Chapter 191 Where's the protection money? Give it to me!

I couldn't help but chuckle as I watched Yang Guifei move south. She had quite a personality, and the children she raised were so adorable.

"But I need to make soup for my father, so I'm afraid I won't be able to stay with you," Nan Qianyue politely declined.

The fifth princess clung to her arm and pleaded, "Oh, Auntie, please come with us! Please, please, please come!"

Under the persistent pleading of the Fifth Princess, Nanqianyue finally gave in.

The experienced craftsman finally breathed a sigh of relief.

"You're dressed like this to sell things?" Nan Qianyue asked, pointing at the Fourth Prince's brocade robe.

The Fifth Princess suddenly realized, "Of course not, Aunt, please prepare a decent set of clothes for my brother."

Nanqianyue raised an eyebrow, "Aren't you going to switch?"

The Fifth Princess hugged her arm and said cheerfully, "We'll just stay nearby and watch, we won't get involved."

The fourth prince was listless. "Please, my royal aunt, quickly have someone find me some clothes, otherwise I won't be able to finish writing my 10,000-word reflection today."

.

On the bustling street, a boy with a face smeared with soot and dressed in burlap sacks awkwardly called out as he carried a bunch of candied hawthorns on a straw target.

"Selling...selling candied hawthorns, sweet and sour candied hawthorns."

In the teahouse, Nanqianyue and the Fifth Princess leaned against the window, speechless.

The fifth princess complained, "That voice is so weak and listless, and he doesn't even smile. Who would buy it?"

Nanqianyue propped her head up and sighed softly, "It's all about the experience."

On the street, the fourth prince, who was at a loss, suddenly saw his companion.

He felt like he had found a lifeline and ran to the old man with his candied hawthorns.

He winked at the old man, "Let's sell them together."

The old man felt his business was being blatantly threatened.

He covered his face with a straw target and cursed at the Fourth Prince, "Get out of here and sell your goods! I've been selling here for over ten years. Are you trying to steal my business?"

The fourth prince quickly waved his hand, "No, no, I just wanted to ask you for some advice. This is my first time selling."

A glint of shrewdness flashed in the old man's eyes, and before the fourth prince could react, he roared at the top of his lungs:

“There’s a liar here! He just said that his candied hawthorns are made from rotten fruit picked up from the ground! He even bragged to me that he earns more than us honest people who have been making candied hawthorns for more than ten years by selling them at low cost!”

"Please don't be fooled!"

The fourth prince panicked and was at a loss for words. "I didn't...I didn't! These were all done by Hao Guozi!"

"He's still lying! Don't believe him!" The old man's voice was so loud that the fourth prince was no match for him.

The surrounding people pointed and whispered at the fourth prince, and some even spat at him.

Several mischievous children picked up stones and threw them at the Fourth Prince, shouting, "Drive away this child-baiter!"

The fourth prince had no chance to explain; he held up a straw target to his head and ran away in a sorry state.

The group of children chased him for a long distance before stopping.

Upstairs, the Southern Migration Moon and the Fifth Princess looked at each other in bewilderment.

The fourth prince, after hiding and dodging all the way, returned to the teahouse.

He put down the straw target, utterly exhausted. "Alas, I was exaggerating. It's really not easy for ordinary people to make a living."

Nanqianyue raised an eyebrow and chuckled, "You don't blame that old man?"

The fourth prince sat dejectedly between them, shaking his head and saying, "It's not his fault. He was just trying to make a living."

Nan Qianyue looked at him with appreciation, "He's a good child, and your mother is very good at teaching him."

The Fifth Princess suddenly sat up straight, placing her hands folded on the table, looking like a good student. "And what about me?"

She awaited the praise during the month of her southward migration.

Nanqianyue smiled and nodded, "She's a good child too."

The Fifth Princess grinned, revealing eight teeth, and exclaimed, "I think so too!"

The fourth prince sighed repeatedly, and was about to continue his lament when he suddenly frowned, "What's wrong down there?"

Nanqianyue and the Fifth Princess also heard the commotion and looked downstairs together.

The old man who had just driven away the fourth prince was now surrounded by several thugs.

The leader of the thugs, with one foot on a stone block, chin held high and nostrils flared towards the old man, shouted, "Where's the protection money? Hand it over!"

He spread his hands.

The old man bowed and scraped, a forced smile on his face, and hurriedly pulled out a string of copper coins from his pocket, presenting them to the thug with both hands.

The thug weighed it in his hand, his face showing dissatisfaction. "Still halfway there!"

The old man looked pained and clasped his hands together in a pleading manner, "Isn't it always been this much? Please count it again, it's correct."

The thug spat in the old man's face and roared, "Whatever I say goes! Hand over the money now, or I'll smash your stall and kick you out of the capital!"

The old man immediately knelt down, pleading, "I really have no money left, sir. I have five family members waiting to be fed. Please have mercy and spare our lives!"

Some of the local people who were bold enough to shout a few words in support.

But he was immediately grabbed and beaten by the thugs.

For a moment, no one dared to step forward to help.

The fourth prince upstairs was furious. "How could such scoundrels be born right under the emperor's nose!"

He leaped off the building and flew straight down.

Nan Qianyue was stunned. "So the Fourth Prince's lightness skill is like this—uh."

The fourth prince, who was expected to make a heroic entrance, fell awkwardly at the thug's feet with a "thud".

The thug looked down at the dusty, grime-covered boy on the ground and spat on him. "Where did this beast come from? Here to help this old man pay off his debts?"

The fourth prince was disgusted by his saliva, but he was even more furious.

He stood up abruptly, glaring angrily at the thugs, "How dare you! Under the Emperor's nose, how dare you be so arrogant! Aren't you afraid of going to jail?"

The thugs' laughter grew louder and louder. Suddenly, the leader of the thugs, his face contorted with malice, kicked the Fourth Prince in the chest.
