Start chasing wife
"My grandmother said that sincerity is the key to success, so she told me to come to Lingyan Temple every day to pray for the Buddha's blessing. Perhaps the Buddha saw my strong heart and sincerity and sent you, Miss Su, to save my life."
Fu Xuechen's impromptu performance, when put together, really did seem like the real thing.
"The stairs are quite high. You must be exhausted from dragging your fragile body up that high. Since the Bodhisattva has appeared and brought us together, I will definitely try my best."
Su Qingli believed it to be true. The series of chance encounters and the words of the highly respected abbot of Lingyan Temple made her bewildered and her eyes blinded.
Fu Xuechen changed the subject: "Miss Su, let's go somewhere else. This cabin is too simple. Tan has never properly entertained Miss Su. Miss Su came early, so she might not have had breakfast."
"That's exactly what I was thinking. Although this isn't an official road, people do come here occasionally. I'm a married woman, so it's safer to find a secluded place to avoid being seen by people I know and causing criticism."
Su Qingli was concerned about the reputation of the Qi family, and she herself was not afraid of what people said.
Fu Xuechen brought Su Qingli to a large teahouse he ran, which was quite a distance away from the Qi Mansion. They hired a carriage.
This teahouse is a large wooden building with an attic. There is no plaque hanging above the door, but you can smell the refreshing aroma of tea inside.
Qian Jue explained, "Miss Su, this is a teahouse run by my son. It just opened a short time ago and we haven't thought of a name yet, so it's been empty without a plaque."
Su Qingli looked at the master and servant who had covered their faces the entire time, wondering why the two grown men were hiding. "Why don't you take off your veils?"
"Miss Su, we didn't take down the veil because we were afraid of scaring you. A few years ago, our house caught fire, and my servants were disfigured trying to save me. I was also completely disfigured in the fire, and I've only managed to survive until now."
When Fu Xuechen said this, he sighed deeply and let out a long sigh.
"I'm really sorry for bringing up your sad stories." Su Qingli apologized immediately with a guilty look on her face.
"Ms. Su, please come in!" Fu Xuechen stood by the door and made an inviting gesture.
The staircase of the wooden building was also brand new, with a smell of wood. The three of them stepped on it with the sound of thudding steps and arrived at the private room on the second floor.
Fu Xuechen placed the guqin on a custom-made guqin table.
Su Qingli looked around. The room was elegant and simple, clean and tidy. She casually ran her fingers across a piece of furniture, and there was not a speck of dust.
There was a large screen dividing most of the room. Su Qingli sat in front of the zither table. "Master Tan, can we start now?"
"Please wait a moment, Miss Su. I cannot let a distinguished guest like Miss Su go hungry while I heal my heart disease."
As soon as Fu Xuechen finished speaking, he heard two or three footsteps coming up the stairs. It seemed that everyone was wearing clogs, but in fact it was due to the effect of the wooden building.
The breakfast was very sumptuous, with eight-treasure porridge and white fungus soup, one serving of steamed dumplings and buns, three or four kinds of dishes, three meat dishes, one soup and two stir-fries. Three waiters set the steaming hot food on the table and quietly left.
"Mr. Tan, you and your servants should come and have breakfast together. I can't finish all this by myself anyway." Su Qingli waved her hand, motioning the two to sit down and enjoy breakfast together.
"We are ugly and ferocious, and will only scare Miss Su. We have already had breakfast when we arrived. Please enjoy it, Miss Su. This is what I carefully prepared for you."
Fu Xuechen still politely refused Su Qingli on the grounds that he looked scary. This trick worked every time. Sure enough, Su Qingli did not invite him out again enthusiastically and respected his decision.
After Su Qingli had a full meal, she sat for a while and then officially began to treat heart disease with the sound of the piano. She sat in front of the piano and tuned it for a while. With her skillful fingertips, a beautiful song filled the private room.
Fu Xuechen sat behind several spliced screens, removed the annoying veil, and stared at Su Qingli who was playing the piano with full concentration, lost in thought.
Su Qingli glanced at the burning incense bell. Noon was not far away. "Master Tan, I will come over to play tomorrow. That's all for today."
Fu Xuechen put on his veil, stepped out from behind the screen, and gently placed a glittering piece of gold on the zither table. "Miss Su, you helped me heal my heart disease, but you can't do it for free. This is the reward you deserve."
"My music is not worth so much money. I volunteered to treat Mr. Tan's heart disease, so I won't accept the money."
Su Qingli wanted to emulate the abbot of Lingyan Temple and be a compassionate person. Perhaps if she released kindness, she could move the gods, and Qi Jinqian's beloved would soon appear.
The agreement between them could end early, and she wouldn't have to suffer the torture of unnecessary labor.
"How can I not accept this? Miss Su, you must take this money. I was born into a merchant family, and the last thing I lack is money. You can save my life, and any amount of money is worth it! Please don't despise it, Miss Su."
Fu Xuechen didn't want Su Qingli to use Qi Jinqian's money, so he was generous. He ran several businesses under his control, and the salary from the court alone could not support his intelligence organization.
Su Qingli could not delay any longer and took the gold in her hand. "I would be disrespectful to refuse it."
She hadn't seen gold since the marquis's mansion was ransacked, and she carefully put it into her purse. After all, this money was earned by her own ability, which was better than getting something for nothing and taking Qi Jinqian's salary for free.
Thinking of this, Su Qingli felt a little more at ease.
Under Fu Xuechen's instructions, the carriage in the wooden building took Su Qingli to the vicinity of Qi Mansion.
Su Qingli jumped off the carriage and heard Su Zhaoming's voice behind her, "Sister, where are you going?"
"Brother, are you here at the Qi Mansion looking for me?" Su Qingli turned around and saw her brother Su Zhaoming striding towards her. She smiled and made up an excuse to cover up, "Before leaving, the abbot of Lingyan Temple made an appointment with me to visit him today, so I just went to Lingyan Temple to keep the appointment."
Su Zhaoming stood opposite her, his head lowered and scratching, his voice becoming smaller and smaller, "Sister, I have a request."
"We are a family, and we should keep our word. You might as well speak frankly." Su Qingli looked into Su Zhaoming's eyes and guessed that he must need help.
"Sister, I want to borrow some money from my brother-in-law. The money I have is not enough for the tuition of the academy. Can you help me ask?" Su Zhaoming was silent for a while, gritted his teeth and said his request.
"No need to ask your brother-in-law. I have a gold ingot here. It should be enough for your tuition at the academy this semester, right?"
Su Qingli opened the purse. The gold came at the right time and just solved Su Zhaoming's urgent need.
"Sister, where did you get this gold?" Su Zhaoming held the gold, feeling curious about it.
