Chapter 36 The Queen Mother is Angry

Chapter 36 The Queen Mother is Angry

At this time, there was a sense of impending storm in the Cining Palace, and all the eunuchs and palace maids were kneeling in the hall.

The Queen Mother's anger was like dark clouds before a storm, instantly covering the entire hall. Her face turned from pale to blue, her brows were furrowed, and her eyes flashed with a cold and sharp light that seemed to be able to pierce people's hearts.

"How dare you!" Her voice was like thunder, shaking the candles in the hall slightly. Every word seemed to be squeezed out from between teeth, bringing with it a bone-chilling chill. "How dare you, Zhao, betray me like this!"

"Prime Minister Zhu also knelt in panic, and the Queen Mother asked him to calm down." They also got the news this morning that Zhao had given away 30% of the salt business. What a fool.

The Queen Mother's chest rose and fell violently, her gorgeous phoenix robe trembled slightly with her breathing, and the phoenix crown and pearl curtain on her head swayed gently because of her anger, making slight colliding sounds. Her gaze was as sharp as a knife, sweeping across the eunuchs and palace maids kneeling on the ground. Everyone whose gaze touched could not help but shiver, lowering their heads almost to the ground, not daring to breathe.

"Someone!" She slapped the armrest fiercely, her voice sharp and piercing, "Drag these useless things out and give them fifty strokes of the cane! In the palace, the lives of maids and servants have never been important. Now the Queen Mother is just trying to vent her anger and share her worries. This is also their honor.

The guards outside the hall heard the sound and came in. Their footsteps were heavy and rapid, like the beat of a drum beating in everyone's heart. The eunuchs and palace maids kneeling on the ground were pale and trembling all over, but they dared not utter a word to beg for mercy. They could only allow the guards to drag them out of the palace.

The Queen Mother's anger did not subside. Her eyes were still cold, the corners of her mouth twitched slightly, her hands were clenched into fists, her nails were deeply embedded in her palms, but she seemed to feel no pain. Her voice was low and cold, as if it came from the abyss: Anyone who betrays me will be made to live a life worse than death.

The hall was dead silent, with only the candlelight swaying in the breeze, illuminating the Queen Mother's face which was distorted with anger, making it hard for everyone to breathe.

Prime Minister Zhu carefully observed the Empress Dowager's expression and whispered: I heard that the Emperor has been favoring a eunuch recently?

The queen mother sat back on the phoenix chair, her fingers gently stroking the edge of the teacup, her eyes deep and cold. She looked through the carved window lattice at the magnificent palace in the distance. That was the emperor's bedroom. She snorted coldly, "It's not presentable."

"Someone come here." Her voice was low and majestic.

A eunuch dressed in black knelt silently in front of her, his head lowered almost to the ground, and his voice was as thin as a mosquito: "Your Majesty, I am here."

The Queen Mother's fingers tapped lightly on the teacup, making a slight "ding-ding" sound. She still looked into the distance, her tone calm but with unquestionable determination: "The emperor has been overworked recently and is weak. It's time to take some supplements. Go to the Imperial Hospital and find Doctor Zhang. Ask him to prescribe a tranquilizing soup and be sure to deliver it to the emperor personally."

The eunuch's body trembled slightly, and he lowered his head even more, his voice almost inaudible: "I understand."

The Queen Mother slowly withdrew her gaze and looked down at the teacup in her hand. The clear tea reflected her stern face. Her voice was as light as a whisper, but every word was as sharp as a knife: "Remember, if even the slightest word of this leaks out, you know the consequences."

The eunuch's forehead was covered with cold sweat and he kowtowed quickly: "I dare not, I will definitely get it done."

The Queen Mother waved her hand, and the eunuchs quickly retreated as if they had been pardoned. Silence returned to the hall, with only the candlelight swaying gently in the breeze.

"Your Majesty, please don't blame me for being cruel." She murmured in a low voice. You have been just a puppet from the beginning to the end. When a prince is born, I can support you to ascend the throne, or I can replace you in the same way.
