After Qin Yi left, Nan Qianyue twisted her sore arms, put down her fan, and stood up to stretch her arms and legs.
"What is Your Highness doing? Please sit back down quickly."
The composed old nanny from the royal palace approached Nan Qianyue with a serious expression and helped her sit back on the bed.
Nan Qianyue looked up at her and smiled as she asked, "You must be Granny Chang, Qin Yi's wet nurse when he was little?"
Granny Chang nodded, her voice neither too loud nor too soft, "Your Highness, it is indeed this old servant."
Nan Qianyue's smile deepened, and she was about to continue speaking when Granny Chang interrupted her.
"Please be mindful of how you address the Prince, Your Highness. You should not call him by his given name directly." Granny Chang lowered her eyes slightly, her expression respectful.
Nan Qianyue's smile froze for a moment, but she quickly smiled again. "I'm used to calling you that, so it feels a little awkward to change it."
Granny Chang said calmly, "You won't get used to it at first, but you'll get used to it after a while."
A pretty maid who had accompanied the princess on her dowry to the south frowned. "Is the nanny instructing the princess on how to do things? The prince has no objections, so why is the nanny picking on her?"
Nanqianyue turned her head and whispered, "Zisu, you mustn't be rude to the old lady."
Zisu lowered her head and took a step back. "Yes."
Nanqian Yuechao, the old nanny, smiled and said nothing more, sitting obediently by the bed to wait.
However, after a while, she really couldn't sit still anymore.
Her buttocks hurt, her back ached, her neck ached, and the head ornaments were so heavy that they felt like they were about to break her neck.
Zisu and Lüyi noticed Nanqianyue's unusual behavior and quickly went to support her.
"Your Highness, let me remove your crown for you. You can put it back on after you've rested."
The southward migration was exactly what they had hoped for, so they agreed.
"No!" Granny Chang pulled the two maids apart, her brows furrowed with a hint of displeasure. "You are maids trained by the Prime Minister's wife, how can you be so ill-mannered?"
"The princess has not yet tied her hair together with the prince and drunk the nuptial wine; how can we casually disrupt this ritual?"
Nan Qianyue's brows furrowed, and a hint of displeasure flickered in the corners of her eyes. "Does the old woman mean that my mother can't even teach a maid properly?"
Granny Chang immediately bowed, her voice neither humble nor arrogant, "This old servant did not mean that, Your Highness has misunderstood."
Nanqianyue didn't want to argue with her, and out of respect for her being Qin Yi's wet nurse, she would give her plenty of respect.
But respect should not come at the expense of one's own well-being.
"You two, come here and help me take that thing off my head," Nan Qianyue beckoned.
Zisu and Lüyi stepped forward happily, while Granny Chang stood aside with an unpleasant expression.
With her head feeling lighter, Nan Qianyue could breathe more easily. She pursed her slightly dry lips and ordered, "Bring me a cup of tea."
"Yes." The thoughtful Zisu not only brought hot tea, but also some pastries and fruits.
Nanqianyue gave her an appreciative look, picked up her teacup, and drank half of it in one gulp.
Just as her fingertips were about to touch the pastry, Granny Chang finally couldn't hold back any longer.
"Your Highness!" Granny Chang snatched the tray from Zisu's hands, her eyes stern. "How can you eat? This is disrespectful to the Prince."
Nanqianyue controlled her temper and tried to speak calmly, saying, "It's not like I don't rinse my mouth, and I take a bath before going to sleep. Who says a bride can't eat?"
Granny Chang argued forcefully, "The Prince's Mansion is not an ordinary household, and its etiquette is naturally beyond that of ordinary households."
Zisu retorted, "When Granny Qiao was instructing the Princess, she never said that she couldn't eat anything."
Granny Qiao was a model of etiquette in the palace, so Granny Chang couldn't possibly contradict her.
But Zisu underestimated Granny Chang's confidence.
Granny Chang said with a hint of arrogance, "The Prince is a clean person and very particular about everything. If the Princess is considerate of the Prince, she should follow the rules."
Nanqianyue's temper was completely out of control.
Her face turned cold, and her voice was sharp, "What rules? Did you make those rules? Since you're so considerate of him, why don't you sit here?"
Granny Chang panicked and quickly bowed, saying, "Why does Your Highness treat this old servant so harshly? How could this old servant dare to compare herself to Your Highness?"
My good mood from the month of moving south vanished without a trace, and I even lost my appetite.
She sat sullenly on the edge of the bed, not wanting to say another word.
Another half hour passed, and Zisu, calculating that the time was about right, said, "Your Highness, let me put the hair ornaments on you."
Nanqian Yue nodded, still not wanting to speak.
The atmosphere inside the spacious room was not pleasant, which Qin Yi immediately sensed when he strode in, reeking of alcohol.
He quickly closed the door, keeping the Fifth Princess and the others who had come to make a ruckus at the wedding room outside.
"Uncle! Why did you close the door!"
"We haven't even started causing trouble yet!" The Fifth Princess led the way, banging on the door frantically.
Qin Yi strode towards Nan Qianyue, took her hand, knelt down in front of her, and asked softly, "What's wrong?"
Granny Chang, who was standing to the side, saw that Qin Yi was kneeling on the ground with one knee. What kind of manners was this? He had completely reversed them.
“Your Highness, you are of noble status, how can you kneel before the Princess?” Granny Chang reached out to help him up.
Nanqianyue, her temper flaring, flung Qin Yi's hand away and said, "Go kneel before your wet nurse."
Qin Yi immediately understood. He gave Granny Chang a stern look and said, "Granny, you can leave. We don't need you to serve us here."
Granny Chang's outstretched hand froze. "Your Highness, you haven't finished your hair yet."
How could she, as the wet nurse, be absent from such an important event?
Qin Yi raised his voice a few decibels, "Get out."
Granny Chang was speechless, not daring to disobey Qin Yi, and could only bow and retreat, saying, "Yes."
Qin Yi grabbed Nan Qianyue's hand again, kissed it several times, and coaxed her with a look of coldness in her eyes, "Granny Chang has done me some favors, but that doesn't give her the right to boss you around. You are the princess, and you are in charge of the entire palace. If anyone offends you, you can punish them as you please, without worrying about me."
