What if I say, I like you?
Su Qingli was held by him and could not move.
She looked sideways at Fu Xuechen and asked, "Why are you telling me this, Prime Minister?"
Fu Xuechen pursed his lips, holding the beautiful girl in his arms, but he seemed a little unromantic.
His eyes flickered, and when Su Qingli began to struggle again, he blushed and said, "What if I say that I like you?"
"Are you pleased with me?"
Su Qingli stopped struggling, as if she had heard a joke.
"But I have never felt the Prime Minister's love, let alone the Prime Minister's love."
"Compared to your liking, I hope that the Prime Minister will stop disturbing my life."
Fu Xuechen loosened his grip and didn't even notice his black robe slipping off. He suddenly felt that it was ridiculous that he was afraid that she would misunderstand him and couldn't wait to come forward to explain.
His fists clenched in his sleeves, but he didn't touch her again.
Su Qingli breathed a sigh of relief, lowered her eyes and bowed, choking her voice as she said, "Master Prime Minister, our fate has ended. From now on, we will go our separate ways."
Fu Xuechen lowered his head sadly and didn't say another word from beginning to end.
The car curtain was lifted, and Su Qingli paused before getting out of the car. In the end, she didn't look back at him again.
Qian Jue waited outside the carriage until dusk penetrated the curtains, but he did not hear the Prime Minister inside say anything.
An unknown amount of time passed before the night dew wet Qian Jue's shoulders. Suddenly, there was a sound of shattering in the car, and then Fu Xuechen's hoarse voice came from inside.
"Let's go back home."
In the morning mist, Fu Xuechen walked into the Prime Minister's Mansion, his back looking even more lonely than usual.
A disguised woman was standing in the hall, as if she had been waiting for a long time.
Hearing footsteps, she turned around and her eyes fell on Fu Xuechen's bleeding right palm.
Fu Xuechen hid his bloody hand in his sleeve, his eyes like charcoal fire extinguished by rain: "Your Highness, you came to visit so late at night, but has something happened in the palace?"
The eldest princess shifted her gaze to his face, suddenly stepped forward, grabbed his hand hidden in his sleeve, and ordered the servants to bring him medicine.
"Have you run into a wall with Miss Su again?"
Fu Xuechen suddenly retracted his hand, but she held it tightly without any explanation.
The eldest princess's eyes narrowed, anger evident in them.
"Your Highness, please feel free to speak frankly if you have anything to say." Fu Xuechen let her lead the way, but his expression was not very good.
A servant came in with a golden medicine for wounds, and the princess used silver scissors to pick out the porcelain fragment from Fu Xuechen's palm. "There are rumors circulating that you have a hidden illness. My father is furious. Shouldn't you give me an explanation?"
"I will go to the palace to meet the emperor and report the whole story one by one. It will definitely not affect the cooperation with Your Highness." Fu Xuechen said impartially.
The eldest princess dipped her fingertips into the ointment and suddenly increased her strength, pressing hard on his wound.
Fu Xuechen frowned silently and looked down at her movements.
After bandaging the wound, the princess suddenly loosened her grip and stepped back half a step. She turned around and said, "Actually, for people like you and me, love is nothing but a vine that trips us up."
He slowly moved his wrist, his voice hoarse than the gauze wrapped around the wound, "But I am willing to perish forever for her."
The eldest princess turned around, her sleeves bringing up a wisp of cold fragrance, "Is she really that good?"
Fu Xuechen was about to speak when the princess said coldly, "Forget it. I don't want to listen to your love-hate relationship. I hope the Prime Minister can handle the current troubles. I don't have much patience."
"Your Highness, please rest assured. I will definitely explain this matter clearly in front of His Majesty." Fu Xuechen bowed.
…
After Su Qingli finished cooking for her mother, she left the Su residence, but saw Xie Linyuan, whom she had not seen for many days, outside the door.
She stepped forward and asked, "Xie Xiao General, why are you here?"
Xie Linyuan's eyes darkened. "I heard about my uncle's situation, so I wanted to come and see you. Are you doing well these days?"
Because Su Huaihai kept asking for money, his family ordered him not to see Su Qingli.
Now that Su Huaihai is dead, Xie Linyuan naturally no longer cares about the constraints of his family.
Su Qingli curled the corners of her lips, but she was just trying to survive.
Ever since the Marquis's Mansion fell into decline, she, despite her beauty, has lived a life of walking on thin ice and full of hardships.
Her family is the only motivation that keeps her going.
However, she couldn't tell Xie Linyuan these thoughts.
She said a little distantly, "Thank you for your concern, General. I'm fine. Now that I'm married, General, please stay away from me to avoid any gossip."
"Li'er, are you still blaming me?" Xie Linyuan was heartbroken to see her still acting this way. "I've already regretted my actions and have been punished, but you still can't forgive me?"
"Your regrets are meaningless to me." Su Qingli didn't want to say more, and said lightly: "I wish the young general to find a good partner and a bright future."
Fu Xuechen, who was not far away, almost held his breath as he watched the interaction between the two.
It was not until Su Qingli came towards him that he slowly breathed a sigh of relief and his clenched fists relaxed.
Su Qingli was a little surprised to see Tan Xi, whom she hadn't seen for many days, "Mr. Tan."
Fu Xuechen smiled slightly, "Miss Su hasn't played the piano for me for a long time, so I had no choice but to come to find Miss Su in person. I wonder if Miss Su is still willing to play the piano for me?"
Thinking of what happened that day, Su Qingli felt a little embarrassed.
"I thought Mr. Tan was looking for someone else..."
"Miss Su, you're overthinking it. It's just that a friend of mine was hurt by love, and I spent some time with him, so I didn't come to see Miss Su." Fu Xuechen stretched out his hand and made a gesture of invitation to Su Qingli.
After getting on the carriage, both of them were quiet.
Su Qingli noticed that he seemed to be in a bad mood, so she took the initiative to find a topic, "Mr. Tan, is your friend feeling better?"
Fu Xuechen was stunned when he heard this, and his heart ached.
"He... probably won't get better."
Su Qingli comforted him, "My daughter's heart is like spring water, easily melted by true love. If your friend is determined to be with her, you might as well give it a try."
Fu Xuechen's eyes, hidden behind the veil, lit up, and he straightened his back silently.
"Thank you, Miss Su. I will convey your words to my friends."
Su Qingli noticed his right hand bandaged with gauze, "Mr. Tan, how did you get hurt?"
"I was accidentally pricked by a porcelain splinter." Fu Xuechen held out his hand to her and said softly, "The wound seems to be a little inflamed. Miss Su, can you help me re-bandage it?"
Thinking of their inappropriate behavior that day, Su Qingli refused distantly, "When we get to your house, let the servant help you bandage it."
Fu Xuechen slowly withdrew his hand and leaned back against the car wall as if his bones had been pulled out.
He raised his head and closed his eyes, letting the mottled light and shadows pass by outside the car curtain.
Seeing his lonely look, Su Qingli turned her face away. Mr. Tan was so good to her, was she hurting him too much by doing this?
"Mr. Tan, I—"
"It's okay. I didn't think it through." Fu Xuechen sighed, "Miss Su is already married. You and I should keep a good distance."
