Extra: Wedding
As the morning light started to shine, Lu An heard Eunuch De calling him to get up. He was so sleepy that his eyelids were drooping. He had not slept well last night because he was too nervous, but he couldn't sleep in today.
Lu An lay on the bed and patted his face, trying to wake himself up, but in the end he failed to get up and collapsed on the bed again. He reached out and touched Pei Yan's position, and the quilt was already cold.
Seeing that Lu An failed to get up, Eunuch De asked the maids to pull him out of bed, "Oh, today is a happy day, you can't sleep in! The emperor is still waiting for you."
Just as Lu An was about to resist, he was pressed in front of the dressing table to comb his hair and change clothes. Eunuch De came over and said, "This is the dress specially arranged by the emperor. Do you like it?"
Lu An took a look at the dress, a dark blue gown with gold weaving. It was supposed to be the queen's red shirt, but Pei Yan specially ordered it to be changed to the prince's style. Nine phoenixes of different shapes holding sesame seeds were embroidered with peacock feathers, and the phoenix eyes were all dotted with cat's eye stones.
On the seven-ring belt where the jade pendant should have been hung, there was now a bronze dagger that Pei Yan had used when he was a teenager.
Eunuch De: "The Emperor said that his beloved should wear a sword instead of a pendant."
Lu An didn't understand, "What does this mean?"
Eunuch De cried out, "Ouch!" He didn't expect Lu An to be so stupid. If he hadn't said it today, Lu An probably wouldn't have known it in his life. "The emperor meant that he would allow you to have the same power as the emperor! And the color system of etiquette has been broken. The color that should have been red was changed to blue. The emperor is really crazy about you!"
Lu An looked at the suit in shock. He didn't see his wedding suit because Pei Yan didn't show it to him. He just measured his body, so he didn't see it until today.
"Pei Yan actually...actually..."
Just as Lu An was about to stand up to look at the dress, the hairdressing nanny smiled and held his shoulder, "Don't move yet, you can look at it after you put it on."
After hearing this, Lu An sat down obediently, but his eyes were still secretly looking at the dress. The nanny put a golden crown in Lu An's hair and said, "Today is a big day for you and His Majesty, you have to dress up."
Lu An looked at himself in the bronze mirror, feeling a little unreal. He reached out and touched his cheek, thinking: Am I really going to marry Pei Yan?
Marry Pei Yan, who had a cold face when they first met but indulged in all his willfulness.
"What are you laughing at, sir?" the maid asked curiously.
Lu An pursed his lips and shook his head, but the tips of his ears turned red.
At noon, bells and drums rang in the palace.
Lu An walked along the red carpet towards the main hall, his heart beating like a drum. Through the beaded curtain, he saw Pei Yan wearing a dark blue robe with twelve chapter patterns embroidered on it, a Tongtian crown on his head with twenty-four white jade tassels on it. He was standing on a high step with picturesque eyebrows and eyes, looking at him intently.
All the officials stood on both sides, watching their emperor slowly walk down from the high steps, take Lu An's hand, and then step by step onto the jade steps covered with golden nanmu wood chips.
The Minister of Rites' hands were shaking as he held the rosewood box - the text inside was actually written in gold powder mixed with cinnabar, and was not at all the gilded green jade required by ancestral rules.
"The Emperor, in compliance with the Will of Heaven, proclaims:" Pei Yan's voice resounded through the hallway, "Your son, Lu's son, is gentle and kind by nature, and has a virtuous character... He is now appointed as the Phoenix Lord, in charge of the affairs of the six palaces."
The whole court was in uproar. According to convention, a male queen should be addressed as "Jun" without the word "Hou". However, this imperial edict directly equated the powers of "Feng Jun" with those of "Empress".
The ceremonial officer sang loudly: "Bow to Heaven and Earth——"
They knelt side by side, Lu An quietly turned his head and met Pei Yan's gaze. The other party raised the corner of his lips slightly, and his fingertips, hidden by his wide sleeves, gently hooked his palm.
Lu An quickly lowered his head, but he couldn't hide the joy in his eyes.
At the evening banquet, all the civil and military officials toasted to celebrate. Lu An sat next to Pei Yan and was forced to drink several glasses of wine. His cheeks were slightly red. Pei Yan saw this and raised his hand to block another wave of toasts: "He can't drink much, I will drink for him."
Mo Yuan and the others laughed. Lu An kicked the tip of Pei Yan's boot under the table and whispered, "Who wants you to take my place? I can drink."
Pei Yan raised his eyebrows but did not refute. He just replaced the wine in his glass with sweet soup while no one was paying attention.
It's late at night and the red candles are burning.
Lu An sat on the edge of the bed, his golden crown removed, his black hair draped over his shoulders. Pei Yan pushed the door open and came in, smelling faintly of alcohol. He squatted in front of him and took off his brocade boots for him.
"Are you tired?" Pei Yan asked.
Lu An shook his head, but couldn't help yawning.
Pei Yan chuckled and held him in his arms: "Go to sleep."
Lu An leaned on his shoulder, thinking dazedly -
From now on, every day will be like this.
In the spring of the first year of Fengyi, the emperor ordered the empress's Zhaiyi to be changed to dark blue. The Ministry of Rites wept and remonstrated for three days. The emperor threw his inkstone and said, "My heart is also blue."
