Chapter 54 Apology

As far as he could remember, Mu Ci had never stood up, so he had no sense of his height. He always looked down at his brother who was sitting in a wheelchair.

Unexpectedly, Mu Ci was actually several centimeters taller than him. Even with crutches, Mu Ci was so dazzling that he felt ashamed for a moment.

Mu Ci looked at Mu En with complicated eyes, then at Duan Si, whose expression was so shocked that it was out of control.

"Mom, good morning." There was no emotion in Mu Ci's voice, as flat as air.

Duan Si lost his voice and said, "Your legs—, how did you stand up?"

Mu Ci looked down at his legs and said calmly, "Yes, I was so excited last night that I was able to stand up."

"Excited for a moment? Why are you excited? What happened? By the way, why did you hit your brother?" Duan Si suddenly remembered his youngest son.

She reached out to pull Mu En, "What's wrong with you, kid? Why are you kneeling here? What did you do? You have to kneel down after being beaten? Stand up right there!"

Mu En pushed her hand away with all his strength: "Mom! Don't worry about it! I did something wrong, and I came here to ask my elder brother and younger sister-in-law to forgive me. If they don't forgive me, I won't get up!"

As he spoke, his voice choked.

"What do you want to forgive? What did you do? Why should you forgive or not forgive your brother? He is your brother, he should give in to you! Even if you did something wrong, he must forgive you!" Duan Si couldn't stand seeing her son looking so aggrieved. It was like tearing out her heart.

Unable to pull Mu En up, she turned around and glared at Mu Ci, "How can you be so cruel? He's your brother! You beat him for no reason and kicked him out, leaving him exposed to the rain and a cold. Is your heart made of stone? So cruel! Do you hate him that much? If you want to hate someone, you should hate me! He's innocent! Come at me!"

Duan Si started to shout at the top of her lungs again. She had said these words countless times without even thinking.

This is the most effective way to subdue Mu Ci, and it has been proven effective over the years.

Mu Ci has become numb to this.

His eyes fell on Mu En, who happened to glance at him. Meeting his gaze, he immediately clasped his hands together and said, "Brother, brother, I was wrong, I was wrong. I drank too much last night and I was unconscious—"

"Since you are unconscious, you can't remember anything. Why bother to say it out loud?" Mu Ci interrupted him calmly.

Mu En choked.

Mu Ci looked down at him, "I was so angry last night that I actually stood up and was able to walk a few steps. I don't know whether I should blame you or thank you!"

Mu En could only look at Mu Ci pitifully, unable to react.

Duan Si was completely confused. "What do you mean? Your leg was healed by Mu En? Was it—because you were angry with Mu En that it healed?"

Neither brother looked at her.

Duan Si relaxed. "Oh, that's what I told you. We're brothers, what's the hard part? Hey, get up! Get up! Go ask grandpa to plead for you!"

Mu Chen had already heard what Lao Jiang had said, and his expression changed. "What did you say?"

Lao Jiang lowered his head silently, avoiding Mu Chen's gaze.

Mu Chen turned around and walked angrily to Mu En, raising his hand to hit him. At Mu Ci's signal, Liu Ming quickly held Mu Chen's hand and said, "Old man, don't get yourself hurt by being angry."

"Grandpa, Grandpa, I was wrong, I was wrong. I drank too much yesterday and I really don't know what I did or said. I, I felt like I was in a dream. Grandpa, I was wrong. I won't dare to do it again." Mu En knelt down, hugged Mu Chen's legs, and cried sincerely.

"You, you--" Mu Chen felt sad and depressed.

"How can you be worthy of your elder brother? Ah? He is your elder brother!" Mu Chen pushed Mu En angrily.

Duan Si didn't understand what had happened, but guessed that the eldest son must have had something on his youngest son. She didn't care what he thought, but the old man couldn't be dissatisfied with Mu En.

So, she climbed up the pole and said, "Dad, why don't you slap him twice to vent your anger? He really knows he's wrong. He had a high fever all night and got up early this morning to admit his mistake. Don't bother with him and forgive him."

Mu Chen angrily said, "That depends on whether his elder brother forgives him! Mu Ci always thinks of him, what is he doing? Ah? Brothers are friendly and respectful to each other, your brother did it, how did you do it?"

"Grandpa, Grandpa, I was wrong, I was really wrong. I just drank too much and my heart was blinded by greed. I will never dare to do it again next time. Brother, please forgive me. Where is my sister-in-law? I apologize to my sister-in-law. I'm sorry, I'm sorry. It's all my fault!" Mu En said in a very sincere tone.

Duan Si's eyes suddenly widened. "What does that country girl have to do with it? Why are you apologizing to her? She's not a girl who's just there to get married—"

"Shut up!" Mu Chen pointed at his daughter-in-law angrily and shouted.

Duan Si was startled and shut up angrily.

Mu Chen frowned, took a deep breath, and asked Mu Ci, "Where's Zhou Shuo?"

Mu Ci said calmly, "She's too tired and is still sleeping."

Mu Chen and the others knew that she hadn't slept the previous night because she was taking care of Mu Ci, but Duan Si and Mu En couldn't help but think the wrong way when they heard this.

Duan Si sneered, "How dare you say such shameless words? We're all here, and she's a bride who's here to celebrate, yet she's sleeping? Humph! How uneducated!"

Mu Ci looked at Duan Si with a gaze as if it had been tempered by ice.

Duan Si's heart couldn't help but shudder.

Mu Chen said solemnly, "Did you know that Mu Ci almost died the day before yesterday because of your bowl of Buddha Jumps Over the Wall? It was Zhou Shuo who stayed up all night to take care of him. A daughter-in-law who comes to bring good luck is much more reliable than a mother like you!"

Duan Si's eyes widened. "Dad! Where did you get that from? What do you mean he almost died because of my Buddha Jumps Over the Wall? I, I made food for my son with good intentions, how can that be considered harming him?"

Mu Chen and Mu Ci looked at each other. Sure enough, Duan Si didn't know anything, just as they had guessed.

Mu En took two steps on his knees and came to Duan Si's side, also looking surprised: "What, what happened? Is my illness coming back again? Why didn't you go to the hospital? Is it serious?"

Duan Si said, "Dad! Stop scaring me. Didn't I hear Mu Ci went to the hospital the night before last? Mu En had a fever last night and called Dr. Li, but he didn't tell him that Mu Ci was sick?"

Mu Chen's eyes widened in anger.
