Nanqianyue shook his head, "They're friends."
Upon hearing this, the Emperor of Nanjing seemed relieved. "You may stay here for the time being."
"Father! Your son requests an audience!" Xiao Chen bowed and clasped his hands, his loud voice echoing in the outer hall.
The Emperor of Nan Jing frowned, displeasure evident in his expression. "Come in."
Xiao Chen rushed in almost as soon as the emperor finished speaking.
When he saw Nan Qianyue's pale face, he almost forgot his manners, "Nan... Your subject greets Your Majesty."
The emperor glanced at him casually. "You've seen the person. Go back now."
Xiao Chen's heart skipped a beat, and he slowly straightened up. "Then I will not trouble Father Emperor any longer. I will take her away now."
As he spoke, he stepped forward.
"I am telling you to leave!" the emperor said sternly.
Xiao Chen's brows furrowed with resentment. "Your Majesty, I do not know what you mean by this. She is my savior, and I regard her as an honored guest of the Crown Prince's residence. I have disturbed you today, Your Majesty, and I beg you not to make things difficult for her."
Seeing the tense atmosphere, Nanqianyue spoke in a low voice, "His Majesty did not make things difficult for me; it was His Majesty who saved me."
Upon hearing this, Xiao Chen bowed to the emperor and said, "Thank you for saving me, Father. I will take her away now and will not cause you any more trouble."
The emperor abruptly stood up, his imposing presence spreading out, "I order you to leave immediately!"
Xiao Chen knelt on the ground, his face hidden, but his voice was firm and unyielding, "I beg Father Emperor to allow me to take her away!"
The emperor was so angry with him that he was about to order his men to drag him away when Nanqian Yue spoke up in time.
"I'll go with him!"
Nanqianyue climbed out of bed and stumbled to Xiao Chen's side.
Xiao Chen quickly helped her up, "Nan Nan!"
Looking at the emperor, Nanqianyue said, "I only trust him. The palace is too scary. I won't stay here. I want to go with him."
The emperor looked anxious. "You're still young. You can't understand him at all. He's not as simple as you think. Listen to me, once you've recovered, I'll send someone to take you back."
“You’re the emperor, and you’re not simple either,” Nan Qianyue said softly.
The emperor choked, thinking, "This child is so stubborn."
Xiao Chen's eyes were filled with too many emotions; the emperor's words were like invisible arrows piercing his heart.
He always knew that his father disliked him, but he still felt resentful every time he heard his father make sarcastic remarks about him.
"Father, I have never disobeyed you, but today, I must take her away. I beg you, Father, have mercy." Xiao Chen lowered himself and pleaded.
Nanqianyue chimed in, "Anyway, I will never stay in the palace."
The emperor pressed his temples and conceded, "Fine, I'll let you recuperate at the Crown Prince's residence for now. I'll send a few capable people to serve you. If you need any help from me, just have them come and inform me."
Nan Qianyue immediately smiled and said, "Yes, thank you, Your Majesty."
Xiao Chen helped Nan Qianyue to her feet. "Your subject takes his leave."
"Wait." The emperor ignored Xiao Chen and walked up to Nan Qianyue, admonishing her like an elder, "Don't trust anyone easily, take care of yourself, and don't let your mother worry."
Nanqianyue nodded obediently, "Oh, oh."
Once outside the palace, Xiao Chen scooped Nan Qianyue up in his arms and quickened his pace to leave.
“I can walk,” Nan Qianyue whispered.
The palace servants around were all secretly watching.
Xiao Chen ignored him, saying, "Nan Nan, there won't be a next time."
At the Crown Prince's residence, Nanqian Yue, who was leisurely recuperating from her injuries, heard that Xiao Chen had punished Zhong Xing.
Taking advantage of Xiao Chen's absence, she grabbed the steward of the Crown Prince's residence and asked, "Why did Xiao Chen punish Zhong Xing?"
The steward sighed, "Because he failed to protect you. When His Highness was away, he was ordered to protect you in secret, but he actually allowed the Empress to beat you."
Nan Qianyue nodded in understanding, "But that's the Empress, it's normal that Zhong Xing wouldn't dare to stop her."
The steward shook his head, "Miss, you don't know, His Highness and the Empress..."
"What are you talking about?" Xiao Chen walked over with a smile, but his gaze was full of warning when he met the manager's.
The steward was terrified and quickly bowed and retreated, saying, "This old servant greets Your Highness, this old servant takes his leave."
Without giving it much thought, Nan Qianyue grabbed Xiao Chen and asked, "What exactly happened between you and your mother?"
I noticed before that he had a very tense relationship with his mother when we were in Dongling.
Xiao Chen's eyes turned gloomy.
He didn't hide it from Nan Qianyue and told her everything about his past.
After hearing this, Nan Qianyue patted his shoulder sympathetically, "So you're not her biological son."
Moreover, it's easy to see that the Emperor of Nanjing also disliked him.
He was a child whom neither his father nor his mother loved.
Xiao Chen's eyes reddened slightly. "Nan Nan, can you hug me?"
Nan Qianyue was slightly taken aback, then smiled and opened her arms, "Sure, I'll share my happiness with you."
Xiao Chen's eyes lit up, and he embraced her with longing. In that instant, his lonely heart was finally comforted.
The several nannies sent by the emperor to serve the women who were moving south exchanged glances, and none of them dared to step forward to stop them.
They wondered to themselves, is this girl truly naive or just pretending? Can't she see the Crown Prince's feelings for her?
Xiao Chen hesitated to reveal his true feelings, not because he didn't want to, but because he didn't dare.
But on this day, he finally mustered up the courage to confess his feelings.
On a sunny day, at the edge of the royal ranch, the grass swayed in the breeze, and the soft sunlight cast dappled patterns on the green grass.
Xiao Chen, holding a bouquet of flowers, knelt on one knee facing Nan Qianyue.
"Nan Nan, you once said that a relationship must begin with a formal confession with flowers in hand. Today, I dare to ask you, are you willing to start a relationship with me with marriage as the goal?"
Nanqianyue was stunned the moment he knelt down.
