Chapter 16 Harsh Requirements
"What's wrong with the kid? When I was his age, I was already helping with housework! I think this kid is just lazy and should be taken out for a good stroll!"
The officers were obviously unhappy that Cheng Weiyao had shown up again to cause trouble, and they immediately retorted. In their eyes, they were all a group of exiles, and no matter whether they were men or women, young or old, they had to stand aside.
"But……"
Cheng Weiyao felt so distressed when she saw Wen Chengming being pulled. She was just about to argue with him about the child labor issue, but she came to her senses after hearing what the officer said.
There was no such thing as child labor in ancient times. Children matured early and human rights were not taken seriously at all, so they still had to work.
"What do you mean by "but"? If you really care, why don't you do it for him yourself? And you should understand your status. You are either a high-ranking royal relative or a prisoner!"
A hint of mockery flashed across the eyes of the officers. They did not pull Wen Chengming away, but just crossed their arms and looked at Cheng Weiyao with a haughty look on their faces.
"Cheng Weiyao, right? I'm telling you the truth, I've been putting up with you for a long time. Your man hasn't said anything, and you, a stinky bitch, are you still babbling here? What the hell are you talking about?"
"Husband?"
Cheng Weiyao turned her gaze to Wen Chengyun. He had a calm expression on his face and obviously had no objection to working with Wen Chengming.
Is Wen Chengyun a coward? How can he be so patient?!
Cheng Weiyao just felt strange. The official was so arrogant that he even bullied his family. What was Wen Chengyun's purpose? He just tolerated it...
"Alright, your family head has no objection, little one, just follow me obediently. With your brother backing you up, you can do less..."
Wen Chengyun's conciliatory attitude eased the tense atmosphere between Cheng Weiyao and the officers. One of the officers reached out and patted Wen Chengming's little head, as if teasing a dog.
"Sir, I'll go and help too. It's the same for one person or two people..."
Cheng Weiyao was full of doubts, so she volunteered to go with them. One reason was to avoid offending the officials, and the other was to verify her inner thoughts.
Several officers were planning to let her go, but they didn't expect this person to be so blind. When they ran into her, they just took her away.
Wen Chengyun and Wen Chengming were sent to the river bank to repair the damaged stone bridge. Wen Chengyun was quite strong and moving the stones was no problem for him.
However, Wen Chengming was young and had limited strength, so he could only use small stones to fill the larger gaps in the bridge piers.
"What are you looking at? Why are you so slow at chopping wood? If you can't do it, then get Wen Chengming to come over!"
The officers gathered in groups of three or four around to warm themselves by the fire. When they saw Cheng Weiyao distracted by looking at her family, they immediately became unhappy and started to find fault.
They now understood why Cheng Weiyao, the sister-in-law, was so protective of her younger brother. Perhaps it was because she had a clean heart that she was empathizing with him...
"It's already being chopped, don't worry."
Cheng Weiyao withdrew her gaze. She had originally thought that she could observe with them, but her hope was dashed.
Ultimately, it was his own recklessness. Since Wen Chengming was always with Wen Chengyun, how could he endure any hardship? Most of the dirty work was done by Wen Chengyun himself... No wonder this man didn't stop him.
Even though her fighting skills are not bad, she is still a woman after all, especially the delicate hands of the original body. Since Cheng Weiyao took over the body, she has basically never had a rest and her hands are in a mess.
"Okay, go wash our brothers' clothes and hang them over here to dry while there's still fire. Hold them tight and wring them out!"
After finally chopping the firewood designated by the officials, a new task was given before he even hit the ground.
Cheng Weiyao felt the veins on her forehead bulge. She had just finished chopping wood, and her knuckles were still numb from the shock. The wood chips had left numerous small cuts on her hands. And now they were asking her to do the laundry? These officials were known for torturing people...
"Don't want to wash? It's not impossible, that Wen..."
"I'll wash it now. It's this pile of clothes."
A crocodile smile appeared on Cheng Weiyao's face. She looked well-behaved and obedient, but in fact, she wanted to eat the official who spoke to her alive.
The job of washing clothes was at least closer to the river bank, and Cheng Weiyao happened to be closer to the Wen Chengyun brothers.
But what disappointed Cheng Weiyao was that the two of them hardly talked to each other. But then she thought, Wen Chengming was just a child of a few years old, how could he understand any conspiracy or intrigue.
"Okay, that's all for now. You guys can go back."
The leader looked at Cheng Weiyao who was hanging clothes honestly, and slowly started to act like a good person. After all, he had collected a lot of things, so he could just consider it a small benefit.
"Thank you, sir."
Cheng Wei Yao pretended to be grateful, turned around, covered her stomach and pretended to urinate.
In fact, she wanted to take this opportunity to avoid everyone. She had too much work to do, and the requirements were more demanding than the last.
This whole ordeal was even more tiring than cutting bamboo and crossing a river. Cheng Weiyao felt like she was completely exhausted. If she went back now, the food she had heated up earlier would have already been distributed...
Cheng Wei Yao finally found a secluded place where she could vaguely see the resting place and sat down. Her consciousness flashed, and she had a new skewer in her hand.
The insulation and heat preservation of the space were both excellent. While Cheng Weiyao was chewing on the skewers to recover her strength, she was mentally calculating her next steps...
Even though the road of exile is long, it always has an end. After reaching the end, what awaits the prisoners is usually hard labor in the dark, until they die of old age.
Although I have space as a plug-in and don’t need to worry about supplies for the time being, but husband and wife are one body, can I just ignore Wen Chengyun’s whole family?
Moreover, although she married far away, her original body's parents were still in the mansion, so it was hard to say whether she received the treatment she deserved after getting married.
I took over the original owner's body, so I can't ignore the original owner's family...
One is her husband's family, and the other is her parents' family. Although Cheng Weiyao traveled through time, she was a bachelor before coming here. When faced with this eternal problem, she has no idea what to do.
Just as she was struggling to decide what to do, two figures, one big and one small, gradually approached. It seemed that the repair of the stone bridge was complete.
"Little brother, come and sit down, and let's eat something together to fill our stomachs."
Cheng Weiyao didn't hide anything and waved gently at Wen Chengming. Looking at his somewhat embarrassed little face, she sighed that this child was born in the wrong era.
In modern times, how could I endure such hardship? I was once a treasure in my hand, but now I can only live as a laborer...
"Thank you, sister-in-law."
Wen Chengming sat down obediently on Cheng Weiyao's left, took the skewers and started eating. It was obvious from the way he was eating that he was exhausted.
"Thank you, ma'am."
Wen Chengyun couldn't help laughing, lifted his robe and sat down next to Cheng Weiyao's right.
The two of them seemed to be in perfect sync, and they didn't even ask where Cheng Weiyao got her food from...
