Task 2

Task 2

The living room of 27A was so quiet that you could hear a pin drop.

Jiang Yu asked worriedly, "Emotional transfer?" Ying Yungui tapped his solar plexus with his fingertips and said, "Knowing that both parties were under mental control, this is the most reasonable explanation."

Shi Youchen remained noncommittal. He suggested another method of supporting evidence: "We can't be 100% certain right now. It would be best if we could get relevant data from previous incidents to see if there's anything that fits this hypothesis."

Ying Yungui brushed his brows with his finger and said, "Ask Yan Zhiyuan?"

Shi Youchen shook his head: "If you want documents and information, there are people more suitable than him." As he said that, he dialed Lin Zhouze's number.

“Beep—beep—”

"Hello?" The phone was connected, and a gentle and warm voice came from the other end.

Shi Youchen glanced at the name "Lin Zhouze" displayed on the screen, and after confirming that he hadn't made a typo, he spoke: "Yan Zhiyuan, this is Shi Youchen. I want to get some information from Lin Zhouze. Is he... available?"

Yan Zhiyuan's voice was filled with fatigue that he couldn't hide. "He's still in a coma. Send me any information you need. I'll find it and send it to you later."

The tone of the words "in coma" was so vague that it made people's hearts tremble, so Shi Youchen couldn't bear to ask further. He just said "OK" and hung up the phone.

Ying Yungui saw Shi Youchen's unspeakable expression after he hung up the phone and asked, "What's wrong?"

Shi Youchen typed a message in the chat box and replied, "It seems something happened to Lin Zhouze. Yan Zhiyuan answered the phone. He said he'd send it to me when he had it sorted out later." After a pause, he added, "He sounded really tired."

Ying Yun straightened his expression and said, "If that's the case, we might not be able to get the information so quickly. What should we do next?"

Shi Youchen pressed his solar plexus and said, "There are two ways. One is to just wait, which will waste time, but is better than looking for a needle in a haystack; the other is to send the document to the District 10 branch first to complete the task, and by the way..." He glanced at the direction of the bedroom, where Li Sen was taking a nap.

Jiang Yu: "Her adoption procedures are still being processed. What are your plans?" Seeing the two people hesitant to speak, he vaguely guessed something.

Ying Yungui observed Shi Youchen's expression for a moment, noticing a hint of dark circles beneath his fair eyes, even the corners of his eyes drooping slightly. Ever since arriving in District 10, he'd been constantly on edge, perhaps even before that.

It's been a while since I had a good rest, and I'm tired.

Ying Yungui sighed softly and said, "There is a third way. Don't rush to complete the task, but don't wait. There will be a fireworks display in the city center tomorrow night. Let's go and see the human world."

——"Then let's look at the snow-capped mountains first, then the human world. When everything is over, we'll go to the 10th District Branch to deliver the documents."

Shi Youchen twitched the corner of his mouth, wondering how come he had forgotten what he had said.

"OK."

The next evening.

Luo Zhao yelled through the door: "Jiang Yu! Come and help me choose some clothes!"

Jiang Yu turned on the juicer, wiped his hands, and opened the bedroom door. Luo Zhao was scratching his head, choosing clothes to wear.

She pointed to a light yellow lambskin coat and said, "Isn't this one too childish?" Then she picked up the black velvet long shirt next to it and said, "This one is too formal and doesn't suit me."

Jiang Yu said jokingly, "Do you really have to choose from the new clothes?"

Luo Zhao answered confidently, "What else can I do? If I put it in the cabinet, I don't know when I can take it out again. Besides, who told you to buy so many? You knew I have difficulty making choices."

Jiang Yu tried his best to control the corners of his mouth from rising too much, and thought to himself: Of course you bought so much because you knew it, so you asked me for help.

Luo Zhao continued to struggle: "I have to consider the temperature and also want to be the most beautiful. Being a beauty is such a hard job." She picked and chose, eliminating the really unsuitable ones, and kept three. She looked at Jiang Yu and said, "You choose!"

Jiang Yu glanced at it: "The red one."

Luo Zhao picked up the dark red jumpsuit and the black vest on the left, his eyes lit up: "This one! Wait for me!" After that, he ran into the locker room.

After a moment, Jiang Yu looked at the person in front of him. Her long red hair was tied up into a neat ponytail, she wore a pair of shiny black leather mid-calf boots, and a light silver waist chain around her waist. She was so dazzling that people couldn't take their eyes off her.

Jiang Yu felt that Luo Zhao was really suitable for the color red, like the rising sun.

Luo Zhao always felt that Jiang Yu understood him better than he did, and that he had never made any mistakes in the clothes he bought.

"Let's go." The girl said coolly without putting on her sunglasses.

"Yeah, it looks good." The boy never hesitated to praise her or smile at her.

...

The city center square was bustling with people, and a steady stream of people were rushing in. The observation deck on the rooftop of Yikou Shopping Mall was brightly lit, illuminating several figures of varying heights.

Luo Zhao smiled proudly and said, "Fortunately, I had foresight! I didn't let you guys crowd the square."

Ying Yungui put down her arrogance: "Are you sure this was your idea?"

Jiang Yu smiled and said nothing.

Luo Zhao: "Jiang Yu's idea is my idea. By the way, why didn't I realize that this mall has such a great location before?"

Ying Yungui scoffed: "Have you ever cared about the Luo family's assets?"

Luo Zhao snorted, raised his glass of Coke and said to the others, "Come on! Let's toast to our tomorrow!"

The evening breeze warmed Shi Youchen's cheeks, and even his head. He had never experienced anything like this before, so under Luo Zhao's enthusiastic gaze, he could only slowly raise his water cup and hand.

Ying Yungui looked at the extremely excited girl and asked Jiang Yu with a look that asked, "Has she always been like this?", and received a doting smile from the other party that said, "Let her be happy."

"Bang!" "Pop!" The fireworks display began.

Colorful fireworks spread in the night sky, like splashing colorful paint on the dark curtain, and were swallowed up by the starry sky in an instant. The stars in the distance seemed brighter, and the people on the ground were shrouded in the fleeting light for a long time.

The night is as bright as the day.

Ying Yungui gave a slight shake of his wrist and clinked his glass with Shi Youchen's. He asked softly, "Which is more beautiful?"

Shi Youchen felt very strange. He found that he could always understand Ying Yungui's meaning effortlessly, just like now.

"If I have to say, I prefer snow-capped mountains."

The snow-capped mountains are pure and peaceful, while the mortal world is noisy and brilliant.

Ying Yungui's eyes were filled with mystery as he lowered his gaze to look at the throng of people in the central square. After a while, Youchen had almost forgotten about this conversation, when he suddenly spoke again, "One day, you'll find this more beautiful."

Shi Youchen didn't pay much attention to his words. He took a sip of water and watched the fireworks rise into the sky and fall.

Li Sen put down the empty milk cup, tugged at the corner of Shi Youchen's clothes, and whispered, "Brother, I want to go to the bathroom." Shi Youchen was stunned and walked to Luo Zhao's side. "Li Sen drank too much milk and wants to go to the bathroom. It's not convenient for me. Can you accompany her?"

Luo Zhao pushed down his sunglasses and extended his hand to Li Sen: "Come on! Sister will take you to open a new map!"

After the two left, Ying Yungui asked seriously, "Can you get drunk from Coke?"

...

A little girl about six or seven years old was squatting against the wall with her knees curled up, her face buried in her legs, and her shoulders twitching.

It seemed as if someone had stopped in front of her, without moving for a long time. The little girl finally shook her head left and right, wiped her tears on her pants, and looked up with a pout.

A little boy, also about six or seven years old, stood in front of her, blocking the last ray of light coming in through the crack of the small classroom door.

"You..." The girl gritted her teeth and was about to speak fiercely, but she saw the boy pull out a neatly folded small square handkerchief from his trouser pocket. There was a crooked red circle embroidered on the corner. He handed the handkerchief forward and said calmly: "If you wipe your pants, you will be discovered. Use this."

The girl stared with her eyes wide open: "Who...who is crying! I'm not crying!" Her eyes were red and the corners of her mouth were trembling unconsciously.

The boy turned his head to the side, his arms still raised. "You're not crying, you're just sweating from gym class."

The girl was startled, and suddenly raised her hand to grab the handkerchief and held it in her palm, humming: "Yeah, I'm just sweating."

...

On the deserted, spacious street, a particularly long and narrow shadow appeared.

The thirteen or fourteen-year-old boy, still small and undeveloped, was carrying a girl of similar age, already well-developed. The girl's head was pressed against the back of the boy's neck, her legs swaying, her toes almost touching the ground.

The boy said in a hoarse voice: "Don't move, I'm almost out of strength."

The girl giggled, her breath tickling the boy's skin. "Then put me down and let me carry you on my back."

The boy didn't stop. He clenched his fists, wrapped his arms around his thighs, and pushed upward with force, lifting the person on his back a little higher.

"We're almost there, just hold on a little longer." Beads of sweat covered his forehead, but he couldn't free his hands to wipe them off. He cheered himself up in his heart and secretly decided to eat half a bowl more at every meal in the future.

In the second half of the journey, the girl was really well behaved and didn't make any unnecessary movements.

Around a corner, several black-clad bodyguards, carrying school supplies like backpacks and water bottles, followed the two people in front quietly. Passersby could hear them muttering, "Will the young lady not crush that boy?"

"I carried this all the way from school."

"Who knows? Miss doesn't like us driving her to and from school. She insists on walking to and from school."

...

In the high-end villa area, the boy took out the medicine box and put it on the table. He raised his chin at the grinning girl and said, "Raise your hands and roll up your sleeves." The sweat on his face had dried, but it was not noticeable on his pale skin.

The girl howled as she quickly unbuttoned and lifted her sleeves, revealing the bruises on her arms. A smug look crossed her face. "Hey, those guys can't beat me! And they're superpowered! How are they going to protect the world if they're this weak?"

The boy lowered his head and carefully treated his wound while saying coldly, "Who told you that people with superpowers must protect the world?"

The girl tilted her head. "Jiang Yu, a superpower! It's a one in a hundred thousand chance! If you don't protect the world, you're nothing but a worthless person!"

The boy closed his green eyes, dispelling the heat from them, and said, "If you can't even protect the people around you, how can you talk about protecting the world?"

...

Inside the barber shop, a tall girl shook her freshly dyed red hair, looked left and right in the mirror, and asked the boy behind her, "How about it, Jiang Yu, does it look good? I've finally graduated and can finally dye my hair this color!"

The boy had grown up and stood there tall and straight like a pine or cypress. His green eyes twinkled as he said, "It looks great. It suits you very well."

The girl chuckled, "Now I look even more like a superpowered person. It's a pity my eyes aren't red." She turned back and stared into the boy's eyes, grinning sinisterly, "Why don't you dye your hair green?"

...

Inside the bar, a bald, greasy uncle, holding a glass of wine, drunkenly teased the red-haired girl: "Beautiful girl, your hair is quite unique. Want a drink?"

"Can you please go away? Are you annoying me?" The girl rolled her eyes and dodged. The man was so angry that he was about to throw wine at her.

The girl was pulled away by someone beside her, avoiding the spilled liquid. "Are you fucking sick?" The girl was furious and threw the drink in her cup into the man's face, then turned around with the boy beside her.

The bald man was drunk and humiliated, so he picked up the bottle of wine on the table and smashed it forward in anger.

"Bang!" "Crack."

The girl turned around suddenly and saw the boy stroking the back of his head and slowly squatting down, with traces of scarlet blood seeping out from between his fingers.

"Jiang Yu!"

...

"Jiang Yu!" Luo Zhao suddenly opened his eyes. Before he felt the weightlessness of being suspended in the air, he was shocked by the scene in front of him.

A dagger, gleaming coldly with blood, was lodged in Jiang Yu's right shoulder, piercing him from front to back. He half-knelt on the ground, his eyes fixed fixedly on his own direction.

The fireworks were still exploding, covering up many sounds, but Luo Zhao could still recognize from Jiang Yu's lip shape what he said - "Don't move."
