The rain pattered incessantly through the woods. Outside the woodshed, the guards stood like wooden stakes under the eaves, while the masked assassin was tied to a tree trunk.
Li Bing looked anxious, glanced at the woodshed, and then continued to stare into the dark woods.
Why hasn't the lord arrived yet? Is he lost? Didn't we send out a signal? Didn't you see it?
Inside the woodshed, Nanqianyue, nestled in Qin Yi's arms, was drowsy.
She was slightly awakened by the noise of Qin Yi dressing her.
Qin Yi patted her head. "It's okay, go to sleep."
Nanqianyue, barely able to keep her eyes open, said, "Wake me up when the rain stops..." She needed to go back and check if her mother and sister were safe.
"good."
Time passed again, and then strange noises came from the woods once more.
Veda gripped his hidden weapon, ready to strike at any moment.
Li Bing, however, opened his eyes wide and silently pleaded, "My lord, my lord, it must be my lord!"
"Li Bing! Where's Nan Nan!" A dark figure rushed out of the woods, and before the person even got close, a suppressed angry question was uttered.
Li Bing hurriedly stepped forward, "My lord, Miss Nan is all well and is in the woodshed... Prince Anzheng is also there."
He spoke the next sentence cautiously, not daring to look at his lord's expression.
It's hard to judge when a man and a woman are alone in a room together.
Xiao Chen's hands clenched tightly in his wet sleeves. Rainwater slid down his forehead, some clinging to his eyebrows, others to his long eyelashes. His eyelids fluttered slightly, and raindrops rolled down his long eyelashes like tears. His dark pupils were deathly silent.
He stood in the rain for a long time, motionless, wanting to go in but not daring to, afraid of seeing a scene that would suffocate him.
"Move!"
Another urgent sound came, and the person flew down from the treetops, stepping on the rainwater on the branches and leaves, which just happened to drench the masked man who was tied to the tree trunk, and the masked man who had been unconscious immediately woke up.
"Where are the relocated people?" Xie Yanzhou asked, his sharp eyes randomly grabbing at someone.
But nobody paid him any attention.
Half of the people here are Qin Yi's men, and the other half are Xiao Chen's men. Why would they bother with their master's rival in love?
Xie Yanzhou was incredibly clever; he could tell from the positions of the guards that Nan Qianyue was inside the wooden house.
He suppressed his panic, took a few steps to the door, and raised his hand to push it open, but was stopped by Wei Da.
"Please do not disturb Miss Nan's rest, Xie Shisun."
Xie Yanzhou's cold gaze shot at him, "If it's a rest, why is there a man's scent? Qin Yi is inside, isn't he? What did he do to Qianqian!"
As he spoke, he threw a punch at Weida.
Wei Da instinctively dodged, and Xie Yanzhou seized the opportunity to push the door open, revealing the scene inside.
Behind the flickering firelight, shadowy figures loomed.
Qin Yi sat on a bundle of firewood, stroking the head of the person in his arms as if to comfort them.
Nan Qianyue huddled in his arms, draped in the man's large black robe, revealing only half of her head and feet.
She had her eyes closed, as if she were asleep.
Xie Yanzhou felt his breath was being choked, and he was having difficulty breathing.
He stood frozen at the doorway, unable to move.
"Get out of the way." Xiao Chen's icy voice rang out behind Xie Yanzhou.
Xie Yanzhou pursed his lips tightly, his gaze darting around, unsure where to look, as if everything was burning his eyes.
Qin Yi looked up at the person at the door, his voice sharp but deliberately low, "Come in if you want, or close the door."
Fortunately, the sound of the rain was loud enough to drown out their noise and prevent them from waking her.
...At midnight, the southward-migrating moon was awakened by hunger.
She has a habit of humming a couple of times when she wakes up, especially when she hasn't slept well.
"Hmm..."
A soft, sweet humming sound rang out, and the air in the room instantly froze, causing everyone's breathing to become disordered and unnatural.
Qin Yi raised his hand and patted her back to comfort her; his palm was very hot.
"Why hasn't the rain stopped yet..." Nan Qianyue slowly opened her eyes, feeling a little sore, and she couldn't help but raise her hand to rub them.
They were completely unaware that there were two more people in the room.
"It shouldn't stop tonight." Qin Yi lowered his head slightly, his gaze on her face warm and gentle, his voice soft and penetrating.
The people sitting on the other two sides of the fire slowly clenched their fingers, and the veins on the back of their hands bulged.
"Nan Nan, now that you're awake, don't stay in his arms."
A sour, icy sound suddenly rang out, startling Nanqianyue.
As her body trembled, Qin Yi tightened his grip on her arms.
Nanqianyue suddenly turned her head and saw Xiao Chen and Xie Yanzhou sitting by the fire with icy expressions on their faces.
Southward Migration Month: "..."
What are they doing here?
Why do I feel so embarrassed?
When did they arrive?
Nan Qianyue looked up at Qin Yi questioningly, as if blaming him for not waking her up when someone came.
Xiao Chen saw her reaction and had hoped that Qin Yi had knocked her unconscious and forcibly held her in his arms, but her reaction after waking up shattered his expectations.
She was not forced; it was voluntary.
This is a heartbreaking conclusion.
"Gurgle..." Nan Qianyue's stomach rumbled, and she touched her flat stomach, frowning.
"The roasted sweet potatoes are almost ready, just bear with it a little longer," Qin Yi said softly, pinching her cheek as he spoke.
Such ambiguous actions are tantamount to adding fuel to the fire.
"Nan Nan! You are an unmarried young lady, you shouldn't be so close to men!" Xiao Chen tried his best to control his murderous impulse.
"The roasted sweet potatoes are ready." Xie Yanzhou placed the scalding hot sweet potatoes at Qin Yi's feet with a cold face, then silently added firewood to the fire.
Nan Qianyue pursed her lips, patted Qin Yi's arm, and whispered, "Put me down."
