First argument
Feng Jinxuan's question, which was full of the implication of settling scores, was like a drop of water thrown into a hot oil pan, instantly reigniting the atmosphere in the living room that had just eased up a little.
Looking at the man's matter-of-fact, uncompromising expression, which even carried a hint of grievance, Yu Jinli felt as if her heart had been stabbed.
This guy!
Is it justified to eavesdrop on other people's conversations?
"I...I said that on purpose to reject him!" she retorted, trying to argue. "Yes, it was mutual flattery, you understand? I was trying to raise your value so he would back down!"
"Oh?" Feng Jinxuan's eyebrows rose even higher. "To raise my status, do I need to say that I have a sharp tongue, a bad temper, and am childish and awkward?"
"Yu Jinli, your company's corporate culture is truly... unique."
Yu Jinli: "..."
Damn it! I've fallen into his trap again!
Looking at the man's handsome face that was closing in on her, and his dark eyes that seemed to say, "You're dead if you don't give me a reasonable explanation today," the panic she felt from being confessed to was gradually replaced by a stronger sense of embarrassment and anger.
"Yes! That's exactly what I think! So what!" she yelled, defiantly. "You've always had a sharp tongue! A bad temper! Childish and awkward! Am I wrong?"
Feng Jinxuan's face darkened completely.
He didn't expect that this woman would still dare to be so stubborn.
"I have a sharp tongue?" He stepped forward, cornering her on the sofa and completely enveloping her with his tall figure. "If I didn't have a sharp tongue, would you have secured that 100 million investment?"
"I have a bad temper?" He took another step forward, so close that they could almost feel each other's breath. "If I didn't have a bad temper, would you be living in such a big house, eating and drinking well every day, and having people wait on you?"
"Am I childish and awkward?" He leaned down, placing his hands on either side of her on the sofa, completely trapping her within his small space.
He lowered his head, his nose almost touching hers. His usually cold and indifferent black eyes were now filled with childish anger, like two burning will-o'-the-wisps, filled with the accusation, "How dare you say someone else is better than me."
"Yu Jinli, tell me, in what way am I inferior to that Gu fellow?"
Yu Jinli felt suffocated by the aggressive, masculine aura emanating from him.
Her heart was pounding uncontrollably.
My cheeks were so hot they could fry an egg on them.
But we won't lose face!
She tilted her head back, meeting his burning eyes without fear.
"You're inferior to him in every way!" she blurted out, throwing out all the most hurtful words. "He's gentler than you! More considerate than you! More knowledgeable than you! Most importantly..."
She paused, and her voice unconsciously carried a hint of grievance that she herself was unaware of.
"At least he'll say the word 'I like you'!"
"And what about you?" She looked at him, her eyes inexplicably reddening. "All you do is try to seduce me with money! Bind me with agreements! Treat me with your self-righteous and domineering methods! You have no idea what I really want!"
"Feng Jinxuan, you're just a... coward!"
After she finished shouting her last sentence, the entire living room fell into a deathly silence.
Both of them were stunned.
Yu Jinli was stunned because she never expected that she would actually say those words.
Feng Jinxuan was stunned because he felt as if his heart, which was wrapped in layers of ice, had been pierced by the girl's last words.
coward?
This was the first time in all of Feng Jinxuan's life that he had heard someone use this word to describe him.
Ironically, he was unable to refute it.
yes.
He didn't dare tell her that he was Chase.
He dared not tell her about his painful past.
He dared not, like Gu Yanzhi, openly express his feelings.
Because he was afraid.
He feared that the misfortune befalling him would once again extinguish the only light in his life.
He looked into the girl's eyes, which were misty with anger and grievance, and at her stubbornly pursed lips, which he had kissed.
An unprecedented and unfamiliar emotion called "panic" instantly overwhelmed him.
He suddenly became very afraid.
I'm afraid she'll actually think that Gu Yanzhi is better than her.
I'm terrified that she'll really leave me.
"Who says I can't speak?"
A man's hoarse voice, trembling almost imperceptibly, suddenly rang out in the quiet living room.
Yu Jinli was stunned and hadn't reacted yet.
The man lowered his head again.
This time, he didn't kiss her.
He simply rubbed the tip of her nose lightly against the bridge of his high nose.
The movements were clumsy and awkward, yet they carried a kind of... desperate tenderness.
“Yu Jinli,” he whispered in her ear, his voice deep and resonant, like the strings of a cello, gently plucking at her heartstrings, “listen carefully.”
"I like you."
...
After that night, the two fell into an extremely strange "cold war" state.
Feng Jinxuan no longer teased or provoked her as he had before.
He simply became more silent.
He would follow her silently, like the most dutiful bodyguard.
He would hand her water if she was thirsty.
When she is hungry, he will call the chef.
She was tired, so he... asked Assistant Wang to give her a day off.
But he just wouldn't talk to her.
Yu Jinli felt like she was being driven crazy by this "cold violence".
She would rather he argued and fought with her like before, than have this cold and distant relationship.
She tried several times to talk to him.
But when he met his eyes, which were filled with complex emotions and unfathomable depths, all the words stuck in his throat.
The third day of the Cold War.
Yu Jinli finally couldn't take it anymore.
She locked herself in her room, called Lin Feifei, and tearfully accused Feng Jinxuan of all his "crimes".
"...Do you think he wants to break up with me?" she asked, sobbing.
After listening to the phone call, Lin Feifei remained silent for a long time.
In the end, he only said one sentence, which was earth-shattering.
“I’m telling you, Lili,” her tone was full of exasperation, “your domineering CEO, he doesn’t want to break up with you. He’s clearly… waiting for you to coax him!”
Yu Jinli: "?"
"My God! Are you stupid?" Lin Feifei was almost laughing in exasperation. "He already said 'I like you' and what did you do? Did you just stupidly run away?"
Yu Jinli carefully recalled the events.
It seems... that's really true.
She was stunned by the sudden confession, and her mind went blank.
Then, she... fled in panic.
“It’s over.” Lin Feifei’s tone was like giving a death sentence to a terminally ill patient. “In the ‘Domineering CEO’ genre, this behavior is called ‘rejection.’ He must feel right now that you’ve completely dumped him.”
"He's hiding in a corner right now, licking his wounds."
Yu Jinli: "..."
She felt that her worldview had been refreshed once again.
So... that's how it is?
After hanging up the phone, Yu Jinli looked at her bewildered reflection in the mirror.
She suddenly realized that she might... actually be a bit of a jerk.
She took a deep breath, as if she had made up her mind.
She walked out of the room and to the door of the study.
Then, with an expression of resignation, she pushed open the door.
In the study, the man was sitting behind his desk, processing documents.
He heard a noise, looked up, and saw it was her; his eyes instinctively darted away.
Yu Jinli, however, paid no heed.
She walked straight up to him, and then, to the man's astonishment, snatched the documents from his hand.
She threw the documents on the table, then braced herself on the table with both hands, leaned down, and like a female hooligan, trapped him between herself and the chair.
“Feng Jinxuan.” She looked at him and declared clearly, word by word.
Listen carefully.
"That day, you asked me what you lacked compared to Gu Yanzhi."
"I'll answer you now."
“You are better than him in every way.”
"because……"
She paused, looking at the man's dark eyes, which were slightly widened in shock, and his ears, which were slightly red.
She smiled.
He laughed like a fox who had just gotten away with stealing fish.
"Because the person I love is you."
“My… cowardly husband.”
