnly, but Bai Lan no longer believed him.
"Do you think I will still believe you?" Bai Lan said angrily, "You already owe me too much money. I can't trust you anymore. Please go away and don't contact me again!"
Bai Lan angrily hung up the phone. Her heart was heavy. She knew Sode had fallen into a gambling addiction, unable to extricate himself. And she could no longer afford to shoulder any of his debts.
Bai Lan sat weakly on the bed, her eyes empty, as if she was defeated by Soder's words.
Bai Lan sighed deeply, her heart heavy, as if she was suffocated by an invisible burden. She knew that the entanglement between her and Thord had exhausted her and she could no longer bear any more pressure.
However, at this moment, the phone rang again. It was Soder's number. Bai Lan hesitated for a moment, but finally answered the call.
"How dare you call me?" Bai Lan's tone was full of anger and helplessness.
"I beg you, for the sake of the child, please help me this time." Thord's voice was full of pleading and desperation. "I promise, this is the last time I ask for your help. I will definitely turn over a new leaf and become a new man."
Bai Lan's angry voice came from the phone. Her voice was as sharp as a knife, as if it wanted to cut through Sode's words.
"Do you think I'll still believe you?" Bai Lan said angrily, her voice filled with disappointment and anger, "Get away from me!"
Sode's voice sounded pitiful and desperate. He was almost begging Bai Lan: "Please, help me. The creditors have found me. They said that if I don't pay them back, they will take action. For the sake of the child, please help me."
Bai Lan's heart ached when she heard this. She knew Thord was an irresponsible father, but she couldn't help but feel sad when she heard that his creditors had forced him into a corner. She took a deep breath and tried to calm herself.
"Why didn't you think of our child when you left us? You only care about yourself!" Bai Lan's voice rose several degrees, her heart filled with disappointment and anger. "I'm telling you, you have to pay back the debt you owe now. Don't even think about taking a penny from me!"
When Thord heard this, his voice was filled with pain and helplessness. "I was forced to leave you and the child. But now the creditors have left me with nowhere to escape. I beg you, for the sake of the child, please help me."
