Chapter 39 The Fifth Princess's Invitation

The dinner, each person harboring their own secrets, finally came to an end.

After returning to Qingyun Courtyard, Nanqianyue finished washing up, changed into her nightgown, and was about to go to bed when the Prime Minister's wife arrived.

“Mother, why didn’t you let anyone know? I could have come to you myself. Why did you have to make the trip?” Nan Qianyue sat properly by the bed, speaking politely.

The Prime Minister's wife, who bore a striking resemblance to her, had no superfluous expression on her face; even her eyes were perfectly calm, making it impossible to guess what she was thinking.

"Do you really like Prince Anzheng?" The Prime Minister's wife asked without any preamble, posing a question that shocked everyone.

Nanqianyue tried hard to control her expression, saying, "I don't like it."

How could she like a man who's like a beast?

"Then why did you chase after him to the Eastern Border two years ago?" The Prime Minister's wife's tone became more stern.

As the moon waned south, she lowered her gaze, a slight smile playing on her lips, but inwardly she was analyzing the situation.

The news of her amnesia has spread throughout the capital. The Prime Minister's wife must know this. Is she asking this to test whether her amnesia is real or fake?

After all, when people are under pressure, they are often easily swayed by their emotions and may inadvertently reveal what they are hiding.

"Mother, have you forgotten that I have amnesia and don't remember anything from before?" Nan Qianyue's expression and tone were serious, and she didn't seem to be lying at all.

The Prime Minister's wife seemed to breathe a sigh of relief and finally showed a tiny smile. "Your words and actions were inappropriate today, and you should be punished, but considering your long journey, I will spare you."

She paused for a moment, then continued, "Qianyue, the royal family is not a good place to go. Your mother will find you a good marriage. You must not associate with members of the royal family in private anymore."

Nanqianyue lowered her head slightly, "Yes, Mother, don't worry."

After seeing off the Prime Minister's wife, Nanqianyue could finally lie down in her soft quilt.

She turned over and did some pre-sleep tidying up.

Qin Yi said that the Prime Minister was his man, but they were just pretending to be at odds. Does the Prime Minister's wife know about this?

Because she felt that the Prime Minister's wife's dislike for Qin Yi didn't seem like an act...

To find a way back, the first step is to recover one's memories. But how? Ask around. If Qin Yi won't tell, ask others. Xiao Chen is currently unreachable…

Nanqianyue slowly drifted off to sleep amidst her chaotic thoughts. Lately, she had been having a lot of dreams, mostly nightmares.

In her dream, a demon reached out its bloody hand and touched her cheek. The sensation was so real that it almost scared her out of her wits.

The evil spirit seemed to be a pervert, actually pouting its ugly mouth at her. However, she was powerless and unable to move, and could only endure the evil spirit kissing her with fear and anger.

The next day, the green-clad figure awakened the southward-migrating moon.

"Miss, it's time to get up. You still need to pay your respects to Madam."

Nanqianyue had nightmares all night and couldn't get up because she didn't sleep well. She also couldn't listen to what Greenie was saying.

When she arrived at Luhua Courtyard, Aunt Liu and her younger siblings were already there; she was the only one who was late.

Nan Yichu couldn't hide the schadenfreude on her face.

Aunt Liu and Nan Kezhi, on the other hand, appeared extremely calm.

"Qianyue greets Mother." Nan Qianyue pretended to know nothing and bowed to the Prime Minister's wife.

The Prime Minister's wife's brow furrowed slightly. She opened her mouth, her voice carrying a hint of sternness, "You still can't shake your habit of sleeping in late? If you have trouble getting up, next time I'll let you—"

"Madam! The Fifth Princess's people have arrived!" A servant ran in from the outer courtyard.

The Prime Minister's wife, though interrupted, remained composed and asked, "What is it you wish to say?"

"Reporting to Madam, we are looking for the eldest daughter."

The moon rises as the princess migrates south; is that the Fifth Princess?

According to what Qingyi had said, this fifth princess should be the daughter of Yang Guifei, and she also had a twin brother, the fourth prince.

So why did the Fifth Princess seek her out?

The Prime Minister's wife glanced at Nan Qianyue and said, "Just say that the eldest daughter is ill and cannot receive guests."

The servant replied, "Yes."

No sooner had the servant left than the steward rushed back.

"Madam, the Fifth Princess's people said they'd like to invite the eldest young lady to Lan Yue Tower for a chat, and also said... don't use illness as an excuse." The steward's last sentence sounded very awkward.

The Prime Minister's wife stood up, her arm linked with the old woman's, a hint of displeasure in her eyes. "Qian Yue has only just returned and you're already in such a hurry to invite her. I'm afraid you have ulterior motives."

“Mother.” Nan Qianyue stepped forward and held the Prime Minister’s wife’s wrist, saying obediently, “It’s hard to cause trouble in broad daylight. Since you’ve openly invited me, I’ll go and see.”

"Don't worry, I will come back safe and sound."

The Prime Minister's wife looked at Nan Qianyue with a hint of speculation in her eyes, "Take a few guards with you. If you encounter any trouble, prioritize your own safety."

Nanqianyue smiled and nodded. It seemed that this Fifth Princess was a rival. Her usually composed mother was not shying away from telling her to be wary.

A finely decorated carriage was parked at the gate of the Prime Minister's residence, and a maid in green robes stood outside the carriage with her chin tilted back.

"Miss Nan, the Fifth Princess has sent me to fetch you." As she spoke, she lifted the curtain and gestured for Nan Qianyue to enter, her disdain quite evident on her face.

Nan Qianyue smiled and said, "No need, I'll just ride in my own carriage."

Upon hearing this, the maid in green immediately turned cold. "As expected, she has no manners and doesn't even know the basic etiquette of respecting others."

Green Robe, the maidservant beside Nan Qianyue, immediately retorted, "A maidservant who dares to reprimand her mistress is indeed ill-mannered and doesn't understand hierarchy."

The maid in green opened her eyes, but suppressed her anger and did not lash out.

At this moment, the Prime Minister's carriage was driven over by the coachman, followed by seven or eight guards.

The maid in green frowned upon seeing this. "Miss Nan, what do you mean by this? It's just a small gathering at a restaurant. Is it necessary to bring so many people?"

Nanqianyue didn't even spare her a second glance, and with the help of the woman in green, she went straight to her own carriage.
