A good breakfast can't compensate for the mental strain of two long lectures.
As soon as the bell rang and the professor left the classroom, Ye Li and her classmates quickly packed their bags and rushed out.
Once outside the teaching building, the crowd dispersed, heading towards their respective target restaurants.
Imperial University's student cafeteria is renowned nationwide for its excellence, offering low prices and a wide variety of food. The cafeteria staff treat students like their own lively and adorable children, and the students' plates are piled up like small mountains.
Ye Li only ate it twice before avoiding it again.
It was delicious, and it was also true that we couldn't finish it all. So much so that every time I cleaned up the plates, I felt guilty, thinking that not only wasting food was shameful, but also wasting the sincerity of the cafeteria ladies.
No matter how much she said she couldn't eat, the cafeteria ladies still enthusiastically piled a small mountain of food on her plate.
After that, Ye Li ate at the Sixth Restaurant.
The sixth restaurant serves stir-fries, which are a bit more expensive but come in much smaller portions; its main focus is on fine dining.
When you occasionally run into an acquaintance, sharing something with each other is like having a big meal.
Nowadays, Ye Li no longer expects to run into acquaintances; she's just happy to be able to finish her meal in peace.
However, while Ye Li thought this way, others did not.
"Didn't the Ye family go bankrupt? Why is she still coming here to eat? She's really something..."
"There's no way around it. Life can be downgraded in an instant, but consumption can't. If you eat Western-style steak every day, and suddenly you're asked to eat cabbage leaves, could you handle it?"
"I admire her for being so calm and composed, unfazed by praise or criticism. If I were in debt for a hundred million, I'd probably just go cool off on the rooftop, but she can still come out and spend lavishly without batting an eye. I'm truly impressed!"
...
The people speaking were all people who had shared a table with before or had greeted each other before.
A group of men and women looked at her with disdain, as if it were an unforgivable sin for her to come here to spend money despite owing a huge debt.
Choosing to continue eating over turning away, Ye Li ordered her food without changing her expression and carried it to a table a little distance away.
The murmurs continued, but Ye Li pretended not to hear them.
After an unknown amount of time, a cry of surprise rang out, "My God, look!"
One of the girls raised her phone and waved it around, and everyone else immediately stopped eating and took out their phones to look at it.
"No wonder, so she's hooked up with a sugar daddy, tsk tsk tsk..."
"That's why people say this is a society that judges by appearance. If a family like ours owes a few million or tens of millions, the sky will fall, but if someone owes a hundred million, they can still live a high-end life."
"I haven't seen her around the dorm area lately. I thought she was too embarrassed to show her face and moved out, but it turns out she was transferred to Starry Sky Apartment. It really makes a difference if you have connections..."
"Luckily, her father is dead. If he knew his own daughter had done something like this, he'd be turning in his grave."
"Hahahaha..."
Snap!
Ye Li slammed her chopsticks on the table.
She tolerated accusations that she was a gold digger.
But when it comes to fathers, no one can stand it!
The group was engrossed in their phones when they looked up and saw Ye Li walking over with a dark expression.
Realizing that Ye Li had powerful backers, the group exchanged glances and dared not say anything more.
They were about to leave without even eating.
"Ye Li, if you're so capable, don't be afraid of what people say!"
"That's right... If you're upright, you have nothing to fear. Are you feeling guilty?"
"Being classmates with someone like you is truly the worst luck I could ever have!"
Before leaving, they didn't forget to make a few more sarcastic remarks to Ye Li, and then they hurriedly left.
Ye Li, with her sharp eyes, noticed one of the people's phone screens. Seeing the familiar page, she paused for a moment, then opened the phone.
