Chapter 3: Exchanging her for the people below the city walls

He looked coldly at Nan Qianyue, "You really are a spy."

A thousand words stuck in her throat as she fled south. She felt utterly aggrieved and hurriedly waved her hands, "I'm not a spy, you've got the wrong person!"

The armored man ignored her excuses and swiftly pointed two fingers at her chest. Nan Qianyue froze instantly, unable to move or speak.

Was he hit by acupressure?

Does that prove that she really did time travel...?

The armored man carried Nanqianyue out of the alley and roughly threw her to the ground on the wide street.

Nan Qianyue was in pain but couldn't cry out. She sat stiffly on the ground and saw the black man who said he would save her.

He had one arm cut off, and his black face turned a deep liver color from the pain.

As she moved south, Yue's pupils suddenly dilated, the bloody reality assaulting every nerve in her body.

The armored man saw her expression and became even more certain that the two were in cahoots, both spies from Dongling.

He held the knife to Nan Qianyue's neck, threatening the black man, "Tell me what you just sent, or I'll kill her!"

The black man gave a sarcastic smile. "What does her life or death have to do with me? Uh—!"

After saying this, he bit through the poison hidden in his mouth and committed suicide, before the armored man could stop him.

"General, he's dead!" The soldier checked the black man's breath and found that he had died instantly.

The armored man's eyes were dark and his words were cruel: "Dissect his body and retrieve the letter!"

Although he did not stop the spy from swallowing the letter in time, it was clear that the spy was in a hurry and swallowed it hastily without chewing it.

"yes!"

The soldier raised his knife and brought it down mercilessly, tearing the black-robed man's body open. Blood splattered everywhere, and Nan Qianyue was covered in it.

She suffered severe nerve damage, and her jaw was trembling.

"Found it! General, look!"

The soldier presented the small paper tube that he had taken from the black man's body to the armored man.

He fixed his gaze on the paper and quickly opened it, only to find it read:

Yang Hua captured a woman surnamed Nan, who was exceptionally beautiful and was suspected to be the missing daughter of the Prime Minister Nan.

Nanqianyue didn't know what the armored man saw, but she saw him frown and suddenly look at her.

"If that's the case, then I'll use you to save the lives of the people."

Nanqianyue didn't understand what he meant. Unable to move or speak, she could only watch helplessly as the armored man carried her away.

They fought their way up to the city wall.

She was finally placed on the ground. Because her head had been upside down the whole way, the backflow of blood made her dizzy and disoriented, and it took her a long time to recover.

The armored man's voice rang in his ears again, "Lord, look."

The old man in the blue robe with a single white hair took the note and glanced at it briefly. He looked at Nan Qianyue, who was sitting on the ground, and asked, "Are you the daughter of the Southern Chancellor of Dongling?"

The armored man crouched down and released Nan Qianyue's pressure points. "The city lord is asking questions, answer quickly."

"Cough, cough." Nan Qianyue coughed out the air that had been trapped in her chest, and took several deep breaths before she could catch her breath.

Her gaze swept past the armored man and around her: the city walls built of bluestone, the fluttering dark blue and white banners, the soldiers with knives at their waists and bows and arrows in their hands—this was… a battlefield.

"I don't know what you're talking about. What Nanxiang? I don't know him."

Anger flashed in the armored man's eyes. He grabbed Nan Qianyue's chin and said, "You're stubborn, aren't you? Then let Dongling see for themselves!"

After saying that, the armored man grabbed Nan Qianyue by the shoulder and lifted her up, making her face down from the city wall.

Upon seeing this, Nanqian Yue was startled.

Looking around, the densely packed black-armored soldiers stretched as far as the eye could see. Half of them rode on warhorses, while several armored generals were stationed at key positions, all in perfect order and exuding an imposing aura.

In front of them, a dozen or so people dressed in plain clothes knelt in two rows, each with a black-armored soldier holding a knife standing beside them.

Nanqianyue had never seen such a scene before. Even when filming, the crew couldn't arrange so many extras.

This is a real battlefield...

She couldn't describe the shock she felt. As her gaze moved, she felt an intensely burning gaze fixed on her. She looked at the Dongling army, trying to find the source of the gaze.

Finally, her gaze settled on the tall, imposing man in black armor standing in the middle of the front-line army. Even though she was standing on the city wall and couldn't see his face clearly, her heart tightened the moment she saw his imposing presence.

Her intuition told her that he was a terrifying man.

Presumably, he must be the marshal the spy was talking about.

During the southward migration, Yue dared not look at the marshal too much, and instead shifted her gaze to the rear of the army.

However, that burning gaze never stopped, which she found very strange, because it seemed to be coming from the marshal.

Nanqianyue admitted that she was very beautiful, the kind of beauty that was boundless, but at such a distance, it was impossible to see her face clearly, so how could she have fallen for her at first glance?

In the Eastern Mausoleum army, a female general's eyes widened in surprise when she saw the woman who suddenly appeared on the city wall. She turned to the major general beside her and asked, "Did you see her?"

The major general withdrew his gaze, his brows furrowed with the same worry as the female general's. He nodded, "Mm."

After exchanging a glance, the two turned to look at the imposing man on the iron cavalry, and sure enough, he was staring intently at the woman on the city wall.

The major general couldn't help but remind him, "Your Highness, this might be a conspiracy by Fengdu. That woman might not necessarily be Miss Nan."

The man ignored her, his gaze fixed on the woman. When he saw the blood on her body, a cold glint appeared in his eyes, sending chills down one's spine.

On the city wall, Yang Hua observed the reactions of the Dongling generals. He smirked and roared down:

"Qin Yi! If you want to save this woman, exchange her for the people below the city!"
