Chapter 248 The Princess Returns, and the Prince Finally Regains His Rationality

Although the corpses were still several feet away from Nanjing, Xiao Chen recognized them at a glance.

Those were the sentries he had arranged to burn the grain supplies, but they were ambushed and killed by Prince Anzheng. It turned out that he had underestimated Prince Anzheng.

But it doesn't matter, he has more than one backup plan.

The Dongling army will not give Nanjing time to catch its breath, and its forces, twice the size of the vanguard battalion, are poised to attack.

Meanwhile, in the mountains behind the Nanjing army, Nan Qianyue and a ten-year-old boy were hiding in the bushes.

Nanqianyue squinted at the army and asked, "Ahe, is there a road that leads to the rear of the Dongling army?"

The boy called Ahe shook his head. "If we don't want to be seen by Nan Jing, we have to go through the mountains next to us, but the mountains next to Dongling Army are too steep and dangerous."

After a few seconds of contemplation, Nanqianyue asked again, "What if we go among them?"

The boy thought for a moment and said, "There's a way. Follow me."

The two armies clashed again, the soldiers were bloodthirsty and fought desperately for their lives, the number of corpses kept increasing.

The drums sounded, and the outcome of the second round was decided; Dongling had won again.

Their morale was high, while the opposing side appeared to be filled with anxiety.

The claim that Dongling established its nation through military might was not just empty talk, especially when facing the Black Cavalry and Dragon Cavalry. The morale of Nanjing was gradually declining.

Qin Yi's cold eyes flashed with murderous intent. He picked up his bow and arrow, aimed at someone, and drew it to its full length. In an instant, his fingers loosened, and the sharp arrow, carrying murderous intent, pierced through the blood-stained air and shot straight at Xiao Chen's face.

Xiao Chen swung his sword to block, his sinister gaze falling on the man in black armor.

A cold smile flickered across his lips as he said with absolute certainty, "His injuries are probably not healed yet. Since he has challenged me to a battle, then I will grant him death."

General Wan asked in confusion, "Why does Your Highness say this?"

Xiao Chen said coldly, "That arrow just now looked powerful, but in reality, it was due to insufficient internal force. His injury cannot be recovered in just half a month."

General Wan was still worried. "What if it's a scheme by Prince Anzheng? Your Highness, you can't take the risk. Your mother gave up the position of Empress for you. Don't let her down."

Xiao Chen's expression grew increasingly gloomy; in his heart, that vicious woman was no longer his mother.

"Uncle, there's no need to worry."

He spurred his horse slightly and rode through the vanguard to the very front of the army.

On the Dongling side, Qin Yi tossed his bow and arrows to the junior officer beside him, lightly pressed his fingertips on the hilt of his sword, and spurred his warhorse to the front of the army.

Zhuo Yuanzhi, the deputy commander of the Black Riders, looked alarmed. "Your Highness, we will teach Nan Jing a lesson. You are injured and cannot fight any longer."

The deputy commander of the Dragon Cavalry, Xiang Kui, was equally worried. "This humble general knows that Your Highness intends to kill the Crown Prince of Nan Jing. Please entrust this task to me, Your Highness. I will certainly complete the mission."

Qin Yi's attitude was resolute and unshakable. He slowly raised his hand, and the flag waved in response to his gesture. As soon as he lowered his hand, the final battle would begin.

However, at that moment, a pebble flew from the side and landed squarely on Qin Yi's raised hand.

He easily grasped it with his fingers, his breath caught in his throat, and his heartbeat became inexplicably erratic.

The voice seemed to echo in my ears, etched in my heart, coming from afar like a dream.

He couldn't believe it, thinking he was hallucinating again.

"Your Highness! Look! It's the Princess!" Zhuo Yuanzhi was so excited that he forgot his place and reached out to pat Qin Yi's arm.

"Qin Yi!"

This time the voice was clear enough that Qin Yi stiffly turned his head, his eyes instantly welling up with tears, and his body reacted first, spurring his horse toward her.

The two men, panting heavily, managed to sneak out right under the noses of both armies during their southward migration.

As he approached, before the horse's hooves had even stopped, Qin Yi hurriedly dismounted, spread his arms, and strode forward to greet her.

The moment I hugged her, the emotions that had been building up inside me could no longer be contained. My bloodshot eyes filled with hot tears, my throat tightened, and I wanted to speak but couldn't utter a sound.

All I could do was hold her tighter and tighter to fill the void in my heart.

Nan Qianyue felt a sharp pain from the hard black armor he was wearing, but her satisfaction was even greater. She strained her voice and said, "Stop using so much force, you're choking me."

Qin Yi let go in a panic, cupping her face and running his hands over every inch of her skin, as if to confirm whether it was real or not.

"I...I wasn't dreaming?" His voice was hoarse and trembling.

Nan Qianyue raised her hand to wipe away the tears on his face, her heart aching. "It's not a dream, I'm back."

"Nan Nan!" Xiao Chen rushed over, his eyes filled with a mixture of surprise and panic.

Nan Qianyue frowned slightly, slowly lowered her hand, turned to look at him, and said in a cold and distant tone, "I will not hold what happened before against you. From now on, we are strangers. I hope you will not be so persistent."

“Nan Nan…” Xiao Chen said with a pained expression and red eyes, “You clearly chose me two years ago, why did you change your mind? Don’t be so cruel to me.”

Nan Qianyue's brows furrowed, and she looked at Qin Yi with concern, noticing that his expression darkened upon hearing her words, and a hint of murderous intent emanated from him.

She took Qin Yi's hand and smiled, "I remember everything, all of my memories."

Qin Yi stared into her eyes, his lips pressed stiffly together, and remained silent.

Nanqianyue temporarily put him aside, her smile fading as she looked at Xiao Chen seriously. "You're wrong. I've never had feelings for you, so how can you say I've changed my mind?"

"You know perfectly well what's going on in your heart, but you're just deceiving yourself."

Xiao Chen's pupils dilated, and he was so provoked that he uttered a word.

Nanqianyue ignored him and looked up at Qin Yi, saying seriously, "When I came here, I found myself in a desolate village. All the young people had run away, leaving only elderly people with limited mobility and toddlers. Do you know why?"

Qin Yi understood, but still asked cooperatively, "Why?"
