Overt Conspiracy at the Board Meeting
Monday, top floor of the Feng Group, boardroom.
The atmosphere was solemn, even somewhat oppressive.
Around the enormous oval conference table sat a dozen or so figures who held the reins of this business empire.
They were all dressed in suits and ties, with serious expressions, and the air was filled with the mixed smells of cigars, coffee, and money.
As the president's special assistant, Yu Jinli was fortunate to attend the event. She was the only one present who looked humble and out of place, like Xiao Karami.
She held a laptop and sat in an inconspicuous corner behind Feng Jinxuan, trying to minimize her presence.
She felt like a newbie who had accidentally stumbled into a battle of gods, with every big shot around her having an aura so strong it could knock her away.
Feng Jinxuan sat at the head of the conference table, his expression indifferent, revealing neither joy nor anger.
Opposite him stood Feng Jinhong, who was smiling gently.
The first half of the meeting consisted of routine quarterly financial reports and project summaries.
Yu Jinli was so sleepy from listening that she could barely stay awake by mentally complaining about the receding hairlines of the board members.
Finally, the regular agenda came to an end.
Feng Jinxuan tapped the table lightly with his long fingers, instantly attracting everyone's attention.
"Dear uncles and elders, I would like to add a proposal to today's meeting."
His voice wasn't loud, but it carried clearly to every corner of the conference room.
A veteran director with gray hair, who was also a supporter of Feng Jinhong, frowned.
"Jin Xuan, the board meeting agenda is always finalized a week in advance. Adding proposals at the last minute is against the rules, isn't it?"
“Chairman Liu is right, it is indeed against the rules.” Feng Jinxuan nodded in agreement. “However, what if this proposal concerns the vital interests of everyone present, and the very survival of the group?”
He surveyed the entire room, his gaze cold and sharp.
"I think rules can also serve people."
A subdued murmur arose in the conference room.
Feng Jinxuan stopped wasting words and directly instructed his assistant, Wang, to distribute a document to each of the directors present.
The document contains the official investigation report on the dramatic riot that occurred on the cruise ship a few days ago.
Of course, the report omitted all the parts about metaphysics, only characterizing it as "a malicious attack on the president's personal safety deliberately orchestrated by insiders in collusion with external forces."
After the report was read, the entire room erupted in uproar.
"Outrageous! How dare someone lay a hand on the CEO on our turf!"
"That woman, Sun Man, usually seems quite shrewd, but I never expected her to be so vicious!"
"This must be thoroughly investigated! There must be someone else behind this!"
After Feng Jinxuan and the others had vented their emotions, they spoke again, their voices carrying just the right amount of weariness and coldness.
"Uncles and elders, as you can see, my personal safety has been seriously threatened."
"This is not just a personal issue for me, but also a problem for the group. If something happens to me, everyone here knows better than I how the group's stock price will fluctuate."
He paused for a moment, then raised his core issue.
"Therefore, I propose that we immediately initiate the highest-level internal security review process within the group. We must thoroughly investigate all potential security risks within the company, including but not limited to personnel backgrounds, project security, information security, and so on. I hope that through this review, we can wipe out all the scourges lurking in the shadows."
His words were resounding and righteous, and no one could refute them.
Just when Yu Jinli thought he was about to win a great victory, Feng Jinhong, who had been silent all along, suddenly spoke up.
With a pained expression on his face, he was the first to stand up and show his support.
"I completely agree with Jinxuan's proposal!" His voice was heavy with sorrow, filled with love and self-reproach for his younger brother. "Jinxuan has suffered such a great injustice, and as his older brother, I cannot shirk my responsibility! This matter must be thoroughly investigated to give Jinxuan an explanation, and also to give all the shareholders an explanation!"
His words were righteous and indignant, instantly placing him on the moral high ground.
Then, he changed the subject.
“However,” he looked around the room, his tone becoming heavy, “this investigation involves a wide range of people and has deep implications, and it will inevitably offend many. Jin Xuan, you have only recently taken over the group and your foundation is not yet stable. If you lead this investigation, I'm afraid you will make too many enemies and affect your future work.”
He sighed, a resolute expression on his face conveying his determination to "share his brother's burdens."
"Therefore, I propose that I serve as the leader of this 'Internal Security Review Task Force'."
"Let me, as your older brother, handle all the troublesome matters and all the difficult tasks! I will never let you suffer any more harm!"
What a brilliant move – retreating to advance, turning the tables and taking the initiative!
Yu Jinli couldn't help but applaud his acting skills in her heart.
His actions not only easily neutralized Feng Jinxuan's thunderous counterattack, but also allowed him to firmly grasp the initiative in the investigation.
If he really becomes the team leader, then this so-called "thorough investigation" will ultimately only turn into a farce he orchestrated to eliminate dissidents.
Sure enough, as soon as he finished speaking, several directors began to nod in agreement.
“Vice President Feng is right. Jin Xuan is still too young. This kind of thing really needs a more mature person to take charge.”
"Yes, when brothers are of one mind, their strength can break metal. We are all at ease with Vice President Feng taking the lead."
Seeing that the situation was about to be reversed, Yu Jinli's heart was in her throat.
Feng Jinxuan's face remained expressionless.
He seemed to have anticipated Feng Jinhong's move.
He waited until everyone had finished speaking before slowly and deliberately offering his second suggestion.
“I appreciate my cousin’s concern for me.” He first affirmed the other party, then changed the subject, “But because this matter is of great importance, in order to avoid suspicion and to ensure that the investigation results are absolutely fair, I think that neither of us brothers is suitable to serve as the group leader.”
He paused, his gaze sweeping across the room, his voice clear and firm.
“I propose that the Group’s Supervisory Board take the lead and hire an independent and authoritative third-party organization to supervise the entire process of our review.”
"I personally recommend that the most famous 'iron-faced judge' in Yuncheng—the chief lawyer of Zhang Deshuai Law Firm, and her team—serve as our independent legal counsel for this review."
The moment the name "Zhang Deshuai" was uttered, the conference room fell silent.
This lawyer, Zhang, is a legendary figure in the Yuncheng legal community. He's notoriously unyielding, ruthless, and only respects the law and evidence.
Over the years, she has personally sent at least eight or ten wealthy and powerful people to prison.
Asking her to supervise? Then this investigation would truly become a "scraping the bone to remove the poison" process.
The gentle smile on Feng Jinhong's face finally cracked with a barely perceptible slight.
